Remove this part to allow removal of heater core. First unplug vacuum line connector and 2 self-tapping screws with 8mm heads.

The foot is secured by the four screws on the bottom. You can unplug the foot from the flash body by that white connector that's completely out of focus, so you can work on the foot separately like this.
There are only two connections, so it's kind of hard to screw it up. Red is signal (center pin), black is ground (side connection for rails). I stuck to the same color coding scheme.
The big tab of the jack goes to the tip of the plug, and that needs to be the sync signal. The base of the jack/plug goes to ground. Just check which tab matches which part of the plug.
disclaimer: Go through the 580EX sync port mod thread on POTN for more detailed advice and instructions. It's what I did. Obviously, you need some basic grounding in electronics and you're going to void your warranty, and when working on flashes, you can zap yourself good if you don't know how to recognize or discharge capacitors.

Monitor half, the part where things get tricky.
When removing the monitor from the control panel half I was not aware of how everything fit together. It came as a surprise when I finally pried the two halves apart only to have the monitor slam onto the floor. No harm came from the few inch fall, but in the future I'm going to a few supports under the monitor half so that it does not fall when coming apart, it will also be easier to pull apart.
The monitor's components all sit on a board which is support by the support frame, but when detached from the control panel the support frame is gone. To support the component board I fit a piece of wood inside the cabinet under the component board so it wouldn't fall out while we moved it around.
To transport it we carried it by the two beams sticking out from just below the screen itself and the bar in the back of the screen. We laid it on it's back in a truck and drove it across town where we unloaded it the same way we got it in. I wouldn't recommend transporting this on it's back, but since we didn't have far to go it didn't hurt it. Minus the potentiometer getting knocked off of the size board.
The vertical and horizontal adjustment board is on the right side of the monitor, against the side of the case. Removing the board is easy and requires no tools. Just unplug the two connections to the board and unsnap it from its seating. Transporting it separately will keep your monitor adjustment pots undamaged during the move. Everything else in was much more sturdy and made the trip without issue.

Having your own tools is the key to many a successful set adventure. Every shot has it's own unique challenges that require there own creative solutions. Almost every shoot I've been on requires some kind of arts and crafts project from tricky lighting flags to fancy armatures that hold tracking markers at just the right place. You can't always count on your grip brothers to lend you there Leatherman so best be bringing you own.

"I will leave the car at home more," says the deliriously-happy woman on the right.
Unsurprisingly, this greenwash campaign is courtesy of an oil company. The only way to be happy is to continue driving. Just not "more" ... whatever that means.
(Tip to cheer up the woman in the middle: Power strips and surge protectors are an easier way to keep appliances from sucking up your electricity. Plus, you're so very radiant, so maybe you could convince the oil company to stop wasting electricity lighting up your face in bus shelters all night.)
Update: The angry but radiant woman in the middle has altered her resolve. In more recent ads she is vowing to get a programmable thermostat.
