A grounding system, which is made up of a grounding rod and wires, provides a low-impedance path to the ground. This low-impedance path is installed to encourage the lightning to travel through it instead of through your expensive electronic equipment. They are also significantly more cost – effective while still providing high corrosion resistance and low electrical resistance. Should you require additional support and specification guidance on selecting the most appropriate grounding rod, you may contact us: www.lightningprotection.com/grounding-earthing/
"The fort was designed to hold 1.5 million gallons of water in 110 cisterns, 109 of which were constructed under the first tier casemates. Rainwater collected along the top of the fort would be piped down the columns of the casemates into the reservoirs beneath. Lack of annual rainfall, the inherently salty nature of the sand the water trickled through, and the saltwater intrusion from the settling of the fort, made most of the cisterns unserviceable. During the Civil War, steam powered salt water condensing plants were brought to Fort Jefferson to produce freshwater for the garrison." from Fort Jefferson: Self-Guided Tour

February 21: After a day of training, there was an evening of pizza and cards--but preceded by some problem solving. Or clarifying, anyway. How do the pulley and prussiks and load release and ladder rack all go together? How do you pass a knot? It was shop talk, but it was good to touch bases and make sure we were all thinking along the same lines.

One system of tunnels that is open to the public on a regular basis, normally the first weekend in September each year, are the tunnels beneath the village of Bouzincourt. These tunnels cut into the chalk had been used to hide both villages and their cattle and then during WW1 they became a billet for troops. Spending long periods of time resting in the tunnels, British and Commonwealth soldiers covered the walls with memorials to their lost comrades and their own names and those of their units. Many of these fragile inscriptions are written in field pencil, while others are cut into the chalk.
