The Southampton & District Transport Heritage Trust provided today's entertainment in the form of a Farewell to Southampton's Red Buses running day. With the busy hub in Pound Tree Road, there were 3 routes to sample using 10 preserved former Southampton buses ranging from a 1951 Guy Arab III to a 1999 Dennis Dart. A great day out and a chance to catch up with a great many people!!
Its funny the things which gain appeal with age. I never really thought that I would appreciate the Leyland National, but now their numbers are depleated and they're not an every day sight . . . well.
At the Chester & Wrexham running day held New Years Day 2023, Widnes Corporation No.1 was one of three Nationals operating. It looked and sounded as I remember them doing all those years ago when just about every other single decker bus you saw in England, and probably Wales, was one of them.
The interweb tells us that RTC 645L was the only National bought by Widnes Corporation (prior to becoming part of the Halton Borough brand) and that this particular bus was the first single door example off the production line, all those churned out previously had been dual door spec.
The photo was taken as the bus left Wrexham for Chester early afternoon.

RML887 (202UXJ) - formerlly WLT887, on the route 159 16th anniversary road run, and LT960 (LTZ2160) on route 137 at the Brixton Garage terminus stop.
It's that time of year again for us at RBW, and certain members of the Potteries Omnibus Preservation Society like 'Deltabus', to see whether all the efforts put into preparing for our 'big day' tomorrow have been worthwhile. Sunday 10th May is our annual rally and running day based on the Wedgwood visitor centre, Barlaston, Stoke on Trent.
A guest entrant in 2006 was Roger Burdett's superbly restored Metalcraft bodied Foden PVRF6, NTU 125. This particular coach was quite a 'local' machine, chassis built in South Cheshire at Sandbach, body built in North Staffordshire at Blythe Bridge, and for an operator based at Scholar Green. Power came from the wonderful sounding Foden's own six cylinder 'in line' two stroke (two cycle) 4 litre diesel. The coach is preserved in the latter day variant of Hollinshead's Coaches livery, as new it would have carried maroon and off white.

I'm sure that those of you who have attended the 'Potteries Connection' Running days based around Stoke on Trent's Gladstone Pottery Museum have thoroughly enjoyed the buses and rides on offer.... However... It seems the gremlins got into the advertising for an event which was brought forward to August to avoid a clash with Showbus. A popular enthusiast publication is advertising one which now won't take place on 27th September '09, so I thought that I'd mention it incase anyone was harbouring thoughts of going.
