This is one of the first photographs I uploaded to Flickr and can remember the thrill of getting the sort of shot I had seen others capture.

I took this photo on March 17th 2015 and can remember rushing up the road with my little compact camera to capture the sun which was going down like a big red ball. I wanted to frame something in front of it for added interest and managed to get the spires of a church.

I captured the glorious sunset with two church spires on a tower set against the big red ball of a sun. If you look closely you can see a bird looking down. I was at full focal length on my compact camera, so had a job to steady it and frame it before the sun disappeared.

Soleil couchant à Hourtin, France

Today, the smoke plume from the Badger Creek Fire stayed mostly west of me and provided a nice sun transit 70 minutes before sunset. The sun is distorted as a result of thick smoke and some mid to high scattered clouds.

At the time of this image the fire was 14,960 acres with no containment.

Near every day. We get to see this spectacle. In our backyard. The pines dance to the Zebra stripes. Just as the sun sets in the west.

Panorama view of the sunset today from Highland Farms in Cornish.

Haven't picked up my camera much lately. I've been taking care of my home and helping my parents quite a bit. I did notice the gorgeous light as the sun was setting over the weekend and by the time I raced inside to grab my camera it was all but gone. I was literally chasing the light on this one. Chasing the light is a good endeavor for my camera and for my life.

These two canoeists came paddling fast from behind the rocks just as i took this photo at Hawkcraig Point in Aberdour,Fife.

This photo was 1 of 2 chosen in the Dunfermline Press for photo of the week on 19-1-2017.

During our holiday I tried a few things with my camera which I have not done as much - like full-on backlight photography. This is from the same meadow as in the previous shot - the camera just pointed in the opposite direction straight into the setting sun. I'm quite happy with the flares and lit contours of the flowers from that lovely golden light.

I think this would have been better without the trees down there, but still seems ok.

This is a reprocessed version of an image that I originally posted in 2014. I am considering it for inclusion in a photo exhibit. Don't you think this would really pop when printed on metal?

Among other things, the original version (shown below in the first comment) was darker and there was a strong red overcast on the opposite shoreline (it looked like lava). I reused the original base HDR version when processing it this second time around. I also tried using the Sponge Tool in Photoshop for the first time... desaturating the strong red-hue chromatic aberration on the opposite shoreline. In this case, it actually worked much better than I had anticipated.

The shot was taken during the fall while standing in a small parking lot/vista point beside Baxter's Lakeside Grille, which is not far from Bagnel Dam on US 54 Business in mid-Missouri. The Blue Heron Restaurant is visible on the hillside on the right. Beyond it in the distance, not visible in the photo, lies the Village of Four Seasons on the beautiful Horseshoe Bend Parkway. Located in the heart of the state of Missouri, the Lake of the Ozarks has over 1,150 miles of shoreline and attracts vacationers from around the world.

I had grand hopes of a nice sunset for the birthday eve BBQ. It didn't happen though as there were too many clouds when the sun went down :( I did though get a chance to play with my GNDs. This photo has both a 3stop hard and a 2stop soft on it.

Beautiful sunset capture on Cayuga Lake in upstate New York!

Sunset on the beach of Schiermonnikoog, Friesland, The Netherlands

Schiermonnikoog is an island, a municipality, and a national park in the northern Netherlands. Schiermonnikoog is one of the West Frisian Islands, and is part of the province of Friesland. It is situated between the islands of Ameland and Rottumerplaat in the Wadden Sea. The Wadden Sea (Dutch: Waddenzee, German: Wattenmeer, Low German: Wattensee or Waddenzee, Danish: Vadehavet, West Frisian: Waadsee, North Frisian: di Heef) is an intertidal zone in the southeastern part of the North Sea. It lies between the coast of northwestern continental Europe and the range of Frisian Islands, forming a shallow body of water with tidal flats and wetlands. It is rich in biological diversity. In 2009, the Dutch and German parts of the Wadden Sea were inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List and the Danish part was added in June 2014

The island of Schiermonikoog is 16 kilometres (9.9 mi) long and 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) wide and is the site of the Netherlands' first national park. The only village on the island is also called Schiermonnikoog. Just around 832 people permanently reside on the island, making the municipality the least densely populated in the Netherlands. Because the island is small and flat, only 200 islanders have taken out the special licence allowing them to keep their own car, with the result that the few streets are virtually car-free.

The Sonoran Desert is the only place in the world where the Saguaro cactus grows in the wild. This vast desert stretches from Arizona into California, and most of northern Sonora, Mexico. This was taken on a hike, after a dust storm at sunset in the Saguaro National Park in Arizona, west of Tucson.

"Sandhill Cranes in Flight Over Pine Forest on Canvas Background" by Patti Deters. Two Sandhill Cranes (Grus canadensis) fly into the rising sun over a small group of pine trees below. This flowing digital art background has a canvas texture that looks a bit like a watercolor. The shades of teal, turquoise, and grey along with a hint of the orange sun give it a simple retro look. (re: this set) I'm enjoying the fact that there is a little light left by the time I get home from work these days. I was drawn to the strong shadows on the bare crape myrtle trunks, initially, then Charlie jumped up. The light was interesting with a cool blue light along his right side, and the very warm yellow light on the trunks.
