My partner recently told me that he thought it was so cool when he met me when we were teenagers that I had a copy of Palace Music's Arise Therefore. Nearly 28 years later, we're still together. Music is magic!

Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance. O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee ...

Grandpa had no sons, therefore when his daughter married and she took on the name of her husband, Grandpa's name will fade with the memory of him after his life. These are the things he was reflecting on as he watched his precious granddaughter play.
Over a year ago, 49 gallery cars from Caltrain were sent out of the loud and bustling cities of the Bay Area to their temporary retirement home in the small settlement of Schellville. Over this year, these cars would unfortunately see lots of vandalism as a buyer out of Lima, Peru was deciding if they should purchase this newly retired equipment. Finally, the decision was made, but it would be awhile before the move would take place.
Preparations for the move included many parties and lots of work to fix up the equipment. While these gallery cars were stored in Schellville, there were more cars and plenty of F40PH locomotives stored near Caltrain's shops in San Jose. Weeks in advance, it was found that a lot of work needed to be done in Schellville to clean the cars and fix them as most of the cars would be bad ordered from vandals and the lack of any maintenance or use. This made the cars not fit to be moved until these problems were sorted out. After two weeks of Caltrain, UP, and the buyer fixing up the cars, they were ready to go. Now the move needed to be put in action, but SMART, the owners of Northwestern Pacific, weren't sure if the cars would be ready by the scheduled move date of June 9th. As this photo proves however, this actually did happen and at 09:00 a crew was called.
Now that the move was ready to take place, probably a dozen or more crew members and security showed up at the little yard office in Schellville to get the show on the road. A handful of railfans of course would also be lurking to see this historic move as 40 years of California railroad history was to be sent off to the ports and shipped away. At around noon, the sound of a Nathan P3 and the roar of an EMD 645 interrupted the small town's peace, the train was on the move. The train slowly crawled out of town, but after the train was out of town the small MP15DC brought the train up to a good speed. The train rocked on the old and beat up jointed rail, and made it within an hour to Lombard, where the NWP would hand it off to the California Northern. Although the plan was to get it out to the Union Pacific that day, the CFNR did not have the available power to get it over "The Hill," and would therefore have to wait until the following morning.
This morning, UP 7319 would be hooked up to the set at Napa Junction before heading to the interchange in Suisun City. After getting to Cordelia, the train would be blocked by the Hill Job and then be held up by a malfunctioning crossing. By noon the train would be at the interchange where they would wait for a UP crew to show up. At the same time, the equipment in Santa Clara is also supposed to be headed out, with both trains bound for the Port of Stockton where the equipment will be loaded onto boats.
In this picture, Northwestern Pacific 1501 brings a string of gallery cars through Brazos as the train is about to cross one of NWP's handful of drawbridges. On the other side of the bridge is where NWP will drop the cars for California Northern to take. It is likely this motor has done moves like this many times as 1501 was built as SP 2694. Under SP this unit was based out of the Bay Area until UP took over in 1996, sending it out to places such as Fort Worth and Kansas City. Eventually, UP would retire this unit and GMTX got a hold of it. NWP would end up getting this motor delivered to them, almost original to the as built look, in 2016. Since then it's been hauling freight and odd moves like this near its home territory.

Rio di San Mauro a canal in Burano an island in the Venetian Lagoon, north of Venice, Italy.
Like Venice itself Burano is an archipelago of four islands linked by bridges. It is situated near Torcello at the northern end of the Lagoon and is known for its lace work and brightly coloured homes. The primary economy today is tourism as visitors arrive for sightseeing and to purchase lace goods.
The island was probably settled by the Romans, and in the 6th century was occupied by people from Altino, who named it for one of the gates of their former city. Two stories are attributed to how the city obtained its name. One is that it was initially founded by the Buriana family, and another is that the first settlers of Burano came from the small island of Buranello, about 8 kilometres (5 miles) to the south.
Although the island soon became a thriving settlement, it was administered from Torcello and had none of the privileges of that island or of Murano. It rose in importance only in the 16th century, when women on the island began making lace with needles, being introduced to such a trade via Venetian-ruled Cyprus. When Leonardo da Vinci visited in 1481, he visited the small town of Lefkara and purchased a cloth for the main altar of the Duomo di Milano.
The lace was soon exported across Europe, but trade began to decline in the 18th century and the industry did not revive until 1872, when a school of lacemaking was opened. Lacemaking on the island boomed again, but few now make lace in the traditional manner as it is extremely time-consuming and therefore expensive.
Burano is also known for its small, brightly painted houses, which are popular with artists. The colours of the houses follow a specific system, originating from the golden age of its development. If someone wishes to paint their home, they must send a request to the government, who will respond by making notice of the certain colours permitted for that lot.
Other attractions include the Church of San Martino, with a leaning campanile and a painting by Giambattista Tiepolo, the Oratorio di Santa Barbara and the Museum and School of Lacemaking.

At El Queremal, Valle de Cauca, Colombia.
The Toucan Barbet (Semnornis ramphastinus) is native to the humid forests of the Pacific Andean slopes of northwest Ecuador to southwest Colombia, at altitudes of 1,200-2,400 m (4,000-7,900 ft). This image was taken at 1270 meters or 4167 feet above sea level. The Toucan Barbet is a medium-sized bird, 19 to 21 cm (7.5-8.3 in) long,
Barbets belong to the order Piciformes and are therefore closely related to woodpeckers and toucans,

Lately, I have been studying a great deal about Light. Rather, it might be better said that I have been watching YouTube videos a good deal and listening to scientists talk about their current understanding of light. When talking about it in seminars, I put a great deal of emphasis on the 3 major properties. Direction, temperature, and quality. In addition, I enjoy how this shot works although there are no leading lines, or rule of thirds. Stepping outside the guidelines many suggest, takes on its own enjoyment
In this image, the light is touching the top of the hill, while delivering less to the lower area. Thanks in part to the ever moving clouds, the changing landscape seems to also change its mood and therefore, its message. Personally, I find it all to be most amazing. Capturing a moment is as exciting now as it was when I first picked up a camera, exactly 50 years ago.

Once again to painting from the palette:
The 5 starting colors - blue-yellow-red-white-black are applied to the painting ground as a mushy colored spot. Out of them arises the picture. Therefore, you can still see the remains of the palette below and should notice that the picture was painstakingly painted.
50 Jahre nach den Autofotos, komme ich endlich dazu, Bilder davon zu malen und endlich die alten Autos etwas wachzuküssen.
Ich möchte auch endlich wissen, wie die Malereien zu den Fotos aussehen könnten.
50 years after the car photos, I finally get to paint pictures of it and finally wake up the old cars a bit.
I want to know, what the paintings for the photos might look like.
KEMBACK AULD KIRK
This church was built in 1582 and was therefore one of the first post-Reformation churches to be built in Scotland. It was intended to replace an earlier place of worship, a rectory founded by Bishop de Bernham in 1244 and situated in the grounds of Kemback House (site 10518). Kemback Old Church is in a graveyard to the southwest of the current parish church, on a plateau above Ceres Burn. It is enclosed within a low coped wall. The church was built on an asymmetrical 'T' plan with an off-centre north aisle, which is no longer upstanding. It is gable ended and now roofless, although the west gable retains its full height. It was replaced by a new church in 1814.
the church walls are of sandstone rubble, with dressed quoins and window margins.
The traditional medieval east-west plan of the church is reversed and east is no longer the principal elevation. The east gable does not survive. The remaining east wall appears to have had two windows the most northerly of which probably dates to c.1760, and is rectangular and truncated at the head. To the south of this is a blocked rectangular opening in an in-filled segmental arch, visible on the interior of the church. There is a cavetto moulded skewputt on the northeast corner of the face, from which would have sprung the crowstepped gable. A low walled burial enclosure extends eastwards from the foot of the wall, which makes the church appear more elongated than it actually was.
In the south elevation of the church is a series of intermittent square headed openings. The most easterly of the windows is square and appears to have originally had a segmental head. The next most westerly window is rectangular and is also inserted in place of a segmental arch. The size of this opening on the interior of the church is larger than on the exterior, but it has been partially blocked up, probably during the renovations of 1760. To the west of this is an eighteenth century square headed door capped by a lintel. Steps lead into the church through the door, which has a segmental head on the interior. To the west of this is a large rectangular window which also appears to date to c.1760. As with the window which flanks the door to the east, this opening appears to have been larger on the interior. This may indicate the former presence of a broad sill or deeply sloping recess for the window, rather than an enlarged opening, as there is no evidence of a larger window having existed on the exterior.

16 KNOW that a man is NOT justified by observing the law, but by FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be JUSTIFIED BY FAITH in CHRIST and NOT by observing the law, BECAUSE BY OBSERVING THE LAW NO ONE WILL BE JUSTIFIED. (Galatians 2:16)
1. Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2. BY THIS GOSPEL YOU ARE SAVED, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
3. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4. that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5. and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. 6. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8. and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.
9. For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them--yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me. 11. Whether, then, it was I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed. (1 Corinthians 15:1-11)
7. Therefore Jesus said again, "I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. 8. All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9. I am the gate; whoever enters through me WILL BE SAVED. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10. The thief comes only to STEAL and KILL and DESTROY; I have come that they may have LIFE, and have it to the FULL. (John 10:7-10)
Jesus came to bring spiritual LIFE to the spiritually dead and set the captives FREE! FREE from RELIGION, ERROR and outright LIES, so WE might serve THE LIVING GOD! In SPIRIT and in TRUTH!
So you'll KNOW, and not think you're to bad for God to love. The Christian LIFE isn't about how good WE are, because NONE of us are! It's about how GOOD JESUS IS! Because JESUS LOVES US, so much he died in our place and took the punishment for all of our sins on himself. The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus died that death for YOU and I. The good news is there no more punishment for sin left, we were and are all born forgive as a result of the crucifixion of God himself on the cross that took away the sins of the whole world. All we have to do is believe it, and put your Faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. That my friends is REAL UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! YOU ARE LOVED. ❤️ ✝️ ❤️

Line info: this line connects Krefeld to Neuss and will therefore accommodate numerous cargo trains driving within/to/from the Ruhr area. Don't be fooled, however: traffic is high at times, but can also be very low, so a bit of luck is required!
Location info : Good spot in the start of the afternoon for trains towards Neuss, can be done without a ladder or pole but will be better with.
At Kirkmadrine chapel
The eight Kirkmadrine Stones include three of the oldest Christian memorials in Scotland, dating to the 500s AD. The remaining memorials date from the 700s to 1100s AD, and demonstrate the growth of the Scottish church in this time.
They confirm the existence of an early Christian church at Kirkmadrine, and play a pivotal role in our understanding of northern Britain after occupation by Imperial Rome in the early first century AD.
The stones are behind reflective glass, and are therefore difficult to photograph.

While planning my recent trip to 5 National Parks in the American Southwest, I had visions of finding never before seen vistas, and making magical photos of said places. This probably sounds slightly delusional, but maybe slightly familiar at the same time. As photographers, we can't really help but to dream big.
The reality though, is very different. As big as these parks are, I doubt that there are any parts that haven't been photographed hundreds of times by both amateur and professional photographers alike. The National Parks have been a major source for photography for well over a century.
For me, there is also the slightly annoying fact that I can't walk. As good as the National Park Service is about making the parks as accessible as possible, they are still primarily massive areas of mostly wilderness. Being in a wheelchair really limits where you can go in the parks, and therefore extremely limits what you take photos of.
You could decide it's not really worth it, or you could decide to make do with the hand your dealt and take photos that may have been taken before, but attempt to make them your own.
I chose the latter. Time will tell if I succeeded...

The lighthouse of Genoa at dusk
The Lanterna, symbol of Genoa and most important lighthouse of the city, is a 77-metre-high tower, made of two blocks, square in section, roughly of the same height, and both with a projecting terrace.
Built on a rock of 40 metres of height, the top of the Lanterna stands therefore at 117 metres above the sea level. Its light is visible from more than 50 kilometres away.
The Lanterna has welcomed vessels and boats and guided them into the harbour for centuries. The Lanterna, as we see it today, was built in 1543; unofficial sources, however, date back to 1128 the building on this site of the first tower intended to assist navigators.
Today visitors can climb 172 steps, reach the first terrace (76 m above the sea level), and enjoy the breathtaking view of the port and the old city.

Thank you everyone.
Located at the confluence of the Molignée and the Flavion, the Château de Montaigle stands proudly on a steep rocky spur. Built on an older construction, the medieval fortress was built at the beginning of the 14th century.
Since the Lower Empire, the site has seen a first Gallo-Roman fortification of the barred spur type. We are then in the 3rd century. A second architectural modification took place around the 9th century. It was further enlarged around the 12th century. Finally, the 14th century saw the last phase of modification of the castle as we can still see it today. The walls are, among other things, reinforced from the inside.
Formerly the seat of a bailiwick, the fortified castle, whose last phase of construction dates back to the beginning of the 14th century, was destroyed on the orders of Henry II of France in July 1554 by the Duke of Burgundy, François I of Nevers. Having already razed the town of Dinant in May 1554, the inhabitants of the castle had fled to Namur to seek the protection of Charles V. It is therefore a safe bet that the Duke encountered no resistance.
Having lost all strategic interest, the castle was never rebuilt after the destruction of 1554. It was left abandoned for a long time to the winds and other crows until an association took it over in the 20th century. The castle has been owned by the del Marmol family since 1865.
