We have friends staying at Sapphire this week and so far they are loving it. I was looking forward to seeing what the condos look like since we've never been in them. They are staying in building E which is the last building, closest to the marina. They are on the first floor so you walk right out onto the beach and the sound of the waves are just awesome. It's a studio with full kitchen, one bed, one bath and sleeper sofa. There is a fake wall that you can pull out to separate the bed from the living area if you want. It's a little tight for two couples but they don't seem to mind (you have to get along really well lol). It's on a separate little beach so it's much quieter than the main beach. And it's just a short walk to the pool and main beach area so it works out perfect.
They got a rental car but I've been driving my car with them following me so that they can get used to driving. Yesterday I put 70 miles on my car going back and forth from my place to Frenchtown to sapphire... I don't think I've ever put that many miles on my car in one day!
Today another couple arrives that will be staying with us so the next week should be pretty wild lol. We plan to do some boating and diving if the seas calm down. It's been rough out so hopefully it calms otherwise our friends will be pretty disappointed. Jay has to work most of their time here so we're getting captain Gary to take us out on our boat for some morning dives. And then when Jay is off we can get the whole group out for a couple boat days.
On two occasions, whales have been found dead on the bulbous bow of Sapphire Princess, a year apart from each other. On July 25, 2009 the ship docked at Canada Place Terminal, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, with a dead Fin Whale lodged on its bow.[10] The estimated 21.3 m (70 ft) whale was found on top of the bulbous bow. Preliminary reports from the Fisheries and Oceans necropsy suggest the whale might have been sick.

Istanbul Sapphire, or Sapphire, is a skyscraper, and as of 2011, the tallest building in Istanbul and Turkey, located in the central business district of Levent. It will relegate to the second spot upon the completion of the Diamond of Istanbul triple towers, located in the nearby central business district of Maslak. It is the country's first ecological skyscraper. Sapphire rises 54 floors above ground level, and boasts an above-ground roof height of 238 meters (the building has an overall structural height of 261 meters including its spire, which is part of the design and not a radio antenna.) It is a shopping and luxury residence mixed-use project by Biskon Construction (a subsidiary of the Kiler Group of Companies.)
It is strategically located close to the TEM and O1 main road arteries and to the Bosphorus and F.S.M. bridges. The building has a direct access to the 4. Levent subway station from its 3rd basement floor, and is situated on Büyükdere Avenue, one of Istanbul's main thoroughways, in the middle of the city's central Beşiktaş and Şişli districts, and in close proximity to the quarter of Etiler.
Istanbul Sapphire has been designed by Tabanlıoğlu Architecture as a high-tech structure that consists of 64 floors (54 above-ground and 10 basement floors), communal living floors, extensive parking spaces, a large shopping mall, and 47 floors for residences.
There will be specialized floors which have private gardens between every 3 floors, and every 9 floors are separated from each other by a communal living area or mechanical floors. Design of the gardens are proposed with a number of alternatives and the consistency of garden maintenance is under the residence management company’s responsibility.
Sapphire is the first ecological building of Turkey, having two special glass shells which can take the outside air naturally by holes located at every 3 floors. Thanks to this system, the inhabitants of the building will not be affected by the negative weather conditions and external urban noise, in addition to providing a buffer with the outside atmosphere and the internal facilities. Absorption of the sunlight and ultraviolet beams will be ensured by a special curtain system that's automatically controlled through a computer, depending on the season, day and hour.
This rare and colorful sapphire quail-dove was not previously known to occur in the area where we established our trail cameras. Within Peru, the species only lives in small, isolated areas. Even our collaborating ornithologist was unable to see or hear the species in the area. Only the camera traps were able to confirm its presence.
National Zoo scientists set up camera traps in a remote section of the Amazon rain forest to gather data about the variety of species that inhabit it. Learn more about the project here: nationalzoo.si.edu/ConservationAndScience/MAB/research/ar...

Sapphire Pool is located in an isolated group of thermal features known as Biscuit Basin. Don’t be fooled by the brilliant blue color, the water temperatures are 200-plus degrees. Staying on the boardwalk and viewing all the thermal features is the best and safest way to see all the small pools and geysers. You can feel the heat and steam as you walk the .65 mile loop.
