I’m always impressed with the various talents our students have, like these two providing a musical interlude to our commencement services.
'Gifted and Talented programme' Public Speaking Competition
The event took place on Thursday 26 June. It proved to be both an entertaining and informative evening. For many of our pupils who prepared and delivered presentations, speaking to a large group of people was a new experience.
The competition winners were the Religious Education Faculty, whose great life was Jackie Pullinger - a British missionary who went to Hong Kong and worked in the Kowloon Walled City. Her work has resulted in at least 500 drug addicts being saved from their drug addictions.

Now in it’s 15th year, the United State Navy Band is has been proud to host and present the High School Concerto Competition. Encouraging young musicians is one of the Navy Band’s educational objectives and this annual program is an opportunity for talented high school age musicians to perform with the Band. Adam was born to a multi-talented beauty queen Mother and a Father who, in addition to being a US Army Spy and a Counter-Intelligence Special Agent, was also a highly accomplished entrepreneur. Adam was taught at a young age that, in both life and business, loyalty is a requirement for success. He’s had the honor of working directly with his father in several of the family businesses. Adam earned his Bachelors of Science Degree in International Business and Marketing from the University of Utah. My partner at 'Nordic Friday' and I had the good fortune to work with her on her website, business and concept this summer.
When I went away on vacation with my family I decided to take Barbie out for a treat. It was nowhere near as exiting as what she usually experiences in Berlin.

Check out the talented artists featured in the Little Gallery’s Plein Air Art Show! All the works on display are available for sale. Benny Venom has been spinning the hardest tracks EDM has had to offer for the past 5 years. He is well known in his hometown for his high energy performances, dirty tracks, and superb mixing ability. Hailing from northern California, he has performed in cities all around his hometown and the bay area including San Francisco, Berkeley, San Jose, Santa Cruz, and Oakland. Though he enjoys spinning tech house and trance, he has earned his name through consistently dropping the freshest in electro, dubstep, and trap for the underground rave scene.

Charlie Brown Superstar (aka Brett Fuller) has been spinning records in Huntington's most popular nightclubs since
1994, covering a wide range of musical genres. He currently holds residency at the V Club, where he DJ's the area's most popular and longest-running dance night, New Moon on Mondays, mixing the best new wave, rock and pop that the 80's had to offer. He has had the honor of performing with such nationally recognized recording artists as Arrested Development and Electric Six.
Charlie Brown Superstar is also one of the first House music dj's in the area and was the resident at the legendary local venue Gyrationz (the first club to feature an all EDM format) He is known for his marathon sets of Deep House and Electro.
In addition, Charlie Brown Superstar is an LBA Records recording artist and has been composing original electronic music since 1999. He did sampling for and toured with the popular local rock band, Chum, during the mid-90's and is currently a member of the critically acclaimed drone/doom metal band, Hyatari. His influences include everything from Mercury Rev, Gary Numan, Curtis Mayfield, H.G. Lewis, robots and even B-movies.

I have become a terrible driver. This is not to say that I was a particularly talented one to begin with. Unlike most teenagers I slithered at a snails pace to get my license. At the age of 18 my boyfriend finally taught me to line up the cones in my rearview mirror and I parallel parked my way into convincing the state that I would be careful and obey the law.
Now, when ever I drive I look more at the trees than I do the road. As I rolled into Marietta I had to stop short more than once to avoid rear ending the car in front of me. My eyes darted from yellow to purple to pink. I wondered if the flowers on the side of the highway were weeds, I wondered if the residents of Mt. Peasant road had intentionally planted wisteria along their drive or if had been there for years, I wondered if it would start to rain before I could get out of my car and photograph the flowers petals that had suddenly turned the world pink.
Some stereotypes stem from repeated truths, so of course the weatherman was wrong. He canceled the tornado warning and I went for a walk.
There is a part of my mind that I know words fall short of explaining. It's the part of my brain that translates everyday life into photographs. The link between my eyes, my heart and my hands. I look at the red brick and see the team of men that spent weeks laying them one by one. I wonder who paid them to pave over the earth, I wonder if they believed that it was a fair wage for the work of establishing the ground we walk on.
I look at the red brick and I see someone's rich attempt to tame the wild. Where there once was forest, grass, dirt, and wildlife there is now a pretty pattern of blocks and blank black asphalt road that extends along the train tracks. Yet, as I walk down the block and look at the brick I see the weakness in this structure.
The roots of the trees extend towards the foundations of the houses and push the bricks out of their way. Green clover springs forth from between the gaps proving to me that there is real ground here. The train horn blasts as its cars roll past and shake the petals from the cherry trees that line the street. The wind picks up and gently pushes my body forward and carries the pink petals towards me and lets them settle on top of my shoes. I realized then that there is a purpose to the wind. It comes to us on the heals of thunderstorms and cloudy days but its presence coincides with the disappearance of the ephemerals. The wind rushes through and plucks the petals from the delicate flowers, making room for summer's green growth. The cherry blossom and dogwood trees are stripped of their flowers and settle on whatever surface will have them. Brick, ivy, concrete, steel, wood, skin. Everything is covered in wet layers of mother nature.
I look around and I want to absorb it all. The memory of the brick layers and the sensations of the wind, the structure of the steel grates and the freedom of the floating flower petals, the strength of the earth and the weakness of man. I photograph until my battery dies. I attempt to memorialize this moment. I attempt to praise both the brick and the dirt that lies below it. In my photographs, I worship the ground that we all walk on.
'Gifted and Talented programme' Public Speaking Competition
The event took place on Thursday 26 June. It proved to be both an entertaining and informative evening. For many of our pupils who prepared and delivered presentations, speaking to a large group of people was a new experience.
The competition winners were the Religious Education Faculty, whose great life was Jackie Pullinger - a British missionary who went to Hong Kong and worked in the Kowloon Walled City. Her work has resulted in at least 500 drug addicts being saved from their drug addictions.
