There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.
One, to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.
The other, to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days, staring at the shine
quietly.
Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.
I face myself to change tomorrow, a vague day into something certain.
That is the meaning of a rebirth.
I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.
After she left, I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After
she left, how many times did I depend too much on her, doubt her, envy her and keep on telling lies
until I realized it is love?
I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the
daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.
I had been thinking about such a thing.
However, I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see
something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me, a guy filled with ambiguous, unstable
tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.
Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

This set of photos shows the finally days of the United Automobile Services operations in the most rural parts of the Yorkshire Dales in Wensleydale and Coverdale. Not long after, the new broom of Arriva vacated the area having served it for over 70 years, and then a few years later, closed Richmond depot outright so that their presence is reduced to one trunk route. I think these photos were taken c.Aug 1998 judging by the vegetation; have only just rediscovered these after 21 years!
These timetable cases were once commonplace in major villages and towns. Most disappeared in the 1970s seemingly but some did survive. The ones in Hawes and Leyburn, where this one resided, were late survivors. This was still there in 1998 but soon went - who knows who acquired this and how?
I literally threw a bunch of timetables from my collection onto the scanner so I could make an illustration for an article I wrote for Railfan & Railroad's web site: www.railfan.com/extraboard/rf_extra_may2013.php
Seaford & District asked if they could use my photos on their new timetable leaflets. They chose this photo of their open topper at Beachy Head.

First West of England WsM based 35154 SN65 OKF is seen leaving Weston Interchange on a 7B towards Bleadon. The 7 allocation was split between the 7,7H and 7B this TT change with both the 7H and 7B being hourly and the 7 dropping to every 30, providing a more frequent service in the core Coronation - Weston section.
The interesting thing here is that the services to the new campus work on a circular basis. 18 and 19 going in via Cotton End at West Cotton Close and returning from Bedford Rd via Derngate and the infrequent 20 the other way round.
MacBrayne's was a shipping, bus and road haulage company which served the west coast of Scotland and its islands.
It was jointly owned in 1950 by British Railways (the UK state rail company) and private shipping company Coast Lines (taken over by P&O in 1970).
In 1969, MacBrayne's was transferred to the state owned Scottish Transport Group and in 1973, its shipping operations were merged with the Caledonian Steam Packet Company (wholly owned by BR to serve the Firth of Clyde and also transferred to the STG in 1969) to form Caledonian MacBrayne which still serves the islands of the west coast of Scotland to this day under state ownership. (The bus and road haulage operations of MacBrayne's were privatised under different names in the 80s.)
This is the cover of MacBrayne's 1950 summer brochure for their passenger shipping services. It depicts images of Staffa (top left), Iona (top right) and the Spanish Armada galleon sunk in Tobermory. The red funnel is that of the steamer King George V which served all these locations on a pleasure cruise in summer from Oban 1936-74.

That's right, the total weight of all of Metro's bus schedules bunched together is a hefty 960 grams (2.1 lb). I'm missing schedules for the 8 and 49. Thank goodness for mybus.org. All they need is easy access to schedules and route maps for mobile devices with tiny screens, and I can say goodbye to paper schedules. I'll still have the urge to pick up a schedule to study while I ride the bus to pass the time.

First West of England WsM based 30013 YK25 OJC is seen parked at WsM interchange working the 3 times a day X1S via Long Ashton, a route running from Weston twice and Bristol once.
'SHMD' was short for 'Stalybridge, Hyde, Mossley and Dukinfield Joint Transport and Electricity Board'! Its green trams and buses served the towns in its name, and villages up into the Pennines. Until 1936 SHMD had a taste for Thorneycroft buses and one is represented on the front cover of this 1930 timetable. Just as interesting is the list of joint operators with whom SHMD co-operated - this was the era of the 'express bus', put in place by Manchester Corporation Tramways and its partners to combat the 'pirate bus' companies that were springing up and taking custom away from the trams.

'The Clock' was a long running publication detailing Helensburgh area timetables for bus, train and steamer services which was published by the local compnay of Macneur & Bryden. This example from June 1953 is the earliest example I have acquired and details the bus services of Garelochhead Coach Services Ltd, Central SMT and the Glasgow to Oban service of Alexander's. It also contains an advert for Cameron's Motor Tours, another Helensburgh operator who operated 'Daily Tours by Luxury Coaches to the Scottish Highlands'. Cameron's would be acquired by CGS in 1955. Of note is the Helensburgh local service of Alexander Ironside was not included, this would pass to GCS in the early part of 1954.
