If the whale tail version was a tad too brash, the more conservative Sapphire was the tool of choice - until someone took it in the night.

Originals like this example are very hard to find. For some obscure reason owners in the 90's got out their screwdrivers and attempted to do some improvements. Yes sticking on some silly-boy kit was a brilliant idea... err.. not really.

i love this shade of blue, somewhere between midnight and sapphire (it's darker in person, my camera has been taking really bright pics lately... i think there is a ghost inside). i was concerned about the drapeyness of the jersey fabric (& pilling factor) but i think it works with the low belt to give it some more structure. most of my belts are waist belts, i need some more low slung ones.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Istanbul_Sapphire:

Istanbul Sapphire, or Sapphire, is a skyscraper, and as of 2011, the tallest building in Istanbul and Turkey, located in the central business district of Levent. It will relegate to the second spot upon the completion of the Diamond of Istanbul triple towers, located in the nearby central business district of Maslak. It is the country's first ecological skyscraper. Sapphire rises 54 floors above ground level, and boasts an above-ground roof height of 238 meters (the building has an overall structural height of 261 meters including its spire, which is part of the design and not a radio antenna.) It is a shopping and luxury residence mixed-use project by Biskon Construction (a subsidiary of the Kiler Group of Companies.)

It is strategically located close to the TEM and O1 main road arteries and to the Bosphorus and F.S.M. bridges. The building has a direct access to the 4. Levent subway station from its 3rd basement floor, and is situated on Büyükdere Avenue, one of Istanbul's main thoroughways, in the middle of the city's central Beşiktaş and Şişli districts, and in close proximity to the quarter of Etiler.

Istanbul Sapphire has been designed by Tabanlıoğlu Architecture as a high-tech structure that consists of 64 floors (54 above-ground and 10 basement floors), communal living floors, extensive parking spaces, a large shopping mall, and 47 floors for residences.

There will be specialized floors which have private gardens between every 3 floors, and every 9 floors are separated from each other by a communal living area or mechanical floors. Design of the gardens are proposed with a number of alternatives and the consistency of garden maintenance is under the residence management company’s responsibility.

Sapphire is the first ecological building of Turkey, having two special glass shells which can take the outside air naturally by holes located at every 3 floors. Thanks to this system, the inhabitants of the building will not be affected by the negative weather conditions and external urban noise, in addition to providing a buffer with the outside atmosphere and the internal facilities. Absorption of the sunlight and ultraviolet beams will be ensured by a special curtain system that's automatically controlled through a computer, depending on the season, day and hour.

Tallest residential/mixed-use building in Europe and the tallest (for now) in Turkey.

Sapphire, a VIS deep-cover asset, was being held captive by a rebel militia. Given the urgency of the situation, Team 7 was tasked with conducting a low-visibility rescue at a house near the Ligeria-Nagonia border region.

Traveling in civilian vehicles to maintain a low profile, the team embarked on a grueling journey through rugged terrain and isolated roads, carefully avoiding checkpoints and potential threats. After a full day of travel, they finally arrived at the target location. Moving with practiced efficiency, they swiftly dismounted and launched a coordinated assault on the objective building, using the element of surprise to overwhelm any resistance and secure their target.

Sapphire is a gemstone variety of the mineral corundum, an aluminium oxide. Trace amounts of other elements such as iron, titanium, chromium, copper or magnesium can give corundum blue, yellow, pink, purple, orange or greenish color.

Sapphires, garnets and "plain" stones. The best raw sapphires look like large clear quarts or glass shards. It takes heat treating to turn them from clear or yellow to the brilliant blue that you expect.

A mineral is a naturally-occurring, solid, inorganic, crystalline substance having a fairly definite chemical composition and having fairly definite physical properties. At its simplest, a mineral is a naturally-occurring solid chemical. Currently, there are over 6100 named and described minerals - about 200 of them are common and about 20 of them are very common. Mineral classification is based on anion chemistry. Major categories of minerals are: elements, sulfides, oxides, halides, carbonates, sulfates, phosphates, and silicates.

The oxide minerals all contain one or more oxide anions (O-2). The oxide minerals include species that are hydroxy-oxides. The hydroxide minerals (those with one or more OH-) are usually considered together with the oxides. Many sulfide minerals are not stable in Earth-surface conditions. In the presence of oxygen and moisture, sulfide minerals tend to tarnish or alter to oxides and hydroxy-oxides. All except the most inert elements (such as the platinum-group elements and gold and noble gases) readily form oxides. Gold oxide forms only under special conditions.

Corundum is aluminum oxide - Al2O3. At H≡9, it is the hardest common mineral, apart from diamond. Corundum forms hexagonal crystals, which is evident even in many river-worn specimens. The hexagonal columns of corundum typically have well-developed flat tops & bottoms. These flat ends are not cleavage planes - corundum has no cleavage. The cleavage-looking flat tops & bottoms of corundum are called partings (pseudocleavage). Additional breakages will not be along planar surfaces.

The color of corundum is variable - it can be any color, including plaid patterns. If transparent and relatively fracture-free & inclusion-free, corundum is said to be of gem-quality, and the color determines the name of the gem.

Sapphire Pool, Sapphire Group, Biscuit Basin, far-northwestern Upper Geyser Basin, Yellowstone Hotspot, northwestern Wyoming, USA on 10 August 2011 (looking ~NNW).

This hot spring has an intensely blue color, the color of a gem-quality sapphire. This pool’s coloration is the result of very high-temperature water having an abundance of suspended, extremely small particles of colloidal silica less than one-half micron in size.

After some 'Road Runner' style roads we find ourselves cruising through the visibly 'pimped' sapphire village settlements, which have only sprouted in the last 10 yrs as if the Wild West. It is told a Frenchman, who naively left the area to find out what the 'blue stone' he found while hunting for rubies was, returned to find 3,000 people already frantically digging. To find gemstones miners here dig by hand at $30,000 funding per pit, which would be covered by retrieving one small stone. The mine we visit has 200 men enlisted for work to work in the hope of striking a bonus. Strangely it is arranged anyone can mine in the region for a fee and it's Thai, Sri Lankan and American miners that benefit in the main, using mechanical equipment.
