Taken on a September morning while waiting for the gardens to open. The nursery was already bustling with activity, and in its own way was as interesting as the famous garden itself

I had visited Great Dixter in May, 2011, (see separate album):

We returned for the day in September, 2016, taking one of the frequent buses from Rye. It was gratifying to see that its current custodian, Fergus Garrett, who took over when Christopher Lloyd died in 2006, continues to innovate and improve the gardens and nursery, and to keep up the high standards of the plantings. while conducting numerous workshops and training a crop of new interns and students fro all over the world each year.

"Great Dixter was the family home of gardener and gardening writer Christopher Lloyd – it was the focus of his energy and enthusiasm and fuelled over 40 years of books and articles. Now under the stewardship of Fergus Garrett and the Great Dixter Charitable Trust, Great Dixter is an historic house, a garden, a centre of education, and a place of pilgrimage for horticulturists from across the world.

Great Dixter is made up of three houses, one built here in the mid-15th century with slightly later additions, the second a yeoman’s house from Benenden, across the border in Kent, built in the early 16th century and moved here in 1910, and the third combines the two with additional accommodation, completed in 1912. The medieval part of the house (Great Hall, Palour and Solar) is open to visitors from 2pm to 5pm during normal opening times. A guide is on hand in each room to explain the house’s history and answer questions."

September sometimes produces near perfect conditions at Sandwood on the west coast of Scotland. The midgies are largely gone, alongwith the klegs, whilst the tourists far fewer and the weather can be stunning. Admittedly the skylarks and other bird song are also gone together with the carpets of flowers and it is dark at 8 pm and not light until almost 12 hours later but the daytime can be warm and stunning. So it was on Saturday, with cliff to cliff sunshine all day and a weird sea fog drifting over the land, the stack and the small island, Am Balg, to add to the dazzle..

Korean maps published in the October 8, 1945 TIME. I just found this in an envelope with a letter I wrote home. Looking at it in the large size, my notes--some readable--bring memory details. I assume the maps are accurate. TIME and other magazines were published in special editions for the armed services.

For viewers interested in details of that era, I've placed

7th September 2020:

I was out again, the weather was lovely and I so want to make the most of it, before the rain sets in.

On my way home I went past the new house that has been built, but I noticed the flue from the top of the little lane.

It's also for my chimney collection and you can see the other here if you want to: www.flickr.com/photos/44506883@N04/albums/72157715372579082

Dartmouth visit, 25 September 2021.

This is the 'PS Kingswear Castle', built in 1924 in Dartmouth for cruises in and around the Dart Estuary. One of three sister ships, it was constructed by Philip & Sons of Dartmouth, and used the engines out of a 1904 vessel of the same name, the hulk of which is still in the river. Here this beautiful vessel has not long departed the quay at Dartmouth and is heading up the tidal River Dart on a 90 minute cruise. Kingswear provides the backdrop.

After service to the US Navy during World War 2, ferrying staff and materials around the River Dart, it resumed its cruise duties until withdrawal in 1965. Two years later it passed into the ownership of the Paddle Steamer Preservation Society who, after many trials and tribulations, took it back onto the water in 1985. Based at Chatham Historic Dockyard she cruised around the area until in December 2012 a return was made to the River Dart, where it remains today, chartered to the Dartmouth Steam Railway and Riverboat Company.

The 130 HP engine was built by Cox of Falmouth and the vessel is now unique in the UK as a coal-fired paddle steamer.

Hey, That's No Way to Say Goodbye

I loved you in the morning, our kisses deep and warm

Your hair upon the pillow, like a sleepy golden storm

Yes, many loved before us, I know that we are not new

In city and in forest they smiled like me and you

But now it′s come to distances and both of us must try

Your eyes are soft with sorrow

Hey, that's no way to say goodbye

I′m not looking for another as I wander in my time

Walk me to the corner, our steps will always rhyme

You know, my love goes with you as your love stays with me

It's just the way it changes, like the shoreline and the sea

But let's not talk of love or chains and things we can′t untie

Your eyes are soft with sorrow

Hey, that′s no way to say goodbye

I loved you in the morning, our kisses deep and warm

Yes, many loved before us, I know that we are not new

To honor the firefighters, police and paramedics, heroes who gave their lives to rescue people trapped in the World Trade Center Towers after the terror attacks of 09-11-2001, firefighters from several local fire departments in the Atlanta area, most in full gear, and police, hiked to the top of Stone Mountain in Georgia.

I had hoped to spend the majority of my free time between tasks today following the raising the Costa Concordia instead I ended up following yet another tragedy; this time in Washington at the Navy Yard.

How horrifying for those people who were there. Can you imagine being trapped in such a situation? I really can't, and maybe that's why I'm glued to the news when these events occur.

Fortunately my boss has a TV in his office and didn't mind that I turned the volume up so I could hear the updates as the day went on. I feel for those people who had to experience that today, and really feel for those who don't have loved ones coming home from work today.

What a way to start the week.

I hope everyone had a decent day in spite of the events.

On a cooler, sunny day following several days of dry weather, some friends and I set out to find hellbenders. Upon arriving, we encountered a group doing a formal survey for hellbenders, and they were kind enough to let us tag along. After parting ways, we eventually met up again. One of our group noticed this salamander sitting in the rocks of a deeper pool, and we were able to photograph the animal.

Edition 38 Festival - September 2010

Canon 450D with Canon 50mm EF ƒ1.8 mk2 lens

This year we decided to go back to Overstone Park in Northampton to check out this year's Edition 38 festival. There were some really nice cars in the show, and parked around it, to drool at. Some of which have been featured in various magazines throughout the year so it was quite cool to get the chance to see some in the flesh. Anyway, I took some photographs and decided to upload these ones.

Out of the hospital and some time behind me to heal. With my wife's permission I was allowed to enjoy a few more chase days before the storm season ended. We get this small opportunity in the month of September for severe weather and I wasn't going to miss a beat.

Severe storms now starting to form just to the southwest of South Central Nebraska. Warnings were already issued for 4 counties south of us and it was building and moving my way.

Since I haven't been out in close to a month, I packed up all the gear and went out early to catch some beautiful light and bubbling thunderheads before before the show...

1st September 2017:

Went out as soon as I could for what I hoped would be an enjoyable walk. It started off OK and then the weather turned.

The sun then made another try until we had a downpour. I put my Lumix back into it's bag and tucked my Fuji under my cardigan while I sheltered under a rather small plant growing in a wall!

I looked at all the photos I'd taken and nothing really stood out, so I just used this one because I love Trumpet Vines and liked how it came out. SOOC.
