After going to an event in San Francisco I went to the Sutro Heights Park near the Cliff House. This is the view to the south with the brightly lit Great Highway. I like the contrast of the golden tones and the dark blues.

I processed a paintery and a balanced HDR photo from a long exposure RAW image, and blended them to get this balanced look. I am happy with the composition and colors, but not with the unsharpness. I need to get a more sturdy tripod for windy conditions.

View from the Marin Headlands over the Golden Gate bridge, with San Francisco in the background. It was quite hazy that evening, too hazy at daytime. I was not sure if the photo would turn out OK at night, you judge.

A veritable river of bright spring foliage stretches out beneath Rabbit Mountain Open Space between Lyons and Longmont, Colorado. Boulder County.

In the 1850s, this area of Rabbit Mountain was the winter home of the Southern Arapahoe Indians, led by Chief Niwot.

After Vik we drove east and reached the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, located in the south-eastern region of Iceland. The lagoon is at the foot of a giant glacier. The Glacier is constantly calving ice, and the ice leaves the lagoon in a river that ends up in the ocean. Some of the icebergs float, some are stuck. At 11:30pm at sunset I captured some icebergs stuck in the riverbed using an ND filter for a long exposure shot.

In July I showed Stanford University to our Honk Kong folks. I took my gear along just in case. It was full moon, but the moon was covered in a thin cloud layer. This created an interesting pattern in the sky - by eyes you could not tell, the sky was too dark compared the the lights at the campus. The long exposure and HDR processing made for a nice contrast between the green foreground and purple red night sky.

The medieval town Chur is the capital of the Grisons region in the Swiss Alps. The old town has small squares connected by small alleys. This alley is part of the Bärenloch (bear hole).

I processed a paintery HDR photo from three RAW exposures I took manually. After that I played with color balance a bit to give it an old look.

I planned to escape to the Tessin over the weekend, the Italian speaking part of Switzerland. I scrapped that plan because of heavy 60+mm rain forecast. Plan B was to take a gondola in nearby St. Gallen, and hike along a high mountain ridge. The clouds were favorable. It turned out that the gondola & restaurant were closed due to a private family event. I looked on the map for other interesting places nearby, and ended up at the Werdenberg castle in Buchs, St. Gallen. Plan C turned out nice. The old town of Werdenberg located just below the castle is amazing, and has very well preserved old buildings. While walking among the buildings I noticed that the sky lit up. I raced to the other side of the lake to take this reflection shot.

We went to a secluded beach north of Santa Cruz, California, called Panther Beach. It was high tide and the sea was quite energetic. There is a cave that leads to another beach, only passable at low tide. Waves flow both ways at high tide - a spectacle I could watch for hours.

I took this shot shortly after sunset today at Lake Tahoe, near Incline Village, Nevada. The sun was hidden behind clouds, but it illuminated the clouds above. I used an ND filter to get a long exposure to smooth out the water. The filter added this reddish tone, which I think is quite fitting for this scene.

We crossed this footbridge when we went hiking at the Garland Ranch Regional Park, located on the California coast in the Carmel Valley.

I processed a balanced, a paintery, and a photographic HDR photo from a RAW exposure, blended them selectively, carefully adjusted the color balance and curves, and added a filter. This looks like an infrared exposure, but it's not. The filter applied in post-processing gives that look. I do have an infrared filter, but the result is not that good on a camera not converted for IR. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.
