Turbo is the guy on the right, part-time resident of Slab City, California and apparant curator of the East Jesus Sculpture Garden, a random outdoor gallery consisting of exhibits made from junk and garbage. He admits to vacating in the unbearably hot summer months when temperatures can reach as high as 50 plus celcius (I've been there then, it's feckin' hot)
Slab City is billed as the last Free city in America with a mix of weird, wonderful, creative, wacky, intelligent and insane individuals all living Off Grid. This is no Disneyland. This is real-life America, an hour from Palm Springs, on the Shores of The Salton Sea LA USA !
Turbo Jonez brings you the history of 80’s rap and breakdance. It’s a visual drive-by shooting. It’s an aural bus ride through the linoleum streets of Cardiff. It is the one, the only, Turbo Jonez.
Funded by the arts council in 2007, Turbo blew it all on a ghetto and some well bad Nike trainers with his name on them. With just a fiver left, he bought a knock off PA and got his mate Dai to paint a wicked graffiti across some plyboard he found on a building site late at night.
What you get is a 1000 watt, aerosolic homage to Grandmaster Flash, The Rock Steady Crem, Rick Astley, MC Hammer and Run DMC.
It’s mad, it’s loud and some are saying it’s the funniest thing to hit the street since Rod Hull and Emu. They also say if you remember the 60’s you weren’t there. Well, if you remember the 80’s….
We’re really sorry.
For Rhyll.

Drove this 1984 full option 900 Turbo in 2004 while in the USA (Bay Area, California). In the USA the turbo sedans came with US Turbo wheels and without boot and front spoiler. This one was full option equipped, with burgundy buffalo leather seats, AC, electrical windows and sunroof.
I met a few times with the local Bay Area Saab community and frequented the local pick 'n pull junkyards in search of upgrades: replaced the defunct front fog lights, mounted a turbo front spoiler and found fitting rear seat headrests. It was a fun time.
Drove it around the southwest: California, Nevada, Arizona, and to the north, Washington state.
