home / clear / late sun / floral / 2025 The phrase "death of red rose only last till spring" suggests a rose looks dead in winter but revives in spring due to dormancy, often appearing brown/dark but with green underneath the bark, though true death from winterkill is possible and requires waiting to check for green growth or dealing with disease/pests like black spot to bring it back to life. A rose that's truly dead won't show green when you scratch its canes, but many that look awful in winter are just dormant and will bounce back with new growth and blooms after spring pruning and care.

I normally prefer a faster shutter speed, but here I slowed it down to get a sense of motion in the wings. It was a beautiful night of autumn light on the mother loon from my Yak.
