This is almost what I wanted. I think I can improve on it by making the individual pieces of the memorial clearer, and by more dramatically controlling the area of sharp focus. I did use front swing to try to match the plane of focus to the plane connecting the flag on the right with the star-wand on the left. But I might have fared better with a wider aperture (this was f/16), and perhaps even with some more unconventional movements.

9/11 memorial at Liberty State park in New Jersey...the ring effect occurs in late afternoon, close to sunset as the sun dips low in the sky. The couple in the shot were tourists and they were photographing each other and we asked if we could photograph them...I debated about posting this as a more solemn type of pose would have been more in keeping with this memorial but this shot of them jumping in the air just seemed more dynamic and in essence, a triumph over tragedy.

This is one of the Delaware State Police's brand new Ford Explorer Utilities. I was told that the agency just got these and are about to issue them out throughout the state. This vehicle will be in a trial phase for the agency and each Troop is getting only one to try. Currently, the Delaware State Police is dominated by Chevrolet Tahoe's.

Enjoying the day in Letchworth State Park in Upstate Ny with my grandkids. While taking photographs of the twins enjoying the day a group of Mennonite girls approached the wall to enjoy the view. I like the contrast of cultures as well as the expressions on the girls faces as they notice the twins. I did ask after what their religious views were about being photographed and they don't like to be asked to pose for photographs. Being captured in an image going about their day was fine.

Smith Rock State Park is an American state park located in central Oregon's High Desert near the communities of Redmond and Terrebonne. Its sheer cliffs of tuff and basalt are ideal for rock climbing of all difficulty levels. Smith Rock is generally considered the birthplace of modern American sport climbing, and is host to cutting-edge climbing routes. It is popular for sport climbing. The geology of Smith Rocks is volcanic. It is made up of layers of recent basalt flows overlaying older Clarno ash and tuff formations. Approximately 30 million years ago, a large caldera was formed when overlying rock collapsed into an underground lava chamber. This created a huge amount of rock and ash debris that filled the caldera. That material solidified into rock, becoming Smith Rock tuff. A half million years ago, basalt lava flows from nearby volcanoes covered the older tuff. More recently, the Crooked River cut its way through the layers of rock to create today's geographic features. Smith Rock itself is a 3,200-foot (980 m)-high ridge (above sea level) with a sheer cliff-face overlooking a bend in the Crooked River (elev. 2600 ft), making the cliffs about 600 feet high.
