California ISO Headquarters, Dreyfuss & Blackford Architects. #wedesignedthis

The California Independent System Operator moved into their new headquarters campus, ahead of schedule and right on budget. This was a visionary project for the non-profit ISO, which manages the electrical grid for the entire state of California. The over-arching goal in the new facility was to create a secure, innovative and energy efficient headquarters complex. A further design goal was to enhance the work environment so that California ISO becomes the “employer of choice” for engineering and technical staff in the region.

The site is a pristine, gently rolling savannah with a glade of nearly 100 native oaks. We carefully nestled the building into the natural site, preserving the native oak trees. Generous native landscape areas were also preserved and incorporated as passive security setbacks for the facility.

The complex was designed with three separate building elements: a wing for public functions, a wing for administrative offices, and a wing housing the essential services “mission critical” operations. A striking central lobby serves as a hub, linking the building elements, providing way-finding and security screening.

To demonstrate leadership by example, the project placed an emphasis on energy efficiency and sustainability and in July 2011 earned a LEED Platinum rating – the highest rating possible - from the US Green Building Council. The building is designed with a particular focus on achieving energy efficiency and is projected to operate nearly 40% more efficiently than California’s restrictive Title 24 standards with nearly 20% of it’s annual power consumption being supplied by renewable energy from on-site photovoltaic arrays.

Our old D-Link router recently died on us—the WAN port, anyway—so we got a Linksys router at Office Depot. Figured I'd dry to get a decent photo of it—or part of it.

In most turbo systems there is some sort of valve, either a diverter/bypass valve or a blow-off valve. When you are in boost and let off the throttle, the intake pipe becomes extremely pressurized and superheats the air inside of it. All that pressure is trying to go somewhere, and without...

As my good friends know, my car got broken into a few months back, and these low lives took my Knives that I had for 15 years. Since they broke in without breaking the window, the Cops, and the insurance company just shrugged their shoulders and did nothing. I do have a decent car alarm, but what is the point when it's going off but no one responds?? Crooks know that!!

I can't go Charles Bronson and hunt them down, since ah... what's the word? Illegal. After searching for a better surveillence system, alarms etc, I just got fed up with all of them since they are very expensive, and not effective enough.

I did, however find a few goodies online that airsoft hobbiest, Paint ballers, and Military use for training excersizes. One was Co2 powered and the velocity was a bit too dangerous at close range, so I chose this replica Claymore mine. It could shoot 300 or so BBs, or anyother thing you decide to put in there via spring powered trampoline.

Relax folks, it is not a danger to anyone, unless ofcourse they decide to break into the locked glove compartment. That is precisely what happened last time, so hopefully..... There will not be a next time, but if it does I am ready. All I have to say is, this thing will ruin that perps' day, haha!!

Every year, disasters caused by weather, climate and water-related hazards impact on communities around the world, leading to loss of human life, destruction of social and economic infrastructure and degradation of already fragile ecosystems. Statistics from the Center for Research on the Epidemiology of Disasters (CRED) at the university of Leuven, Belgium, reveal that from 1992-2001, about 90% of natural disasters were meteorological or hydrological in origin; the resulting economic losses were estimated at $446bn, or about 65% of all damage caused by natural disasters.
