It's the GCR September diesel gala this weekend. I was helping out at Lovatt House (out of sight of any trains!) all morning but on my way home I called into Quorn & Woodhouse station for 30 minutes to watch the action.
The 5305 Locomotive Association's 1Co-Co1 Peak diesel D123 speeds non-stop through the Up platform with the TPO train.
The signal on the platform alongside the cab is quite unusual - it's a mechanical colour light which controls the crossover to the Down line beyond the over bridge.

September 28 morning had the bright aurora and annoying clouds, Right after I took this photo I went down the road to the Carstairs house.
Van 20 tot en met 27 september 2009 werd onder het motto ‘Reisen wie vor 50 Jahren’ een drietal jubilea gevierd: 150 jaar Nahetalbahn, 20 jaar Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Neckar en 10 jaar Rhein-Nahe-Nahverkehrsverbund. Het evenement was een mengvorm van een ‘Dampfspektakel’ zoals er tussen 2000 en 2018 in totaal zes in de deelstaat Rheinland Pfalz zijn georganiseerd en een klassieke ‘Plandampf’, met een financiële bijdrage van de spoorwegliefhebbers. Het evenement werd hoofdzakelijk gefinancierd door de twee jubilerende Verkehsverbünde en het Zweckverband Schienenpersonennahverkehr Rheinland-Pfalz Süd en werd uitgevoerd door Revierdampf. Het streven was zoveel als mogelijk het spoorwegbedrijf ter plaatse van 1959 na te bootsen. Dat ging zelf zo ver dat locomotieven werden aangepast en vernummerd naar locomotieven die in 1959 in deze omgeving rondreden. Loc 01 066 van het Bayerische Eisenbahnmuseum verloor haar klassieke uiterlijk en nummer en werd een DB-01 met het nummer 01 045. Loc 38 1301 van de ÖGEG werd weliswaar uiterlijk niet aangepast, maar wel vernummerd in 38 3156. Het zwaartepunt van de activiteiten lag op de lijn Neustadt an der Weinstraße via Mannheim en Heidelberg naar Heilbronn en ‘zijlijnen’, maar op zondag 20 september was de beurt aan de Nahetalbahn (Bad Kreuznach naar Saarbrücken). Er werd vanuit Bad Kreuznach tot Baumholder gereden. In het station van Bad Kreuznach wacht loc 01 066 (als 01 045) op de dingen die komen gaan.
Vom 20. bis zum einschließlich den 27. September 2009 wurden nach dem Motto ‚Reisen wie vor 50 Jahren‘ drei Jubiläen gefeiert: 150 Jahre Nahetalbahn, 20 Jahre Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Neckar und 10 Jahre Rhein-Nahe-Nahverkehrsverbund. Die Veranstaltung war eine Mischung von einem ,Dampfspektakel‘, sowie diese zwischen 2000 und 2018 im Bundesland Rheinland Pfalz insgesamt sechsmal organisiert worden sind und einen klassischen ‚Plandampf‘, mit Solidarbeitrag der Eisenbahnfreunde. Die Veranstaltung wurde hauptsächlich von den zwei jubilierenden Verkehrsverbünden finanziert, so wie auch vom Zweckverband Schienenpersonennahverkehr Rheinland-Pfalz Süd . Ausgeführt wurde es vom Revierdampf. Das Bestreben war es so viel wie möglich den Eisenbahnbetrieb Vorort des Jahres 1959 nach zu bilden. Damit ging mal sogar so weit das Lokomotiven angepasst und um nummeriert wurden nach Lokomotiven die in 1959 in dieser Umgebung herumfuhren. Die Lok 01 066 des Bayerischen Eisenbahnmuseum verlor ihr klassisches Aussehen und wurde eine DB-01 mit der Nummer 01 045. Lok 38 1301 der ÖGEG wurde äußerlich zwar nicht angepasst, aber erhielt die Betriebsnummer 38 3256. Das Schwerpunkt der Aktivitäten war auf der Eisenbahnstrecke von Neustadt an der Weinstraße über Mannheim und Heidelberg nach Heilbronn und ‚Zufuhrstrecken‘, aber am Sonntag den 20. September war die Nahetalbahn (Bad Kreuznach nach Saarbrücken) an der Reihe. Es wurde von Bad Kreuznach bis Baumholder gefahren. Im Bahnhof Bad Kreuznach wartet die Lok 01 066 (als 01 145) die weiteren Ereignisse des Tages ab.

Op de verrassend zonnige zaterdag 18 september stonden er een aantal leuke treinen gepland op de Bentheimerlijn en daarnaast zou 's avonds de SSN met haar 01 1075 en een zestal rijtuigen een klein rondje maken van Rotterdam via Breda en Roosendaal terug naar Rotterdam. Als eerste stond RRF op de planning die met de 4402 een keteltrein vanaf IJsselmonde via Brabant naar Bad Bentheim zou brengen. In eerste instantie wilde ik een stek aandoen tussen Deventer en Bad Bentheim, maar doordat bekend werd dat IRP vroeg op de middag de Coevorden-Shuttle vanaf Coevorden via Almelo richting Rotterdam zou rijden werd besloten om net zoals woensdag Barneveld te bezoeken. Uiteindelijk was dit maar goed ook want RRF had al enige vertraging opgelopen waardoor Barneveld de laatste locatie vóór Almelo was waar de trein nog goed voor de zon reed. Aangezien ik woensdag al twee plaatjes had gemaakt vanaf de voetgangersbrug bij Barneveld Noord vond ik het nu maar eens tijd om voor het eerst de Nijkerkerweg te bezoeken zodat ik ook die stek van mijn lijstje kon afstrepen.
Aangezien ik van tevoren niet wist hoe laat RRF vanaf IJsselmonde zou vertrekken besloot ik al vrij vroeg te vertrekken uit Oss zodat ik niet het risico zou lopen om de trein te missen. Zodoende arriveerde ik tegen 10:00 te Barneveld waar al een aantal andere fotografen aanwezig waren. Terwijl we geduldig aan het afwachten waren werd RRF tegen 10:20 pas gemeld in Dordrecht Zuid en al snel kregen we te horen dat de trein een uur zou halteren in Amersfoort wat voor ons funest zou zijn omdat de trein dan te laat in Barneveld zou passeren in verband met de zonnestand. Gelukkig werd deze stop geschrapt waardoor RRF dus wel op tijd voor ons zou passeren in Barneveld maar het zou geen halfuur later moeten zijn geweest want de zon begon al vrij haaks te staan.
Na zo'n tweeënhalfuur wachten komt dan eindelijk om 12:28 de RRF 4402 voorbij de vier fotografen gereden te Harselaar bij Barneveld. Met op sleeptouw een beladen keteltrein is de trein vanuit IJsselmonde onderlangs onderweg richting Bad Bentheim alwaar daar de trein door het Poolse Lotos wordt overgenomen. Met het feit dat RRF bijna niet meer haar 4400'en inzet (De RRF 4401 heeft dit jaar pas één keer gereden) ben ik als liefhebber van de Nèz-Cassé locomotieven erg blij deze foto te hebben kunnen maken. De 4402 rijdt gelukkig nog wel sporadisch een trein en hopelijk blijft dat nog even zo!

This is one of more post-processed photos I've done, but I think I'm fairly happy with the end result. I think the processing really suits the quote I had in mind when I was taking this photo.
Finally, it's my Friday. This has been one of those weeks that would have been better spent at home and away from the world I work in. I'm very thankful for the 3 day break.

Ik vond deze in Zuid-Denemarken, terwijl hij dus eigenlijk niet in Scandinavië hoort te zijn...:)) (zie onder)
Zwarte toorts (Verbascum nigrum) is een plant die behoort tot de helmkruidfamilie (Scrophulariaceae). De soort komt overal in Europa voor, behalve in Scandinavië, Schotland en Ierland. In Nederland komt de zwarte toorts vrij algemeen voor.
Het is een kruidachtige plant die 60-150 cm lang kan worden. De plant bloeit van juni tot eind september met gele bloemen en violette meeldraden. De plant bloeit over de gehele lengte van de bloemstengel en niet van onder naar boven of omgekeerd. De vrucht is een tweehokkige doosvrucht. In een gram zaad zitten ongeveer 8300 zaden.

The area's mining history dates to at least 1897.

Graham and I had been discussing whether or not to leave the new blue chairs out over the Autumn/Winter yesterday evening.
In the end we decided that getting the elastic wet, maybe constantly, wouldn't do it much good, so this morning we folded them up and put the ordinary garden chairs in their place.
It doesn't look half as good out there and we already miss our comfy seats, but we can look forward to getting them back out there in the Spring.
