The sides of the headlights are yellow, as if they are fading towards the orange blinkers. This probably means this was a French sold Mercedes (thanks Wouter in the comments).

For sale at 4,900 and 3,990 Euros respectively. Seemed like decent value on the Mercedes, although I'm not sure what mileage it'd done nor what engine it had.

The Hyundai had done 238,000 kms but still looked tidy.

Impressive. They don't call this generation S-Class 'The Cathedral' for nothing here in NL.

44206, S302, S317 and GM22 (offline) make up for lost time as they race west across the Darling Causeway between Mt Victoria and Bell. The railway line literally runs along a knifes edge ridge before descending down into Lithgow via The Ten Tunnels.

The day had started off warm and sunny, although the further west the train went, the more pronounced the clouds became. Quite quickly the clouds went from individual nuisances ruining sunny photos to form a thick blanket covering the central west. Disappointing, our last shot "under the wires" for the day also happened to be our last shot with any sun on the train.

Four S Class express passenger locomotives were built by the Victorian Railways, entering service in 1928. The bottom model shows S 300 in its original unstreamlined form with the red livery it received in 1934.

With the introduction of the new Spirit of Progress service in 1937 (providing the Victorian leg of the Melbourne to Sydney express), the locomotives were streamlined and received a new blue and gold livery. The top model shows S 302 after streamlining with the larger tender required for the express run from Melbourne to Albury on the New South Wales border.

Last week I had a short but great date with a Mercedes Benz S 580e. Of course I didn't have time again... as always... but a few photos had to be taken. The price for this car was €204,000... 😎👍

B61 leads fellow ex-Victorian locomotives S302, S317 and G514 towards Newnes Junction with 1877 SSR freight from Cooks River to Kelso. With the G Class only having recently returned to this service after a stint running grain trains for Westons Milling at Enfield, it was a notable event to get streamliners leading this train again, especially on a now uncommon daylight run west. It might have been less than desirable high summer sun, but one doesn't turn down the chance to chase a veteran like B61 on the mainline.

Anytime one of the bigger horses is sidelined or diverted to other duties, the veterans of SSRs mainline fleet prove that they're still just as able as when they were first introduced. The lead three locos have 172 years of service between them!

As an aside, this chase took the train and myself through no less than three severe thunderstorms, all moving from western NSW out to sea. The second storm can be seen behind the train.
