In September 2016 a Plandampf event was scheduled. This time the 01 2066-7, the 50 0072-4, the 50 3501-9 numbered as 50 1380-0 and the 50 3648-8 came into action with passenger trains and goods trains. The third day, the focus lay on the line to Themar. Three loco's came into action this day: the 50 1380-0, the 50 348-8 and the 01 2066-7. The line between Eisenach and Meiningen was 'standard' again and some interesting pictures could be made.

Saturday 12th September 2009, will remain in my memory for a very long time, and when ever I think of this day, it will bring a lump to my throat and fond memories.

This day saw the launch of “Stagecoach Gold”, which is the newly revised service 94, linking the beautiful cities of Gloucester and Cheltenham. Stagecoach in the South West has always arranged great running days, and today was no exception. There were RE’s, VR’s and FLF’s linking Gloucester and Cheltenham, and we had 25 degree sunshine!

I was fortunate enough to be able to lend my driving prowess to a few very good friends, and I give thanks to Rob Sly for allowing me a circuit with 5031 (Cheltenham NBC Leaf Green Dual Door VR) on the 80, and thanks to Jason for allowing me a short play with his National 2 B.

I must mention and give special thanks to Mike Ede and the Stroud RE group, for asking me to collect one of their beloved RE’s from Gloucester Bus Station at the end of its Duties, take it to the depot in Gloucester, get her fuelled and then have the “Honour and Pleasure” of driving her out of Gloucester Depot, back to Stroud Depot to drop off another driver and then take her back to the yard. Another fantastic day and one to savour and remember forever!

I am writing this and listening to “Land of Hope and Glory” on the TV, whilst watching the “last night of the Proms”, and I can feel myself getting emotional. Here’s to lots more fantastic days like this with my best mate Mark, and with lots of very good friends making a good day into an unforgettable one!

This location is along the line giving access to Utrecht Maliebaan, which is home to the Dutch railway museum. Regular trains are operated on opening days with SLT trainsets, but occasionally you might find heritage trains like is the case here. This location is best accessed by bike from station Utrecht Centraal.

i know many of you are in autumn but us folks here in manila are still going through a wee bit of the typhoon season.

ipu ipo is the tagalog (most widely used dialect in the philippines) term for cyclone / tornado. BUT... i don't think this is and i guess it must just be a really heavy down pour. this was taken on one of the rainiest weeks i can remember. had a friend over that day so you can check out his version of this post apocalyptic scene. mind you, his version was taken with the nikon d700-one of the most amazing camera's i have ever held with my oily paws. you can also compare the colors and details that the sensor picks up between my teeny weeny canon g7 and the machine gun full frame nikon d700.

Last September Suzane was visiting Houston on business and applied to the Houston Covergirls for membership. She also wanted to go out on the town with some local T-girls and visit a transformation salon if we had one. I referred her to Vanity for the later, and her photostream has pix of that session. See: www.flickr.com/photos/suzane-o12-08/sets/72157622401152358/ . I couldn't see her because it was Leslie Anne's last weekend before a long business trip to Africa.

Several months ago, Suzane said she would be coming to Houston on business. I told her to come the first weekend in May and attend the biggest TG event of the year.

Suzane has my permission to use these five photos taken of her at Unity 2010 for her own Flickr site.

Sunday 20th September 1987 and 7200 seen as stored in the open at Buckinghamshire Railway Centre.

This locomotive was built by The Great Western Railway at Swindon Works in 1930 as a 2-8-0T of Class 5205. It was originally intended for use on fairly short haul heavy coal trains like many running in the South Wales Valleys. However the depression in the 1930 reduced the demand for coal making many of these locomotives surplus to requirements and to be put in store when new or nearly new. In order to increase the versatility of these locomotives a number were rebuilt with extended bunkers and a trailing bogie which increased their range and saw them back in traffic again. 7200 emerged from Swindon works in this form in 1934.

7200 was withdrawn in in July 1963 and sold to Woodham Brothers for scrap arriving at their yard at Barry Docks in November of that year. Its sale to Woodhams proved its salvation as that company cut up very few of the many locomotives it acquired. In September 1981 after languishing there for almost 18 years it left Barry for preservation at the Buckingham Railway Centre. For many years it was outside and mothballed as lack of finances and manpower prevented any serious restoration work. However work to return it to an operational condition is now proceeding although there is still a long way to go. The locomotive is now 86 years old and last worked 53 years ago. Hopefully it will not be too long before we can see her back in steam.

On September 2010, a khachkar-cross stone monument commemorating Armenian orphans killed during the Armenian Genocide was inaugurated in the cemetery of Antur's St. Joseph college in Lebanon. The orphanage was headed by Jemal Pasha, one of the architects of the Armenian Genocide, and Turkey's first feminist Halide Edip Adivar. They forced Armenian children to change their names, adopt the Mohammedan faith and severely punished those who spoke Armenian inside the orphanage. By the UN Convention, this was one of the first signs of children's ethnic cleansing. One of the orders of Talat Pasha, a prominent leader of the Young Turk movement, demanded that all Armenians living in the Ottoman Empire be taken out of cities and slaughtered. Armenian children were burnt, poisoned and strangled. Hundreds of thousands of children became orphans and were forced to change their belief. A documentary entitled "Genocide Orphans" has been shot in the USA portraying the life of the Antura orphanage.

WATCHMAN OFFICIAL OPENING OF NEW HALL

The morning of Saturday, September 18th heralded a beautiful day for the auspicious ceremony of opening the Watchman Public Hall.

Some time before the ceremony commenced a large crowd representing many districts and towns had assembled.

In introducing the Hon R L Butler, Mr Spillane (president of the Watchman Public Hall) said it was a red-letter day for Watchman and though the project was only recent the hall would be opened free of debt. He further stated that Watchman was in a central position, both of South Australia and of many prosperous districts, and that the committee and he wished to convey their thanks to the splendid support given by those districts in all matters concerning Watchman. Before asking Mr Butler to declare the hall open, he wished the Honourable Member to accept in appreciation and esteem of his attendance a token—a gold key.

Mr R Butler said he congratulated the people on doing something great. He believed when the people did something the representative and the government should help in some. way. Some depended on the government too much. He further stated that the hall would be a great benefit both to the young and to the old. The young will enjoy using it while their elders will enjoy in helping the enjoyment of the young ones. The hall would be greatly appreciated, and he had much pleasure in declaring the hall open.

People in attendance took the opportunity of inspecting the interior of the hall and of purchasing numerous articles from the tastefully decorated stalls.

The produce stall was decorated in orange and pink, with suspended balloons. The funds were in aid of the kings of football and sports.

Those assisting were Mrs Bigg (convenor), Mrs G Veitch, and Miss J Barr.

Afternoon Tea was in aid of the kings of Tennis, Children, Farmers, and Watchman. Those assisting were Mesdames Sires and Hoepner (conveners), Plueckhahn, Spillane, Smith, Wilson, F. Cavanagh, C. Veitch, Walters, Misses E. Spillane, D. Sires, I. Gates.

The afternoon passed quickly, with the spectators' attention directed among the football and other various competitions.

High Tea was served in the hall.

In the evening a well-chosen concert was presented to a full house with many people unable to gain admittance. Mr Spillane heartily thanked the performers for their services. He also complimented Mr Schulz in carrying out the contract in such an efficient and reasonable manner.

Dancing followed. The president, the ladies' and gents' committee, the helpers are to be congratulated on their efforts for the fine success obtained. Thus ended one of the most memorable and successful days of Watchman. [Ref: Wooroora Producer 23-9-1926]

Successful Fancy Dress Ball

The Watchman Hall Committee held their Annual Fancy Dress Ball on September 18th in the Watchman Public Hall: the ball was the best held since the hall was opened. The Melody Makers provided the music, which was enjoyed by all. Mr H Bigg ably carried out the duties of MC and the ladies of the Hall Committee provided an excellent supper. There were many in fancy dress and the judges, Mr and Mrs A P Anderson and Mr and Mrs McLaurin of Halbury, found it very difficult to decide the winners. The best dressed lady Mrs T Belling (Eastern Lady); best dressed man, Mr J Jennings (Indian); best home made women's dress was won by Miss K. Saint (Dresden China); best ditto mens, Miss Monica Conley (Schoolboy) this prize was presented by Mr E Diekman. The schoolboy was very amusing throughout the evening.

Mr J Spillane on behalf of the Hall Committee, thanked all who helped to make the evening such a success. [Ref: Wooroora Producer 25-9-1930]

BALL MARKS 21st ANNIVERSARY OF WATCHMAN HALL OPENING

Just 21 years ago — on September 18, 1926, the Watchman Hall, financed by public subscription, was officially declared open, and on Thursday last, September 18, the latest anniversary of the event was celebrated by a well-attended ball arranged by the Hall committee and the Hall Ladies' committee. President of the former since its inception is Mr Jas Spillane, and the present secretary Mr F Wilson is the successor to Messrs J P L Hoepner and later, Mr Harry Bigg.

MC for dancing was Mr Lance Spillane, and Kiely's band (Miss Agnes Kiely, Mr M Hallion and Mr Dean Underwood) supplied the music. Novelty dance winners were Mr and Mrs W Sires, and Mr L Wilson and Miss Joan Bakes. Mrs Ivor Newton and Mr F Wilson won the euchre tournament.

After the fine supper (provided by the ladies), Mr L Spillane asked Mr Jas Spillane to address the gathering, and in complying, the Hall Committee president briefly sketched the history of the enterprise, and then asked Mrs F G Cavanagh and Miss Ethel Spillane (president and secretary respectively of the Ladies' Committee) to co-operate in cutting the birthday cake (iced by Mrs J W Curtis), and lighting and blowing out the 21 candles which surmounted it. A great tribute to the manner in which her Committee tackled all jobs met with was paid by Mrs Cavanagh who then, on behalf of the committee generally, wished their secretary (Miss E Spillane) many happy returns of the day, and handed over, as a birthday gift an acceptable brush and comb set. Miss Spillane suitably responded as soon as she had recovered from the surprise gesture.

Takings amounted to £7/12/-. [Ref: Producer 25-9-1947]
