Sapphire-vented Pufflegs are large pufflegs that are mostly green with blue on the front of the crown, purple undertail coverts, characteristically large white leg puffs, and a long, forked bluish-black tail. Sapphire-vented Pufflegs inhabit humid montane areas with open vegetation, including the borders of glades in tall, wet montane forests, or around grassy, páramo slopes. They typically forage at low levels on nectar from small flowers, and frequently perch while doing so. Although Sapphire-vented Puffleg is widely distributed, its biology is not well known. A further mystery regarding this species is that, although it can be common where it occurs, there are several unexplained gaps in its distribution.

Sapphire-spangled Emeralds frequent rainforest edges, humid or gallery forests, second growth, clearings, orchards, and gardens. Males defend flower territories and are rather diverse in their flower preferences. These emeralds can be difficult to identify in the field: they are mostly olive-green above with whitish middle and lower underparts. In favorable lighting, their throats sparkle with violet-blue. Birds of the world.

There is no better color on the Cayman GT4 in my opinion. This beauty was collected today by a friend and his dad. I can't wait to go for a ride in it and get some more photos.

Still stuck in Yellowstone in Winter 2010 - This is the Sapphire Pool, Biscuit Basin.

What a blast to the past. I must have had 25-30 dust spots on this image. I'd mostly forgotten about that annoying phenomenon. Being more into wildlife only now, I shoot a lot more wide open than at those high f/ numbers for 'scapes, so dust isn't so apparent, and of course auto sensor cleaning is probably way more effective than it used to be. I do still occasionally have to resort to "manual" sensor cleaning, not very often. Ah, the memories.

And that day the Sapphire fairy cast her spell on the young lovers and turned them into birds in the blue realm...

E naquele dia a fada Safira lançou seu feitiço nos jovens enamorados e os transformou em pássaros no reino azul...
