People enjoying the Lanzada Beach, Pontevedra, Spain.
This doesn't really have a witty story behind it. But I like the picture. It kind of reminds me of Martin Parr's style - satirically journalistic anthropologistic images of aspects of everyday ordinary life of retrospective social England. Except this was shot at Lanzada Beach, a tourist site in Galicia off a few miles away from Santiago de Compostela. Quite frankly, I find Parr's images quite boring. Does it mean that I find my image equally boring? At this point, I don't really have much of an opinion. Maybe deep inside I think it is because I have procrastinated sharing it. I see the fat lady with too much sunscreen cream on her back, the hot chick beside her - applying some faux cream on her arms, the lazy people in the background - they look like miniature toys. The whole thing looks surreal. That's because I really want it to. What else can it be? Unexceptional for sure. Ordinary. Maybe if I included the topless woman sitting next to a man at the lower left hand corner of the photo. Oh but I have to blur out the topless lady because my art is rated PG. She is there though - I can assure you. In fact, there were some more topless women at the beach so it was a challenge not to include them in my frame.

Yea, I know the song has nothing to do with the image but I hear the music in my head whenever I think about it. Maybe it was playing somewhere when I was there. All I remember was getting excited chasing this shoot. So excited that my hands shook as I pressed the shutter release. Damn that long black I just had. With all the jagged light and blurs, I think I just created art.

The iconic photo behind the two cameras was shot by Bill Beall as he chanced upon Officer Maurice Cullinane gently coaxing two-year old Allen Weaver back to the Curb. The photo won a Pulitzer award. And how could it not? Entitled Busted, the photo is a classic street shot. Unsuspecting protagonists caught at the decisive moment by the photographer.
I decided to use Beall's photo as a background for my Mamiya-6 as the camera came out about the same time as when Beall took his photo. Around late 1950s. The Mamiya-6 (note the hyphen) is different from the more famous plastic-bodied Mamiya Six, which came out in the 1990s. The former is a classic folding camera, which has long been forgotten. The latter is still used around. Actually the Mamiya-6 series debuted in the 1940s. My Mamiya-6 is the last version.
It is curious why Mamiya decided to resurrect the model name fifty years later. Perhaps, a period of fifty years is too long for one to remember the classic folding camera. I'm glad I have one. In my fantasy, I dream of having two. Thanks to the magic of Photoshop. Besides, one cannot have too many cameras, right?

A half day at spent with a sea facing window at Marine Drive can be fruitful.
It was easily the most intense process I've ever experienced shooting panos, but I think I am finally getting it right and improving here.

**Update 17-03-12** This image became the top voted post on reddit's "What's Hot?" India page, and holds that position as of this moment.
Secondly, the misaligned last image on the left...that was an error I couldn't correct; subsequent uploads will be with the corrected image.
**Update 19-03-12** Reached 2000+ views on Flickr, a first for me.
**Update 11-04-12** Went viral again on Facebook, through hundreds of third party shares. As of this moment it has been shared more than 2500 times.

Gerard was vandaag weer druk bezig op de zandmotor. Maar ik kwam voor het resultaat waar hij gisteren op de Zandmotor waar hij gisteren druk mee bezig was. Misschien moet ik morgen weer even gaan kijken.
Ik heb hem hier al vaker bezig gezien. Ik vind het mooi hoe iemand zijn vergankelijke sporen achterlaat op dit mooie stuk strand. Hij is niet de enige.
Als alle lijnen zijn getrokken gaat hij met een drone van bovenaf fotograferen en filmen.

I was fortunate to get this shot. Taken on available light outdoor with a vintage Zeiss Ikon Nettar (circa 1949) using Kodak TMAX 400. The popup viewfinder is pretty much useless when it comes to focusing. One just have to guess how far to focus. I figured about four and half feet. The view finder only serves as a guide in framing one's composition. I didn't even meter this and just went for broke. Except for this exposure, everything I shot on the film roll was botched. I developed the film using generic solutions, and scanned the negative. The scanned image was processed in PS for dodging and burning, and darkening the background. I know the image is not comparable to Irving Penn but I am quite proud of this shot.

I like taking candid photos of people but once in a while a subject will make eye contact that can enrich the overall image. She was busy at work and realized that I was about to take her picture so she gave me a nice smile. Then she quickly gave me her business card indicating that she also does windows, plumbing and federal income tax returns. Who would have known that?
