On a night before crossing the Golden Gate bridge heading home, I headed down to the Horseshoe Bay. There is a pier where people like to party and fish at night, with a nice view of San Francisco.

Yet another nice sunset in the Swiss Alps. This is above Schiers, Grisons, Switzerland.
I processed a balanced HDR photo from three RAW exposures. This scene has a high dynamic range - without HDR it would not be possible to capture the full dynamic range.

Last September we spent 2 1/2 days at a camp with rocketeers in the Black Rock Desert in Nevada. My son and I were speeding in the desert at up to 80 miles per hour shortly before sunset - the sun was really low. I took a number of shots through the windshield. This one is a lucky shot, not too blurry, showing the speed. The Black Rock Desert got its name from the dark pyramid-shaped rock straight ahead.
Anybody recognizes the title? It's from a song, slightly altered.
I processed a balanced HDR photo from a RAW exposure, and added some vignetting and played with the color balance to give the scene a nostalgic look.

We had some rainy days in the Swiss Alps last summer when I went back to visit my hometown. Returning to the airport in Zurich I spotted this lonely chapel near Walenstadt while driving on the freeway.
I processed a balanced, a paintery, and a photographic HDR photo from two RAW exposures, blended them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

The monastery in Ter Apel is from the middle age and one of the view intact of that period in Northwest Europe. It is a typical country side monastery. Now it’s a museum and worth to visit.

Yesterday I gave a ride to four Singularity University students. We went to Lighthouse Point Park in Santa Cruz, California. It was overcast, no sunset. The crashing waves after sunset were fun to watch. I love that sound!
It was already pretty dark when I took this shot. To get the wave's action I increased the ISO to 400 to get an exposure time of below 1 sec. I processed a balanced and a creative HDR photo from a RAW exposure, selectively merged them, and carefully pulled the curves.

After going to an entrepreneurship event in San Francisco I went to nearby Mission Creek. There are houseboats since the sixties. In the last few years they got surrounded by high-rises. A local news article has some background on the houseboats.
I illuminated the foreground with my iPhone, walking along the rocks during the long exposure. I was standing too long on one spot - you can see my legs on the left. I processed a balanced HDR photo and a paintery HDR photo from a RAW image, and pulled the curves for mid tones.

We recently have extended rain, and we need it. I drove from the Silicon Valley to La Honda, located on the peninsula of the San Francisco Bay Area. The hilly area is full of redwoods. I drove along a windy road among redwoods, and noticed a small creek. I followed the creek on foot until I found a small waterfall.
I processed a realistic and a balanced HDR photo from a RAW exposure, blended them selectively, carefully adjusted the curves and color balance, desaturated the image, and added strong vignetting. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

We went to the Hawk Hill, located in the Marin Headlands just north of San Francisco's Golden Gate. Waiting for sunset and moonrise, we lingered around at the top. When it was time for moonrise we walked through the tunnel. As if planned, the sun aligned perfectly, casting a long shadow on passerby.

Today's sunset at Lake Tahoe was exceptional. It was raining in the south, and there where beautiful clouds in the north. I took this shot a few miles south of Incline Village on the East side of the lake 15 minutes after sunset.

We had some rainy days in the Swiss Alps when I visited my hometown Schuders last summer. After doing some errants I headed back to Schuders, and passed by this barn above Schiers, located not too far from Davos in the canton of Graubünden. It's fun taking photos in the rain.
