The Dream Catchers (Ikorodu Talented Kids) is a project founded by Oluwaseyi Oluyole, a 26 year old Nigerian lady passionate about children.

In the muddy corners of Ikorodu, Lagos Nigeria, there lives a group of kids who don't care about school or education. These children are born without silver spoons and are looked down upon by the society because of their living condition and backgrounds. Oluwaseyi seeks out these kids, then takes them off the street and puts them in her home. Oluwaseyi picks them, cares for them,

clothes them, sends them to school and makes them into great dancers. These kids are beneficiaries of the The Dream Catchers Project. Even though majority of these kids have been told they’ll

never make it, Dance is giving the dreams of these children validity and is helping them know that irrespective of what they have been told by others, they stand a chance at

succeeding. These children have been through a lot and have different stories but they all find hope and unity in one thing – DANCE.

The Dream Catchers Project uses dance to take street/disadvantaged children off the street and puts them in school. The goal of the project is to give less privileged children a chance at a better life through dance and film making. This project has been run by Oluwaseyi since she was 15 years old - after experiencing life on the street as a preteen, her passion for despondent children was born. She began to take the kids into her parents house until she was old enough to get her own apartment.

The children in The Dream Catchers have appeared in a number of Nigerian music videos and are gradually becoming a sensation.

Because of the Dream Catchers Project, Children who once roamed the street with no hope and a future now have renewed hope and a future to look forward to. Some persons who were under this Project as children are now adults in higher institution, The Dream Catchers Project is changing the life of street/despondent kids.

One of the reasons I made the trip to Kansas was to visit the Barton County Historical Society in search of materials about my mother's family.

The results were better than I could ever have imagined. This undated photo depicts my mother's father (left) and three of his four siblings, my great uncle and two great aunts.

From left to right, the people in this photo are William Lawrence Townsley (1881-1935), Florence Evelyn Townsley Leland (1869-1936), Laura Mary Townsley, who went by the stage name Mary McCoy (1891-1956) and Charlie Townsley (1884-1956).

Absent is their brother, the painter, art instructor and art school administrator Channel Pickering Townsley (1867-1921).

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Channel_Pickering_Townsley

Each of them was talented and accomplished.

In their youth and early adulthood, Will, Laura and Charlie sang together and separately in ambitious musical programs under the direction of the musically gifted Florence at Great Bend's Congregational Church and other venues. Florence, Laura and Charlie also played piano pieces at the concerts.

As a young man, Will received good reviews for his roles in local theatrical performances for charities and in the much anticipated yearly minstrel shows. Together with the son of the town's leading pharmacist, Will was briefly a principal in a graphic design enterprise known as The Allsley Company. He was a well liked member of the town's young social set and one if its most eligible bachelors.

In the aughts of the 20th century, Will assumed the role of editor of the newspaper his father founded. He quickly rose to prominence because of his affability, diligence and service to the Kansas newspaper business. Grandfather Townsley died at a lamentably young age. He was posthumously inducted into the Kansas Press Association Hall of Fame.

Florence Leland Townsley was a prodigious musical talent. She helped develop the vocal talent that would in time propel her sister Laura to national fame as a singer and performer.

Laura distinguished herself as a singer from an early age. She toured extensively throughout the nation and starred in Broadway productions) before breaking into radio as a singer with her own program. She married the film and, later, TV composer and Hollywood figure Leith Stevens and lived with him in Beverly Hills. Her stage name was Mary McCoy. Arthritis forced her to retire from the stage.

Charlie Townsley was a regular, together with Will and Laura, at Florence's church concerts. As a young man, he gave piano and singing lessons at the eponymous Townsley School of Music in Great Bend. For a time Laura was also an instructor there. Charlie studied music in London when his brother C. P. Townsley was painting there. He was an active contributor to the family newspaper, assuming the editorship after Willl's untimely death in 1935. Charlie went on to become a prominent and popular figure in the Kansas newspaper business.

Until I began researching the lives of the Townsley siblings of my grandfather's generation, I knew nothing about Charlie except that he was involved with the paper. While I subsequently learned a lot about him, his photo eluded me for years. What did Uncle Charlie look like? To my delight, the archives at the county historical society answered that question many times over.

All of these photos were taken by the lovely and amazingly talented Jennifer Buehrer and Diana Kleven. I am so unbelievably blessed by their work, and this is just what I have so far! I cannot wait to see all the other photos from the ceremony and reception. I never could have expected such unbelievably amazing work from both of them.

Day 5 - Multi Talented Photographer

Jan 6, 2011

It is true... I am a Multi Talented Photographer... lol Actually it's more of a joke because somebody told me this today. The photo is one I took on my iPhone 4 using the program "HDR Pro" (I highly recommend it... it was well worth the $1.99) I was skating through this parking lot and saw the pretty sunset.

Today, like yesterday, was a pretty busy day for me. I decided to go Inline Skating (I haven't been out for a week because I fell last Thursday and hurt myself pretty good) and it felt great. Usually when I go out skating I will take my Radio (for listening to Police & Fire) with me and I will take my T1i in a backpack with some shoes and my credentials. If anything happens and I'm close enough I have no problem skating to the location, switching into shoes and taking photos. I also had a music show to shoot tonight along with feeding the family.

I happened to stop and have lunch while I was out skating and while eating my food outside a lady in the Drive Through pulled up and asked me if I was really taking photoos (I had my T1i out) and skating at the same time. She then went on to tell me how much talent that must take. hehe... it makes me laugh how amazed people are some times.

Enjoy!
