It was pleasant to pause here for a few moments and take in the sights.

At the end of the day as I was walking home, I noticed these birds on a stretch of shallow water on the beach close to my home. The peace and tranquility of these seagulls amazed me. I was struck by their taking the moment to savor the beauty. I too stood there and tried to take it all in with the birds I was thinking, “These birds see this every so often. Do they know the worth of Peace? They must, or else they would not pause at this moment!” I felt that these birds probably know it better than me because I keep running in Life, not pausing to enjoy the beauties and peace that Nature bestows upon us without any expectations … just my 2 cents.

Not sure if it was me or the rays from the sinking sun that was doing most of the dancing. The sea was lively and I had to dodge some significant 'splashes'. Managed to avoid a soaking though. Lovely to finally get out for a few minutes!

Portwrinkle is a small coastal village in south-east Cornwall. It is at the western end of Whitsand Bay. It was traditionally a fishing village and the old 17th century walls of the pilchard cellars are still standing, although they have been incorporated into housing. The village has two beaches that are accessible from it, one of which has a harbour.

Probably would have been a better shot without the central tree. Nevermind.... Still think it more or less works

Long exposure of the sunset at Camber Sands

Instagram @roberto.bertero

Beyond the "artistic" title, I took this photo on the border between Val Maira and Vallée de l'Ubaye, descending from the French side of the Tête de la Frema (3,142 m).

On a foggy evening the sun began to set on the back of the Brec de Chambeyron (not visible here due to thick fog). But soon it would open, so I will show that beautiful mountain in other shots.

At this very moment I wanted to capture, more than anything else, the particular otherwoldly atmosphere so typical of moments of reduced visibility.

The reeds are blazing in the setting winter sun. You're looking at what is called the 'Zoute Kom' (Salt bowl) of the ringmoat arround the fortress of Hellevoetsluis. And I'am standing on the former seadike, dividing the moat and the sea. This part of the ringmoat used to be salt water. Now it is salt no longer, because the Haringvliet has become a fres water lake, boardering the North Sea (all part of the Deltaworks). The concrete bunker you see is a remnant of German fabrication, build in the years the Germans where guests in our little country by the sea. They sure liked this vantage point for they constructed numerous concrete dwellings that have a view over the sea....

If you want to get your geographical bearings go to Mapping the Sites and look for number 8 Hellevoetsluis in the map.

My technique is alway the same:

Three exposures -2EV, 0, +2EV and then temperature adjustement using Lightroom and layering with luminosity mask using photoshop. Removal of distracting stuff with the stamp tool or patch tool. High pass filter to enhance details. Then saturation, contrast selectively control, dodge and burn where need...

DRI stand for Dynamic Range Increase. Three RAW files are used to achieve this. Rather than using a software like Photomatix for instance, I simply use mask to blend, my own way, the light, dark and normal shot with Photoshop and Lightroom.. To me, It looks more natural than the usual HDR treatment that I would normally applied.

Dodge and burn là où requis...

I have been playing around with a few versions and edits of this sunset over the modern waterfront of Macau. This one is probably my favourite and the most similar to how I remember it on the evening. Taken with a Canon 5D4 and a Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8 L II USM at 16mm for 30 seconds of exposure.

I won a trip to Macau & Hong kong for a Wanderlust Travel Photography Competition win.

A pair of swans drift across the lake that divides Highfields Park and University Park, at the University of Nottingham, during a glorious winter sunset.

The Highfields Estate was originally landscaped by Joseph and Alfred Lowe in the 18th century. The park grounds were purchased by Sir Jesse Boot, founder of pharmacist Boots & Co, and presented to the University in 1920, allowing the University to move from their former site in the centre of Nottingham. The park was designed by Percy Richard Morley Horder, and the extension of the existing fishpond into the current boating lake and the diversion of Tottle brook were carried out by the engineer William H. Radford.

Taken with a Nikon D40, fitted with a Nikkor AFS DX 18-55mm F/3.5-5.6G II lens. Processed from two shots combined manually into an HDR in GIMP, and processed in Photoscape.

The setting sun hid behind St. Nicholas’s chapel whose most prominent feature is the lofty, cross-shaped bell tower. Silhouettes of human figures are discerned outside, enjoying the idyllic view of the bay. The cloud-laden skies’ dominant colour is golden.

The chapel is located on St. Nicholas’s pier in Thessalonikē, Greece, where sailing ships are docked (Nautical Club).

Photograph reminiscent of William Blake’s poem lines:

That none did dare to enter in…”
