This build was inspired by a real-life store in Tokyo: Hayatochiri in Kôenji. The main challenge here was to reproduce the organic feeling of the tarp-covered roof, as well as coming up with interesting greeblings to put on said roof. And then, I just had to cram the little space with as much stuff as I could!
The concept behind this little series was to craft something small and modular, starting off from a 16 x 16 baseplate, and trying to cram as much detail as possible. True to the way small streets are structured in Japan, I have opted for a 6-stud wide road standard, with an additional 3 studs for the "sidewalk" (which is, more often than not, materialized with just a white line on the pavement). This means that those little constructions have an open back, thus allowing to peer inside.

Built in 1897 on the Greybull River, this general store building was moved to Burlington, Wyoming townsite where it continued fuctioning as a genewral store for several years. The building was moved again from its location in Burlington to the Old Trail Town collection in Cody Wyoming by archaeologist and historian, Bob Edgar. During the 1960's Bob watched as some of old historical buildings of the Big Horn Basin disappeared from the landscape. He decided one way to save some of the buildings was to gather them together into one collection. Starting in 1967 Bob moved 26 historic buildigs to "Old Trail Town"which is located in an area that Buffalo Bill and his associates had chosen for the first town site of "Cody City" in 1895.

A fixture in Delaware, Ohio, since 1969, the store relocated from a few blocks to the east back in 1986. The store's last day was February 13, 2016.

Built in 1832, the Georgian-style Stone Store was originally a Missionary Society warehouse but assumed various roles including a trading post, library, barracks and boys’ school.

All the Bluebird railcars were withdrawn at rhe end of 1990 after country rail services were withdrawn at the end of 1990.
These trees cars, 251,252,258 lasted about another year running special pokies train trips to Broken Hill and return before being stored at Mile End and then Dry Creek North as seen on 21-1-1995.
251 and 252 would see service on the wine train from 1998 until 2003 then be converted into Crew vans for Aurizon in 2023 while 258 would be rebuilt into SCT crew van PDAY3 in 2005

I think we’ve seen an overly healthy amount of that produce sign by now, so here’s a shot facing the other direction for a change, haha! Here our view stretches all the way out of the produce department and over to the opposite side of the building, where the pharmacy counter is located. We’ll make our way over there eventually!
Also noteworthy in this view is the little restrooms corridor right between the vestibule and the beginning of the produce department: there you can see the new fresh and local hanging sign, which as Northwest Retail has pointed out before, is so cleverly designed with the way it has that arrow built into it. (At least, I’m pretty sure he’s said that, but of course I can’t find any proof of it now that I’ve gone looking…)
