The new Mayor Of London is another old etonian clown.

Of all the canyons traversed by the Rio Grande Zephyr, Gore Canyon was arguably the most spectacular. Viewed from Inspiration Point, Train 17 works its way west on the Moffatt line.

Cindy looks so elegant, joyous and charming in her orange ball gown. What a gorgeous young lady; she is truly spectacular!

Thank you Cindy for posing in your wonderful satin gown, and thank you Andrew for picking this week's orange colour theme. With the help of friends creating beauty becomes even more fun :-)

Little Austinmer features this fantastic gorge, into which seawater spills furiously after it travels across the flat rockshelf after being dumped by large breakers just off the coast.

Being in this place, seeing and feeling the power of the overflow, and capturing it to preserve a record of its beauty, is a fine way to spend a Monday morning.

Wednesday, 2 February 2022: our temperature was -23°C (windchill -34°C) at 11:00 am this morning. Sunrise was at 8:11 am and sunset was at 5:29 pm.

Back to posting a few photos from my archives, as I don't have any new images to share. Hoping to maybe get out of the city one more time before next week, when workmen will be around to fix any roof spot damage, gutters, drainpipes, windows, and screens. The email I received today said that this work is insurance repairs - from the last major hail storm? I have no idea what, if any, damage was made to the roof of my building. After having workmen carrying out repairs for exactly five months in 2021, this was not an email notice that was welcomed. However, repairs are supposed to take just a few days, and need to be done. Hopefully, it won't snow again before 8 February. I am adding the description that I wrote under a different image taken on the same outing.

"Yesterday morning, 30 June 2019, I woke up earlier than usual. Once I was on my computer, I checked the weather forecast and saw raindrop icons in the forecast for the next week, but yesterday was for sun. I knew what I had to do! Luckily, I had a tank full of gas, so I grabbed both cameras and a snack or two, and headed out the door. I must be the only person who hadn't been to Kananaskis recently and taken photos of the tiny Pikas (Rock Rabbits), and that was my destination.

This is a long weekend for Canada Day, and my plan had been to keep off the roads, as I was sure they would be busy, making it more difficult to stop whenever I wanted, to take a photo or two. However, when I saw the weather forecast, it changed my mind. Sunshine, blue sky with clouds, made it a perfect day to be out - I'm sure you agreed, Bonnie : )

A day in Kananaskis is always great, but sometimes 'great' turns out to be fantastic! Can't believe how lucky I was, not just in the mountains, but on the journey there and, at the end of the day, calling in at my 'usual' area closer to home.

I suspect the Pika is most people's favourite - around 6 inches long and almost impossible to see against the mountainside of broken rocks that are the same colour as the Pika's fur. Starting to believe that maybe I was going to be out of luck, the first one appeared, racing in and out and over and between the endless, sharp rocks. Take your eyes off the animal and you stand a good chance of not being able to find it again. Then a second one appeared, a baby. It perched itself on top of this rock and simply stayed there for a few minutes. Several of my photos show the eyes closing slightly. However, eventually it did move, and off it went. When it appeared not too far away, I caught sight of it and thought at first it was a mouse, ha. So tiny!

While I was searching for a Pika, a herd of Bighorn Sheep had come down the massive mountain side and, as they usually do, gathered right in the middle of the road to lick salt left by vehicles. After quite a time, there was an almighty BOOM that startled me and a handful of others. We hadn't noticed a Park's truck arrive, armed with 'bangers' to make the Sheep move from the road. Once the Park's person had left, the Sheep returned to the road. There were several young ones along with the females.

It will take me ages to go through my photos, especially having to combine two cameras, but lots of images can wait till winter. More important, to me, is to continue editing and posting the remaining Texas photos."

Comparison and relativity can make something special seem prosaic. There couldnʻt be a better example than the female Red-legged Honeycreeper. Males are a deep vibrant blue with an irridescent crest. I have seen females described as a “rather nondescriptive olive green.” Being unfamiliar with these birds, the first time I encountered them I did not realize they were the same species. Yet, I distinctly remember thinking how spectacular the two different birds were. Of her own right, the female Red-legged Honeycreeper is a fantastically beautiful bird. If I must say that she is nondescript in color, then I would say she is spectacularly, so. #RedLeggedHoneycreeper

This was an amazing morning! The clouds, creating such a silky reflection in the glass-like water, was such a joy to be a part of!

Hello Everyone!

Second post for today. Here is Beauty Secrets Christie wearing Spectacular Fashions 9146 from 1984.

Beauty Secrets Chrisite is by far my most favourite superstar era doll.

This spectacular double horn is fitted to a 1904 French-built de Dion Bouton. I must admit to not really being a car fan but I do like looking at some aspects, including in this instance the varieties of brass fittings and hood ornaments. This was the only double horn I saw on the cars on display.

There were some 40 veteran cars parked on Lower Regent Street on Saturday, when the Royal Automobile Club held an event in conjunction with the 125th running of the London-to-Brighton Veteran Car Run, which took place yesterday, 7 November 2021.

The car on which the horn was mounted had a tourer body and a four-cylinder 20-hp engine. The registration was GIG 1904.

What surprised me was the volume on the horns - considerably louder than a modern car horn at a distance of 3m for each, one of which was bass and one more baritone or tenor.

Sometimes, the sunsets are spectacular.

I thought the two names side-by-side would be funny. Totally missed the 'h' off and it's blurry as hell! Total crap - only uploaded for the Spectacular Crap pool, but seems you can't keep a good subject down!

EDIT: #197 in Explore. What a lovely Christmas pressie. Thanks Flickr! Seems that EVERYONE loves a silly sign!

Outside Juneau Alaska

A spectacular beginning for a new month, with the telltale lenticular clouds. This morning the wind started to pick up again, gusts up to 100km are in the forecast.

Ein farbenfreudiger Märzanfang mit den Föhnfischen die hier einen Windsturm voraussagen. Und heute Morgen windet es wieder; wir können Böen bis zu 100km erwarten.

Having just departed 473 from The Dome I decided to catch a photo. Here we see Brand new Lothian Bus 473 that has been brought in for the Highland seen here at Ingilston.
