The Heinkel He 111, a German twin-engined medium bomber, was used extensively in the late 1930s and early years of the Second World War. Like many Luftwaffe military aircraft, its pre-war development was concealed by claiming it was for high-speed commercial transport.

A walk through my yard yielded a number of signs of September coming to a close; iris seed pods, hemlock cones, queen anne's lace curling up, acorns, hollyhock pods and field grass to name just a few...

Back in September. I managed to get the chance to go and try and take images of Badgers. As you can see, lady luck was on my side.
Badgers are short-legged omnivores in the family Mustelidae (which also includes the otters, wolverines, martens, minks, polecats, weasels, and ferrets). Badgers are a polyphyletic rather than a natural taxonomic grouping, being united by their squat bodies and adaptions for fossorial activity. All belong to the caniform suborder of carnivoran mammals.
The fifteen species of mustelid badgers are grouped in four subfamilies: four species of Melinae (genera Meles and Arctonyx) including the European badger, five species of Helictidinae (genus Melogale) or ferret-badger, the honey badger or ratel Mellivorinae (genus Mellivora), and the American badger Taxideinae (genus Taxidae). Badgers include the most basal mustelids; the American badger is the most basal of all, followed successively by the ratel and the Melinae; the estimated split dates are about 17.8, 15.5 and 14.8 million years ago, respectively.
The two species of Asiatic stink badgers of the genus Mydaus were formerly included within Melinae (and thus Mustelidae), but more recent genetic evidence indicates these are actually members of the skunk family (Mephitidae).
Badger mandibular condyles connect to long cavities in their skulls, which gives resistance to jaw dislocation and increases their bite grip strength. This in turn limits jaw movement to hinging open and shut, or sliding from side to side, but it does not hamper the twisting movement possible for the jaws of most mammals.
Badgers have rather short, wide bodies, with short legs for digging. They have elongated, weasel-like heads with small ears. Their tails vary in length depending on species; the stink badger has a very short tail, while the ferret-badger's tail can be 46–51 cm (18–20 in) long, depending on age. They have black faces with distinctive white markings, grey bodies with a light-coloured stripe from head to tail, and dark legs with light-coloured underbellies. They grow to around 90 cm (35 in) in length including tail.
The European badger is one of the largest; the American badger, the hog badger, and the honey badger are generally a little smaller and lighter. Stink badgers are smaller still, and ferret-badgers are the smallest of all. They weigh around 9–11 kg (20–24 lb), while some Eurasian badgers weigh around 18 kg (40 lb).

The Beach ...
This shot of an extremely overcast day last summer at Jack Darling Park; the sky was brooding and rain was in the forecast. the daylight was strained through the heavy cloud cover, giving everything a dull muted tone and making the blue highlights in the clouds cast a moody glow on the entire scene. A nice day for a long walk along the beach stepping over rocks and washed up pieces of driftwood..

MAGIC: Magnificent Aerial Gratitude Inspiring Capture - Tampa Bay Sunset Late September - IMRAN®
This is a two photo panorama of a magnifiecent dusk captured by my several years old DJI Mini 3 Pro drone which I have not had time to fly in quite a while. Nor have I even had time to share what I have captured. I pulled this from the memory card after yesterday's afternoon flight. This moment of infinite gratiude at Maghreb prayer tim was captured on 23rd September, 2025 just before 8:30 PM (before the moronic time change exercise of daylight savings kicked in).

In early September the verdant growth around the pond almost hides the water from view. The soft pink of the hemp agrimony flowers harmonises well with the misty atmosphere around the pond in Witcombe Valley, giving a dream-like impression.
September 07, 2019 - While my wife had to work, I decided to visit Northeast Park for some different pictures this evening. As I was walking, this butterfly swooped down and landed right in front of me on the trail.
The Age Of The Forest..
This past weekend we spent a day exploring The Credit river as it flows south from Cataract Falls to Brimstone;
At the top of a steep hill is a large tree in a small clearing. there is now ay to get far enough back to get a good shot of just how big it was. but you could see by its sheer immenseness it has been there for centuries. undisturbed by the world around it.

ODC-September
When the last month of summer ends which I think August is, then it's time to start thinking about Autumn. It is my favourite time of year and that means time to get out the decorations. I've started by getting myself a lovely new and very colourful tablecloth that celebrates the change in the season with pumpkins, corn and fall fruits.
September 6th. I had this idea all week, to try the triple combi of white (365), transportation (52) and 'in motion' for the glass slipper group. But I had no idea how or when I was going to do it. And then I had to drive to launceston and back in very peculiar weather (it has hailed rocks this evening!). During a patch of sun I pulled into a lay by to try some panning shots. But alas, I had not taken the proper cameras. So, I phone on slow shutter app to the rescue and half an hour of taking pictures of white vehicles! This one was one of the few that actually panned out ok (pun intended). It's speedy white van man

Well, the weather forecast for Kananaskis for 24 September 2019 was not exactly accurate - sun, with cloud in the afternoon. They kind of forgot to mention the strong wind, light rain .... and SNOW! For a few minutes, it was one kind of weather, then a few more minutes of a different kind, repeated throughout the afternoon.
Our temperatures are falling - forecast for rain/light snow today, then three days of snow with temps down to around -1C. What a way to celebrate the first few days of fall. The expected snow will probably remove quite a few of the golden leaves, so I wanted anther chance to see and photograph them while I had the chance.
The sky was blue when I set out that morning and I felt quite hopeful. When I go to Kananaskis, I always go south from the city. I had no idea where I would be going, but I knew that it wouldn't be as far as I would have liked. As it turned out, I had a few surprises along the way, so it was a real mixed day of photo opportunities - my favourite kind of day.
After stopping to take a few scenic shots on the way to the main highway through Kananaskis, I eventually reached the area where the American Pikas live. I really lucked out almost straight away, as the only few photos I took were when one Pika showed itself, and that was within maybe ten minutes. By this time, the wind was strong and it was snowing, and it was cold! Time to get out of there, as the scree slope is treacherous enough on a calm, clear day.
Driving further north, I was delighted to see a convoy of maybe eight or ten beautiful old cars heading in my direction. Couldn't resist, so I followed them when they turned off into a small picnic area. I asked if I could take a few quick photos and they were happy enough for me to do that. One car owner did comment about blurry photos because of the falling snow, but surprisingly my photos came out sharp enough.
Further on, I made a quick stop at another pull-off and was happy to notice a few mushrooms. When I turned around to head for home, I was even happier. I pulled over to take a photo of one of the mountain peaks. One tiny white speck in the distance, just off the road, caught my eye. When I went to check it out, I found myself staring at a little group of Shaggy Mane/Inky Cap mushrooms. The largest one had already started the process of curling up the rim of its cap and dripping a black ink. So much rain this year has resulted in such an amazing fungi season.
Much closer to home, I decided to take a side road that has such beautiful hill and mountain views. An old wooden barn was a welcome surprise - I don't remember seeing this one before.
So, a lovely day out, driving 320 km, with such a mixture of weather and sightings. So glad I did decide to go - as usual, a very last minute decision, but basically, I just need to grab my cameras and go : )
September 27th 2015 at 8.36pm, the full "Supermoon" finally rose above the clouds to reveal a blood moon beginning to reflect sunlight again.
A full supermoon full eclipse is a rare event which will not happen again until 2033.

(Behind-the-scene: Went to do some side-work today. As I was leaving the facility, I stopped and looked at the pot where I captured this. And then I turned and saw this! I knew exactly what I wanted.
