Preserved Strathclyde LA1204 (XUS 575S), along with two other Glasgow Atlanteans, on one of the tours at this weekend's brilliant GVVT open weekend event. We got to the outer Sandyhills terminus of route 61 - still in use today by First Glasgow - and pandemonium broke out, as three busloads of spotters all desperately milled around trying to get that perfect shot - your photographer included, of course.
In all the good-natured hub-bub, a young mother with two small children got on LA1204, thinking it was the actual service bus. Once told that this was in fact a private service, she and little 'uns alighted (having obtained a few souvenir tickets for the kiddies) and took their place back in the bus shelter. In fact, numerous people tried flagging down all three buses en route, all to no avail, of course.

MCL30089 (BV66GYD) at Chessington South station on running day route K8, blinded as X26 to Heathrow Central. These buses operated on the X26 for a few months after they were introduced in late 2016, before the X26 passed to Metrobus London in April 2017.
A very nice way to spend News Year's Day.

What better way to welcome in 2023 than pop down to Gosport & Fareham to enjoy The Provincial Society's 'Ale & Ride' running day! Twelve buses took part operating 13 return journeys via Stubbington and Titchfield calling at 8 pubs along the way.
Wednesday 9 December 2015 marks 10 years of a fully accessible bus network in London. It also marks 10 years since the last front-line service by London’s world famous Routemaster buses, on route 159.

It isn't until you see a modern bus in an older livery you realise it isn't necessary for them to be clad in all sorts of wishy washy hues, random jarring stripes and cheesy stickers.
Here then is one of First Potteries Scania Omnicity single deckers wearing PMT's pre-NBC colours. A solid local identity to which the (few that remain) passengers can relate and something which stands out in the High Street with great presence.
The photo was taken at POPS 'Gladstone Pottery' Longton based running day in 2019 with the museum's characteristic Bottle Ovens as a backdrop.
An usual Leyland Lion, making an appearance at the Heart of the Pennines rally in Halifax, 02/05/1993.
The underfloor-engined Lion - based on a design by Leyland's DAB subsidiary - was intended as a rival to Volvo's double-deck B10M Citybus design. Volvo's takeover of Leyland led to the eventual abandonment of the venture.
Nottingham and Eastern Scottish turned out to be the biggest customers, taking 13 each out of a production run of just 32 vehicles.
The Southampton & District Transport Heritage Trust provided today's entertainment in the form of a Farewell to Southampton's Red Buses running day. With the busy hub in Pound Tree Road, there were 3 routes to sample using 10 preserved former Southampton buses ranging from a 1951 Guy Arab III to a 1999 Dennis Dart. A great day out and a chance to catch up with a great many people!!
Without doubt the most unusual vehicle to make an appearance at the Selnec 25 weekend: the well-known Northern General Tynesider, a radical 1972 attempt to refashion a Leyland PD3 into something more suitable for pay-as-you-board operation. This was essentially a conversion to normal control with a protruding snout of an engine, fitted with a radiator from a Routemaster. There was of course a second conversion, called the Wearsider, featuring a modified NGT Routemaster. Neither conversions caught on, and Northern's one-man requirements were ably met instead by large quantities of Leyland Atlanteans and Nationals.
The Tynesider was at this time owned by Merseyside operator, Dave Forrest, of Blue Triangle fame, who I believe had bought her for a proposed tourist service in Liverpool, which came to nought. And, of course, everybody wanted to pile on and sample a ride when she set off for a little run out later on - your very lucky photographer included.
Absolutely nothing to do with Selnec, without doubt - but who cares?

As part of the 65/71 'running day' organised by the London Bus Museum, RF600 (NLE 600 - affectionately known as 'Nellie' by its owners) crosses the River Mole on Bridge Street, Leatherhead on a 'Green Line' working to Richmond.

A third GM Fleetline performer at the NWVRT event was this former Lancashire United example. This had previously been preserved in the GM version of LUT livery, but was repainted in G M Buses colours in time for the Museum of Transport's 80s event last year.
