On 5 November 2010, a concrete mixer went over the edge of a bridge over the railway line near Oxshott railway station, landing on the 3:05pm South West Trains service from Guildford to London Waterloo. The train was formed of two Class 455 units, 455 741 and 455 913. The end of the roof of the sixth carriage was severely crushed. Further damage was sustained to the fifth and sixth, seventh and eighth carriages, with the latter being derailed at its trailing bogie, although the train remained upright. Unit 455 913 was repaired at Wolverton works and returned to service in July 2013. It has been fitted with an ex Class 210 driving vehicle which has been converted to an intermediate vehicle whilst retaining its original number of 67301. Original vehicle 62838 was damaged beyond repair in the accident.

Kerrio, the smallest orphan at the time, came in from the bush and received her bottle before the other orphans. Naleku and Kindani, mini matriarchs, are very protective of her and came right over to her to make sure she was fine. Sometimes they do not "share" Kerrio and want her for themselves. These are some of the orphans who are being raised at the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust's Nairobi Nursery. The nursery is where the orphaned baby elephants are initially brought to be raised among other orphans as well as by their amazing keepers. They remain in the nursery until they are old enough and ready to move up to one of the Reintegration units where they will eventually return to the wild. The SWT has a wonderful foster program where you can "adopt" an orphan (or two) www.sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/
