Saw this Golden Retriever named Scout at Barnes and Noble yesterday morning (July 28, 2019). She was in training to be a service dog.
Christchurch in Doncaster used to be the terminus for a whole host of local independent operators. Many names and identities were lost into the new SYPTE, and by the time this was taken in 1993 the bus stops around the church only saw Mainline B10Ms looping in and out on their way past. And sometimes it saw a Leon Fleetline parked up when I needed to nip home for an hour.
Seen on a Saturday afternoon, in the break between trips on the 191 and the start of the evening 152 service, ex GMPTE Fleetline 8049 keeps the candle burning for the Doncaster independent operator.
New in April 1968 to A1 SERVICE member James McKinnon of Kilmarnock this Leyland Atlantean PDR1/1 had bodywork by Northern Counties of Wigan to a design pioneered by Nottingham Corporation. It ran until February 1982, but was not actually sold until the September when it passed to Ayrshire operator Kerr of Galston. This view was taken in Ardrossan and the building in the background on the left was the Western SMT depot.

Thistle Line branded 63218 heads for Victoria Bridge on the 31. It has passed eighteen passengers standing waiting for a 3 to the City Centre at the bus stop by the industrial estate at Altens, the 31 service working off the 3 and leaving a large 22 min gap for passengers wanting a bus to the city.
With a local train comprising Bulleid Stock, Maunsell Q brings its train through the Sussex morning sunshine.
E402TBS was a Renault S56 / Alexander B25F purchased new by Highland Scottish as their fleetnumber Q402 in June 1988. On disposal it joined A1 Service in Ayrshire, and was captured in Kilwinning.

GTO798V was a Leyland Leopard PSU3E/4R / Duple Dominant II C53F new as Nottingham City Transport number 798 in February 1980. It was acquired by A1 Service member McMenemy of Ardrossan in February 1992, and was hastily pressed into service on the Glasgow express service. It would pass to Stagecoach with the business in January 1985 as their number L628. It later moved to Stagecoach Bluebird as their number 172, and was re-registered as 145CLT in August 1996. On disposal in October 1998 it passed to Reynolds Coaches of Watford as XAZ3155.
WCS195 was an AEC Regent V 2D3RA / Strachans H35/28RD purchased new by A1 Service members Hill & Paterson in August 1963. It remained until September 1976, when it passed to fellow member Andrew Hunter of Dreghorn and lasted another couple of years.
OCS345L was a Leyland Atlantean AN68/2R / Roe H78D new to A1 Service Member Docherty of Irvine in May 1973 . It later passed to Kerr's of Galston for school contracts.
AML88H was an AEC Swift 4MP2R / Park Royal B33D purchased new by London Transport as their SMS88 in April 1970. It was purchased by A1 Service Member Docherty of Irvine in September 1977 and remained in the fleet until May 1990 although mainly used on schools and contracts. It was captured working the Tesco contract as it climbs Chapelhill Mount in Ardrossan with the Firth of Clyde in the background. The bus was sold for preservation and achieved even more fame when Britbus made a model of it.

With the weekend at Swanage at and end, the journey home soon followed. However, taking the slower route proved the preferable option. At London Marylebone, Class 68 loco 68011 bathes in the morning sun, waiting with its stock to depart with the 10:02 Chiltern service to Birmingham Moor Street.
Avocado Heights, CA
Athens Services won the contract for the Avocado Heights franchise in January and began servicing the area on April 1st. Similar to WM in Santa Monica Mountains, they didn't have enough time to get new carts for the area in time for the start. Most residents still have their old WARE carts and we saw many around the neighborhood. I missed a picture of it but there was a cool turquoise WARE Rehrig in one area. Couple old carts that caught my eye were some old WMX carts from back in the open market days and some WARE carts that were spray painted into new colors (black -> green).
Anyway, looks like Athens rolled out new carts within the past week. Residents received new Rehrig EVs with different colored lids, something new to Athens. What's cool about these is that the logo is reflective, hence why they look rainbow colored in the picture. That's a county mandate for the contract, as people were crashing into carts in the early morning.
Not sure what truck collects the area but I think recycle is a fast driver based on the lid flips. Today was also the CCU for the area. Only saw a Heil RL and an LNG 320/Amrep. Not sure what else might've been used but they also had a clean up in Monterey Park so I'm curious if any other old stuff was used.
246AJF was a Leyland Titan PD3A/1 / Metro-Cammell H74R new to Leicester City Transport as 246 in September 1961. On disposal in 1975 it passed to A1 Service member JJ Stewart and remained in the fleet until August 1979. This view sees it passing through Irvine on it's way to Kilmarnock. Note that it had been fitted with platform doors. It was then purchased by keen collector of old A1 buses Keenan of Coalhall which is near Ayr. Keenan used it on school contracts. The number plate is still retained and has appeared on various Volvo coaches over the years.
The 757 runs alongside the 747 but running from Newtonhil and Portlethen then linking onto the AWPR from the Charleston link road. On the four occasions I have seen a 757 the bus has been empty. The service was introduced after feedback to NESTRANS in a survey that communities would like such a service linking Dyce and the Airport. It is one thing residents wanting such a service, it is another them actually use it. Realisticly unless you work at Dyce/Airport and the hourly service happens to work in with your work shift times how often does the average Portlethen resident actually travel to the Airport in a year.
Loger term there is probably more viability in the 747 and 757 being joined and running Montrose to Stonehaven then to Newtonhill and Portlethen and then to Aberdeen Airport before heading into Aberdeen via ARI to generate enough trade across the whole route.
E300 27797 approaches Craibstone P&R 14 minutes late for Aberdeen Airport when it should be heading towards Kingswells on the return journey. Two cars and one passenger (from the industrial estate) await at the P&R.
This isn't the best place for a photo as the setting sun reflects off the bus, also I appeared to have activated the sensor that turns the traffic light for Craibstone green for buses and it only changed back to red when the large queues of traffic on the link road from the Airport eventually drove through the light at red to turn it back.

Overexposed 2 1/3 stops and then processed to resemble Tri-X pushed to reasonable limits - all the better to hide dust collected on the bottle.
NCS25P was a Volvo Ailsa B55-10 / Alexander AV Type H79F purchased new by A1 Service member Docherty of Irvine in August 1976 and it remained in the fleet until the end of operations in January 1995. It would see further service with Leisurelink on the south coast. A1 members took eleven new Ailsa's between 1976 and 1979. NCS25P is shown leaving Kilmarnock bound for Ardrossan. Health and safety would have a fit nowadays if a bus drove with the doors open.
