There's nothing like rich volcanic soil for growing good veges, no exception these potatoes ("spuds" in local lingo) near Ohakune in the central north island of New Zealand. The mountain is Mt Ruapehu (2797m), an active volcano in the Tongariro National Park. Aside from being famous as Mordor in the Lord of the Rings films, the mountain is popular with locals and tourists alike for skiing, hiking and sightseeing (many visiting Lord of the Rings filming locations!).

Last weekend, we could visit a spectacular sunset just behind our house. I reduced saturation a little bit. So, the colors are not exaggerated.

Fall finally came in north Texas after Thanksgiving when leaves changed color suddenly. Late fall around here, I still have plants blooming in my yard.

Sunset on The Dalles, Columbia River Gorge.

Taken during the recent photoworkshop with Adrian Klein and Kevin McNeal.

No HDR - processed the RAW file and boosted contrast a bit. Shot just before sunset with the sun behind me. The winds were blowing fiercely so shot at ISO 1250 to keep the flowers still as possible.

January 12th Sunset. It was quite amazing with most of the sky painted in red

Taken on May 6, 2022 at 10:30 pm at Range Lake, in Yellowknife NWT Canada, in the Center of a residential area. There is a gas station directly behind me, homes off in the distance to the left and buildings peeking over the tree line to the right. Framed properly to avoid the structures, it gives the illusion of a wilderness location, while still in the heart of the city. Since it is still early spring here, if you look off in the distance, the lake is still partly covered with a layer of ice that is slowly melting as spring gives way. I opened the aperture wide opened in this one, as was looking to capture the foreground in detail with a bit of a dreamy look in the background - not sure I actually accomplished what I was looking for, but it seemed to work. Was filling with gas as I noticed the spectacular sunset overhead, grabbed my camera and made the best of the situation, considering I was still inside town limits. Sunset was at 10 pm so this is what people often call the second sunset that occurs about 30 minutes after sunset, as the sun dips below the horizon, lighting up the cloud cover overhead for about 10 minutes.

I have posted images of this building before (Vancouver House), but not from this perspective. It's such an unusual building that it seems I could shoot it many times and it would look different every time depending on where I was standing.

I often post my architectural images in black and white, but this one seemed to look better in colour.

The weather was very disturbed on the day of Moray's visit, but so spectacular!

Absolutely random, but very spectacular. When I tried to shoot a fireworks, I pushed the tripod and.....Voilà

This was taken on a road trip at the end of February while on a wee mini road trip to see the deer. Great to feel the weather warm up now. But these are the most spectacular falls - I've always loved them ever since I first saw them on the cover of a fishing book I had. Can't remember the name of the book though.

Grey Lake (Lago Grey) is a glacially fed lake in Torres del Paine National Park, in southern Chile.

Kites are large., powerful., Stunningly beautiful

And...

Arguably capable of unequalled aerobatics

For a photographer (even an amteur one like me) capturing that fact in a single shot represents something of a challenge

And just as a by-the-way., no this wasn't taken at any Kite feeding station

A spectacular view at the top of the Roche de Vergisson.

Very rocky but spectacular.

Spectacular Sunrise of Feb 1, 2017 with amazing colours and a sundog halo, and aviation contrails.

It was fully open this am, about 8" dia. There are a couple more coming out on the other side.

If this was any lower on the trunk I would not have been able to get this....I was flat out. I wish the 5DM3 had a tilt screen...

Hope everyone enjoyed a terrific Xmas day.

This image was taken at the Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba (World Heritage Site since 1984) in Andalucia, Spain. It is arguably one of the most significant monuments and one of the most amazing buildings in the western World. The complete evolution of the Omeyan style in Spain can be appreciated in its different sections, as well as the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles of the Christian part.

BTW, I wanted to take the opportunity to inform everyone that Flickr apparently no longer sends notifications to Yahoo mail accounts. I only receive notices regarding promotions by Flickr. As a result, it is impossible to track and reciprocate Faves. Sorry about that and happy holidays!

One block from the Pantheon. Worth a visit!

I started shooting tonight's sunset when it was "really pretty" and it kept getting redder and redder and was SO amazing! I wish I had been somewhere with no wires in sight! View On Black Wow...Explored at #106 Nov.15

Despite an area being dry and somewhat barren, a spectacular sunset will always beautify public BLM lands in North America. This was shot from public land in Utah with the Great Salt Lake visible in the distance.

So lucky to witness this stunning sunrise with nacreous clouds at Kinnaber beach this morning.

However, these polar stratospheric clouds are also indicators of toxic chemicals that break down ozone in the upper atmosphere (information from Torc Torr Ance via Facebook).
