This is a photograph of Ellis Kelsey, the talented and prolific Eastbourne amateur photographer, sitting at his organ in his home in Upper Avenue, Eastbourne.
He took this 'selfie' by setting up his camera, starting the exposure, then sitting down pretending to read a book and then getting up again to stop the exposure. This can be seen by the ghostly organ keys appearing to pass in front of him. Exposures in low light and with slow emulsion coatings on the glass plates took a long time i.e measured in minutes not fractions of a second.
E.K. was a piano and organ teacher who trained at the Royal College of Music.
Seaford museum owns this image and many, many more. With their permission I will add some more of E.K.s photo's if interested people follow this Flickr site. His work covers most subjects and features Eastbourne, Richmond Surrey, Isle of Axholme, Sussex Villages, the European Tour sites, low-light photography, early colour photography, stereography and much more. He wrote many articles on the subject of low light photography, exhibited 99 of his photo's at the Royal Photographic Society Exhibitions and won prizes for his work.
Seaford Museum is located in Martello Tower 74 on the Esplanade in Seaford i.e. the round building with a canon on the top!
