Night is Paper is a cinepoetic collaboration with novelist Dr Thom Conroy. The artistic process began with a series of images generated in Midjourney. The images prompted a sequence of text-based fragments which combine to evoke a sense of eves-dropping into a shadowy, indistinct world where nothing can be fully understood. A mix of found sounds and electroacoustic music from the Free Music Archive build upon this mood of unexplained mystery.

The sequence was captured at lake Tyin in Jotunheimen
I was in my blind, photographing ducks, when an early spring rain and sleet squall moved in. My location was adjacent to a farm in overgrown bottomland. Over two dozen cardinals came in once the storm started.
Clear skies over the eastern horizon required me to look west where mid-level clouds developed a nice fire sky. GoPro 10 in time lapse mode captured 1 frame per second and was played back at 4x to 8x in this clip.

Taken today in Fernworthy Forest, Dartmoor. A bit of a depressing contrast between two ends of the forest. I recorded the music a few weeks back.
Citizen scientists are vital in STEVE research because by experimenting with different exposures and angles, they can capture revealing images of the phenomenon that scientists do not. These images of STEVE were taken by citizen scientist and co-author on the paper, Neil Zeller.
