Sean is my multitalented brother-in-law. He knows how to make people laugh; how to make them feel good about themselves; how to make friends out of strangers.
We are in a Chinese restuarant. I am about to take Sean out to buy dress clothes for a wedding. The father of the bride is a collegue of mine but Sean knows the whoe family better than I do.
Sean's main criteria in selecting a sport coat, slacks, shirt, shoes, etc. was how much he would look like Michael Jackson, his fallen hero. Every pair of shoes he tried on had to pass the "moon-walk" test.

This is something that I decided to paint and added a few things to it.
the colorful design in the lower left is based on something that i painted before...
simple circles and half circles with colors that go very well together...

The Lighthouse

The rocky ledge runs far into the sea,
and on its outer point, some miles away,
the lighthouse lifts its massive masonry,
A pillar of fire by night, of cloud by day.
Even at this distance I can see the tides,
Upheaving, break unheard along its base,
A speechless wrath, that rises and subsides
in the white tip and tremor of the face.
And as the evening darkens, lo! how bright,
through the deep purple of the twilight air,
Beams forth the sudden radiance of its light,
with strange, unearthly splendor in the glare!
No one alone: from each projecting cape
And perilous reef along the ocean’s verge,
Starts into life a dim, gigantic shape,
Holding its lantern o’er the restless surge.
Like the great giant Christopher it stands
Upon the brink of the tempestuous wave,
Wading far out among the rocks and sands,
The night o’er taken mariner to save.
And the great ships sail outward and return
Bending and bowing o’er the billowy swells,
And ever joyful, as they see it burn
They wave their silent welcome and farewells.
They come forth from the darkness, and their sails
Gleam for a moment only in the blaze,
And eager faces, as the light unveils
Gaze at the tower, and vanish while they gaze.
The mariner remembers when a child,
on his first voyage, he saw it fade and sink
And when returning from adventures wild,
He saw it rise again o’er ocean’s brink.
Steadfast, serene, immovable, the same,
Year after year, through all the silent night
Burns on forevermore that quenchless flame,
Shines on that inextinguishable light!
It sees the ocean to its bosom clasp
The rocks and sea-sand with the kiss of peace:
It sees the wild winds lift it in their grasp,
And hold it up, and shake it like a fleece.
The startled waves leap over it; the storm
Smites it with all the scourges of the rain,
And steadily against its solid form
press the great shoulders of the hurricane.
The sea-bird wheeling round it, with the din
of wings and winds and solitary cries,
Blinded and maddened by the light within,
Dashes himself against the glare, and dies.
A new Prometheus, chained upon the rock,
Still grasping in his hand the fire of love,
it does not hear the cry, nor heed the shock,
but hails the mariner with words of love.
“Sail on!” it says: “sail on, ye stately ships!”
And with your floating bridge the ocean span;
Be mine to guard this light from all eclipse.
Be yours to bring man nearer unto man."

After exchanging a few emails, we agreed to do a common challenge. I was planning to do a vintage ad for the weekly theme of my 52 weeks project. she found the idea interesting and agreed to do the same. Here is my result.
I wanted to pick an old, obsolete item and create an ad that you could have seen in a newspaper sometime in the past. Maybe the 70's or 80's. I have very few items that fit the bill. It happened that in the last few hours of the week, as we were getting back from dinner, we found on our next door neighbor's lawn an old TV with a note on it that said, simply, "Free". You can guess the rest of the story.
The post-processing fits with the original idea I had, which is a newspaper ad. Actually, at some point I was going to try to create the newspaper page complete with the name and date. I might still try to do something like that in the future.

On a Friday night when the Rosman Tigers took on a talented Cherokee HS football team, plans were already in motion for a great night throughout the town. Capping things off with a 46-22 dismantling of the Braves only added to the joy and festivity of a crisp, fall evening in Rosman.
Senior Night brought out balloons, painted Tiger Paws all over Silversteen Stadium, and recognition of all the seniors who joined their family members on the field for a special farewell and balloon release on behalf of cancer fighters who are sorely missed or continuing their battle.
The PINK OUT was another celebration and remembrance, as part of Brittany Kirby's senior project. Kirby devised the front logo on the pink T-shirts seen here in memory of her grandmother. Part of the proceeds from shirt sales and 50/50 that night are going to care for cancer patients at Duke Cancer Center, where her grandmother was cared for before her passing earlier in 2014. Also, a part of the proceeds will go to Relay for Life.
The Tigers football team and coaches wore pink socks and T-shirts as part of the PINK OUT celebration. Cheerleaders wore T-shirts, plus extra headgear and ribbons to mark Senior Night as well.
At halftime, Hall of Fame candidates and family members were brought to the field to be inducted during the third annual recognition ceremony. In all five categories voted on and announced each year, the new inductees were:
James Bryan "Jimmy" Meece - Inspirational Experiences
Lee Powell - Career Success
Mildred Powell - Athletic Achievement
E.F. Tilson - Contributions to RHS
Chris Whitmire - Public Service
Tawny McCoy received the award on behalf of the late Mr. Tilson, and Kim Meece on behalf of her departed husband, Jimmy.
Finally, the band ushered in a Senior Night surprise when Avengers Iron Man and Captain America appeared as part of the superheroes-themed production.
On top of all this, Rosman HS FCA invited the entire community to their 4th Annual Block Party in front of the high school. Hot dogs, cold and hot drinks, s'mores and bonfires, all featured in an enjoyable and festive evening to celebrate the Tigers victory and many emotional events of the night.

On a Friday night when the Rosman Tigers took on a talented Cherokee HS football team, plans were already in motion for a great night throughout the town. Capping things off with a 46-22 dismantling of the Braves only added to the joy and festivity of a crisp, fall evening in Rosman.
Senior Night brought out balloons, painted Tiger Paws all over Silversteen Stadium, and recognition of all the seniors who joined their family members on the field for a special farewell and balloon release on behalf of cancer fighters who are sorely missed or continuing their battle.

This is at the same time a long and short report , about the traditional sacred and profane feast with pagan roots, called "u Ballu di Diavuli" (The Dance of the Devils) that I made this year on the afternoon of Easter in the Sicilian village of Prizzi (in the province of Palermo); this feast, which has medieval origins, is the representation of the eternal struggle of Evil (two Devils and Death) against the Good (Christ and the Virgin Mary). Devils wears a wool suit in red (the color of the fire of hell ...), also wearing a flashy iron mask with a big mouth adorned with big teeth and a lolling tongue, the mask is surmounted by two horns while the back is covered with a fleece of a goat that covers shoulders and back (a Devil has a black fleece, the other Devil a white fleece), and Devils shake pieces of iron chains which are agitated bumping against the masks; the Death wears a wool suit of yellow ocher, wearing a leather mask always yellow, which looks like a skull, from his mouth come out long teeth, it holds in its hands an "instrument of death" very similar to a medieval crossbow. The feast begins on Easter morning, Death along with the two devils (which have become even four, to involve as many passers-by) roam the streets of the town of Prizzi, engaging with the passers jokes and cajoling, passers are invited to dance with them at the sound of the well-paced band music. Often the two devils "capture the spirit" of a passer, which to be able to see his liberated soul .... must issue a small donation symbolic .... Adam was born to a multi-talented beauty queen Mother and a Father who, in addition to being a US Army Spy and a Counter-Intelligence Special Agent, was also a highly accomplished entrepreneur. Adam was taught at a young age that, in both life and business, loyalty is a requirement for success. He’s had the honor of working directly with his father in several of the family businesses.
