I am inspired by many things. Musically by the genius of Miles Davis, hence my title which refers to, IMHO, one of the best jazz albums of all time. Likewise I come to Flickr for photographic inspiration. My views on photography and indeed the many genres of photography that I attempt have been heavily influenced by so many talented people here on Flickr. One of them is Joseph Pearson Images, a London architectural photographer who has photographed so many of the same buildings and structures around London that I have but both of us do it in our own way. Its always interesting for me to see his take on a building that I am very familiar with myself and see what his 'eye' picked out. Usually it's something I've missed and so my education continues!
Yesterday Joseph posted a picture of one of my favourite underground stations here in London, Southwark station, and it got me looking back at some of the pictures I've taken over the years in this most photogenic of stations. I was surprised to see that I'd never posted this escalator shot so thought I'd do so now. Taken pre-covid, way back in 2019.
Talented Gnaoua musicians and singers in Khamlia a village in eastern Morocco on the edge of the Sahara desert. These musical families start to train their youngsters to play traditional instruments when they are very young. The little boy in the picture had been performing with this group for a year, he was only allowed to perform the easier numbers and routines.
This greater flamingo appears to be a highly talented dancer. Here his attitude reminds me of the Pasodoble dance. What a guy!

Not long ago, the Willow Emerald Damselfly had only been reliably recorded in the UK on 2 occasions, in 1979 and 1992. A single individual was then recorded in south-east Suffolk during 2007, followed in 2009 by a sudden boom of 400 records of the species from this same general area. Since this time, the Willow Emerald has spread rapidly across the south-east of England, gaining footholds in new counties on a yearly basis. The natural colonisation and spread of this damselfly in the UK is incredible.
Willow Emerald Damselfly females lay eggs into the bark of trees; these eggs overwinter and then with the coming of spring they hatch and the larva falls into the water below.
This was my first sighting of a Willow Emerald Damselfly, seen clinging for life on a Sallow twig in 40mph gusts of wind in Suffolk. My thanks to Sue Gough, a talented guide for Naturetrek, who told me where to look.

Procida is the smallest island of the Gulf of Naples; it is rich in attractions and archaeology. From the ground floor of Napoli Centro train station, you can take the metro to station Pozzuoli then get off and take the ferry at the port of Pozzuoli. The architecture of Procida has a Greek origin. In fact, the history of Procida is concentrated first of all on the medieval village “Terra Murata” and on “Corricella”, the fishing settlement. The island has served as the set for numerous films, such as The “Postman”, and some scenes in “The Talented Mr. Ripley” were shot on Corricella. A fishing village, a maze of pastel-colored houses in the amphitheater by the sea, stairs, alleys and fish restaurants. The landmarks of Procida reflect typical Mediterranean pastel colours. Procida offers simply cooking and at least 10 excellent restaurants with plain cooking based on fresh fish. This simple style never fails, thanks to the 20 local fishing boats. The specialties of the cooking are: stewed rabbit (which goes back to the Borbonen who came on Procida to hunt the wild rabbit) and spaghetti with sea-urchin. Procida has 6 beaches with crystal-clear waters. Spent some relaxing days on this wonderful island. Experience the real Italy, lovely people, great views, great sand and great food.
A working fishing village Corricella with a restaurant dock area. The view of the castle from down here is amazing. This harbour and the view of it from the opposite side of Procida, must be one of the most beautiful places in Italy - an iconic landmark. One gorgeous port that looks like time has stood still which only adds to it's charm and if you can make you way up to the old prison by quite a few steps you'll be rewarded with views to die for.

A young guy playing a Diapason piano in free access at Kyoto station, in front of Kyoto tower. We spent there a wonderful moment listening to him and some other talented pianists, male and female, some of them really very young.

The current Kyoto Station was designed by architect Hiroshi Hara, and it opened in 1997 which commemorated Kyoto's 1,200th anniversary. It is 70 meters high and 470 meters from east to west, with a total floor area of 238,000 square meters. Architecturally, it exhibits many characteristics of futurism, with a slightly irregular cubic façade of plate glass over a steel frame. During the mid-1990s, Kyoto was one of the least modern cities in Japan by virtue of its many cultural heritage sites, so locals were largely reluctant to accept such an ambitious structure. However, the station's completion began a wave of new high-rise developments in Kyoto that culminated in the 20-story Kyocera Building.

Katla is an Icelandic volcano covered by the Mýrdalsjökull ice cap in the south of the country. It lies to the east of Eyjafjöll, another volcano considered to be related to Katla.
