Those of you who know your hand tools will know that this plane is not a high end tool of a greater significance. But if you look closely you might find something interesting. This Millers Falls made and Mohawk Shelburne branded secondary line hand plane has some very useful features. It features a solid body, an equally solid frog and good strong handles, all of which very typical to the MF hand planes. In addition this plane has been fitted with a engine which makes this hand plane my currently best user.

I had been toying with the idea of fitting one of my vintage cutter into a metal plane but never felt like pointing a file to the mouth of a vintage hand plane with a market value. So when I found this M-S hand plane I felt this was the perfect candidate.

The mouth has been opened three-four millimeters, the frog has moved just a tad back, which allows the cutting edge to pass the mouth opening. The thickness of the blade means that the depth adjusting fork struggles to make full contact with the cutter. The lateral adjustment can also be a little tricky as the slot in the cutter is slightly wider than that of the standard M-S cutter. But both problems can be overcome.

In practical use, this plane has become my favourite user. The feel and effect of this almost entirely unfettled hand plane is so smooth with no vibrations and a silky smooth surface on the workpiece. Recently I used this plane on end grain as well as the results were astonishing. No chatter, a silky smooth texture on the end grain and minimal tear out on the corners.

Now getting back to the idea of fitting vintage cutters to metal planes. In theory this is a very good idea, but before you start abusing the mouth of your favourite vintage hand plane, you need to check all the facts.

Vintage cutters are very different, the slots in the iron are of different width and depth. Some might not be too thick to accept the screw of a modern chipbreaker. Some cutters have to have their slots widened before they can pass the frog screw. I tried to fit two other vintage cutters to this plane and although I can get a Berg cutter seated as well, the upper thickness of it will mean that my depth adjustment has to be done with a hammer. Personally I would only widen the mouth of a plane that I know will stay in my possession or can be sold with the cutter.

Those of you who have looked through some of my other images will know that I'm not much given to filters, vignettes, textures, screens, and other things of that sort. In this image , though, it seems to fit... and what's the point of being creative if you don't try coloring outside the lines now and then?

Constructive commentary most appreciated.

Those christmasy/new year decorations always remind me of winter and snow :)

Those are double triple stitches.

Another view of the yard and garden featuring me and (I think) my Aunty Doris. The presence of a pram confuses me as I don't look very old, so I will guess a date of 1959/60. You can see building all around, I guess those on the right are probably in Wolverhampton Street but I'm not sure.

For those of you who care...eh who am I kidding?...I'm the only one who cares...Harry Potter will still be at the Garland for a few weeks. Yay!

This one is for the peeps who thought I didn't leave much details in some of my snaps or my models looks weird and scary !

Enjoy.

If you've been to London, you've sat on one of these seats. Beautifully sprung, like all train seats of that era, and upholstered in a style which can only reasonably be labelled 'Post-Modern Christmas Wrap', worn well by a buttock or two, a shoe or two.

The orange, the beige, the wooden floors...ah, how I love thee, old London Tube.

Seen here at Temple station.

went to the Empire State Mine for a stroll on Saturday by myself....lot's to see

here's a little bit of history-I will have more images to share later

Empire Mine State Historic Park is the site of one of the oldest, largest, deepest, longest and richest gold mines in California. The park is in Grass Valley at 10791 East Empire Street. In existence for more than 100 years, the mine produced 5.6 million ounces of gold before it closed in 1956. (5.6 million ounces of gold is equivalent to a box seven feet long, seven feet high, and seven feet deep filled with gold.) The park contains many of the mine’s buildings, the owner’s home and restored gardens, as well as the entrance to 367 miles (the distance, as the crow flies, from Grass Valley to Magic Mountain) of abandoned and flooded mine shafts. The park consists of forested backcountry and eight miles of trails - including easy hikes (for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding) - in the park.

Those big tubs cement is delivered in.

This was one of those unexpected kind of shots today that first grabbed my attention, secondly made me laugh then finally made me spin my car around, ask the kid if he was ok with me taking his photo then get the shot quick!

I'd been out for a run and got caught in torrential rain myself but managed to switch into a relatively dry t-shirt to drive home again. As I was heading back to the Headland I saw this kid who had wrapped himself and his bike up in plastic sheeting to try and shelter from the rain and it instantly reminded me of the famous bike scene from ET with his head popping out from under the cover!

It was literally chucking it down and I knew I was going to get soaked again but I couldn't miss a photo like this. The boy informed me he was from the carnival but his caravan hadn't arrived yet so he was on his way to his Aunt's house to shelter from the storm, poor guy was drenched!

London loop is a 150mile walk around London tfl.gov.uk/modes/walking/loop-walk

This was a throw away shot I took of my daughter while experimenting with my 50mm lens in low light. After looking through the shots I took, I wound up really liking her look here.

It took a lot of work to conceal the shadows that were on her face, hence the sorta high key look...

This was so amazing... a huge maple tree in a neighbor's yard was topped off at about 8-10 feet due to electric wires overhead, leaving it to branch out heavily below that. This Red Breasted Sapsucker ( I think?) has a little flock of babies in this tiny hole, and for some of the shots I was standing only about 6 feet away, holding my camera ready and focused for the 2-4 minutes it took between runs for the birds to take turns bringing food to the babies. I was not able yet to get shots of the babies inside the dark hole... altho I could see their little wide open beaks and hear their constant crying... I laughed thinking of how desperate that constant crying would make me feel as a mother!!!

I am glad you all enjoyed those filly shots as much as I have... she was so adorable! There will be more shots of her later...

also, for those who commented on my dedication to my sis, thank you so much... and there is a photo of my daughter, my sis and myself from last year that I moved forward beside the flower dedication Dahlia...however it is friends and family only, sorry!

I also left comments for everyone who commented on the skunk shot, if you want to go see!

Yeah, those crazy cats again, but I bet you haven't seen these pictures still. These funny animals continue to be the great inspiration for lots of the pictures and sayings, since they're totally natural, and so their behavior and reactions, though innate to people to, amaze us with the spontaneity. Beside, since you are entertaining your cat, it's time for them to return the favor. Now, you have exactly three minutes to look at these pictures - the cats say.
