VILMA DIAZ "CUMBIA DIVA"
Is a very talented singer internationally recognized for her mastery of tropical style. She was born in Medellin-Colombia, a city that prepared her to be one of the main vocalists of the most famous tropical bands. At the age of 20 a well known record label company discovered her talent and she was offered a recording contract. The quality and power of her voice permitted her to be the lead voice of "La Sonora Dinamita" which is a favorite worldwide tropical band.
In 1989 and already being part of "La Sonora Dinamita" had numerous hits such as "Ya Para Que", "EL Desamor", etc. In 1993 she recorded "ESCANDALO", and as a result of the success of this tropical classic hit, Vilma became recognized as "CUMBIA DIVA". In 2008 Vilma Diaz released the single "Mirada Latina" which is now played in most popular tropical music worldwide radio stations.
Vilma has performed for the King of Spain, The President of El Salvador (Alfredo Cristiani) during the signing of an historical Peace Treaty, and she has received the keys and has been named honorary citizen of several cities.
Vilma has been called to appear on the line up of very many high profile Latin music shows like "Despierta America", "Sabado Gigante", "Jerry Lewis Show", "Paul Rodriguez Show", "Cotorreando", "La Movida", "Siempre En Domingo", "El Show de Johnny Canales". "12 Corazones", "Adelante Hispanos", "El Show de Cristina", as well as live performances in "Citywalk" (Universal Studios), "Fiesta Broadway"(Los Angeles), "Festival De La Calle 8"(Miami), "Viva Chicago Festival", Macro Plaza"(Monterey-Mexico), "Madison Square Garden" NYC, "Calgary Festival" (Canada), "Sunset Junction Festival" and top of the major Central and South America, and Europe Concerts and Festivals. Her life and hit songs have been covered in all top publications, TV an radio stations.
Vilma continues singing with her implacable voice and she maintains some of the original Colombian musicians that also played and recorded in 90's with "La Sonora Dinamita".
When the atmosphere pulsates with impassioned vocals, vibrating and explosive percussion, fiery horns and deeply sensual rhythms, then "Vilma Diaz" must be playing.

A marvellous hand-cut scrolled or curl pattern jigsaw made by talented Russian cutter Alexey Morozov of Izh Puzzles. The cut is in the form of a triskele - a 3-piece interlocking motif of three spirals - my puzzle came with an extra 3 pieces which you can see in the photo. These duplicate the area above the book near Christ's hand. This caused me some uncertainty when I was making up the puzzle as the duplicates are fractionally offset, and as luck would have it I found the false match first. I don't know why I had the extra three pieces - I hope it was a practice cut and that someone else isn't missing three pieces!
The image is a beautiful tondo by Botticelli - Madonna del Magnificat. In assembling this I started with edge pieces, but soon left off and focused on characteristic areas like the book, faces, red sleeves, gold tunic, curtain and veil of of honour. The most difficult area was the dark robe of the Virgin.

The Madonna of the Magnificat, Italian: Madonna del Magnificat, is a painting of circular or tondo form by the Italian Renaissance painter Sandro Botticelli. It is now in the galleries of the Uffizi, in Florence.
The work portrays the Virgin Mary crowned by two angels. She is writing the opening of the Magnificat on the right-hand page of a book; on the left page is part of the Benedictus. In her left hand she holds a pomegranate. Mary is thought to be a portrait of Lucrezia Tornabuoni, wife of Piero de' Medici, and the two angels holding the book to be her sons Lorenzo and Giuliano. In his book 'The Agony and The Ecstasy', about Michelangelo's life, the writer Irving Stone, who spent several years living in Florence, Italy, claims that the painting was actually made for Medici family at the time.
The history of the painting is not known. It was acquired by the Uffizi in 1785 from Ottavio Magherini. It may have come from one of the many monasteries suppressed by the Archduke Pietro Leopoldo. It has been identified with the tondo in the church of San Francesco al Monte mentioned by Vasari and Bocchi, but the description does not coincide and this identification is usually rejected. There are several copies of the painting, including one in the Louvre, one in the Pierpont Morgan Library in New York.
There are other Botticelli tondos where the Christ child holds a pomegranate, a symbol of the spilt blood of the Crucifixion and the rebirth of the Resurrection and eternal life. The fruit also figured prominently in classical mythology when the abducted Persephone was condemned to remain a third the year in the underworld because she ate six pomegranate seeds.

About Ray Gonzalez
Ray González
Ray Gonález is a musician dedicated in mind, body and soul to the creation of salsa and Latin jazz. A
re-known musician and Latin music pioneer in Connecticut, Ray González was born in Gurabo, Puerto
Rico. He attended the Conservatory of Music and the University of Puerto Rico. He also studied under
the tutelage of Master Trumpeter Carmine Caruzo, in New York City. González has over 35 years of
experience in the performing arts as a professional musician, arranger, composer and conductor. As a
musician, the Caribbean, South America and the United States have been his laboratory of experience.
González has played and recorded with international musicians such as Tito Puente, Charlie Palmieri,
Kako, Giovanni Hidalgo, Charlie Sepúlveda, Ismael Rivera, Ray de La Paz, the Puerto Rican Power
Orchestra and many others. In November 2006, González presented his latest Salsa CD production “Yo
tengo lo que te gusta”. The production was warmly received by the public, the music critics and was
pre-nominated for a Latin Grammy.
Over the years González has held the position of Music Director at numerous institutions including the
University of Turabo, the “Hartford Arts Festival” and the “International Latin American Voice and
Song Festival”. González is the Music Director of Guakía, Inc. and founder of Guakibomjazz, a Latin
jazz youth orchestra. Through the years, González has been commissioned to compose music for the
Hartford Symphony Orchestra and the New Haven Symphony Orchestra. Among his most celebrated
compositions for the Hartford Symphony Orchestra is: “Symphonic Salsa” 1991 and “Pa’ Vieques”
2003. González has also performed in collaboration with the symphonies for many projects such as
Music of the Americas, Serenata Latina, Fiesta Latina and others.
Ray González has received special honors, awards and recognitions by many political institutions and
community entities: Connecticut’s former Governor William O’Neill, Southern CT State University,
The Hispanic Health Council, the María Sánchez Award, University of CT, the Hispanic Professional
Network, and Mi Casa, among others. Hartford City Mayor Eddie Pérez and the Court of Common
Council proclaimed May 2, 2004 and as Ray González’s Day in the City of Hartford. The Connecticut
State Senate and the House of Representatives also issued an official citation in recognition of González
for his contribution to Latin Music and his dedication to youth education.
In 2007, Guakía, Inc. created The Ray González Latin Jazz and Salsa Festival, an annual event to honor
the pioneering work of Ray González in CT as a professional musician in Latin Jazz and Salsa and as an
educator of the Latino youth for over 35 years. Hartford’s Mayor Eddie Pérez, officiated the ribbon
cutting ceremony and proclaimed August 9, 2007 as The Ray González Latin Jazz and Salsa Festival
day in Hartford, CT. The festival’s mission is to heal with music the soul of the community and nourish
it’s yearning for music of excellence. The festival features some of the most talented international artist
in Latin Jazz and Salsa, such as: Luis Marín, Paoli Mejías, Jerry Medina, Charlie Sepúlveda, Miguel

anyhow I thought I would start to try out some of the examples in the book. this is direct reflection vs diffused reflection. in the first the detail on the black door stop is far more distinguishable, in the second the texture of the frame is far more detailed.

'Gifted and Talented programme' Public Speaking Competition
The event took place on Thursday 26 June. It proved to be both an entertaining and informative evening. For many of our pupils who prepared and delivered presentations, speaking to a large group of people was a new experience.
The competition winners were the Religious Education Faculty, whose great life was Jackie Pullinger - a British missionary who went to Hong Kong and worked in the Kowloon Walled City. Her work has resulted in at least 500 drug addicts being saved from their drug addictions.

I'm not really sure when,unfortunately I forgot to put the date on it...
It was a nice exercise but there area few things that I'm not really happy with...

This is a severely modified 1:12th Viper patterned by the very talented Mike Salzo. I backdated the design a bit to fit into the Ron Moore Battlestar Galactica scheme, imagining it to be a "Mark 1" design. Lights include blinking port and starboard navigation lights, strobing white light on the top winglet, lit Viper Pilot helmet, three engine (one is experiencing a "flame out", cockpit fiber optics, and a first in model making from what i can tell - an LED screen that cycles a Dradis display I designed to look like a cross between the one seen on the show, and on the original 1979 series! Every second, it refreshes with an updated readout - showing Vipers, Raiders, and Basestars (represented as asterix of course) moving around the field, with energy and fuel bars also slowly being depleted. Then, the last few screens shimmer with feedback - the Cylons are jamming us!!
Students get involved with the final challenge of the day, during an athletics camp at imjin barrcaks.
Headquarters, Allied Rapid Reaction Corps (HQ ARRC) hosted an athletic camp for local gifted and talented youth at Imjin Barracks on 1 May.
The event, organized and run by Gloucestershire’s Hartpury College, saw close to 100 athletic teens from area secondary schools come to Imjin Barracks to compete in both single and group challenges, several of them with a military theme.
The camp’s events will be directed by both Hartpury third-year students as well as ARRC personnel assigned to the ARRC Support Battalion.
Pioneered by Hartpury HE Sport department’s Dean Clark, the camp is the college’s attempt to re-energize the UK’s Young, Gifted, and Talented Programme in the Gloucestershire area.
The Young, Gifted & Talented Programme is a UK government scheme that aims to enhance the educational development of students between the ages of 4 and 19. The scheme was established in 2002. Within the scheme, a young and gifted individual is defined as: "...children and young people with one or more abilities developed to a level significantly ahead of their year group (or with the potential to develop those abilities)”

Adam was born to a multi-talented beauty queen Mother and a Father who, in addition to being a US Army Spy and a Counter-Intelligence Special Agent, was also a highly accomplished entrepreneur. Adam was taught at a young age that, in both life and business, loyalty is a requirement for success. He’s had the honor of working directly with his father in several of the family businesses. In fact, this is where he learned crucial entrepreneurial skills and honed his talents with international business strategies and venture capitalism.
Adam earned his Bachelors of Science Degree in International Business and Marketing from the University of Utah.
