As we had two replica Berresfords buses with us in today's commemorative convoy, opportunity was taken to return via the route Berresfords shared with PMT and Procter's from Leek to Hanley. Here all but one of the buses involved line up on the outskirts of Leek before departing for Cheddleton, Cellarhead, Werrington, Bucknall and Hanley.
Finally the transformation is complete. Less than a week ago 'Fantasy Fleet' Leyland Leopard ORS 60R had been in full Berresford Motors livery of red and ivory. With today's 'Stevenson's 90' event, we took the plunge and hastily re-painted the short 'Y type' to replicate one of the ex Lancaster City Transport DP's once operated by the Uttoxeter based firm.
The picture was taken this morning en-route to the event and even if I say so myself, I reckon she looks the part.
Seen at the Delaine of Bourne Running Day in August 1994 were Duple Lasers 96 MCT612, a Bedford YNT new to Delaine as B634YVL, and 97 VCT617, a Leyland Tiger new to Delaine as B693BVL.
SHMD 76 featured in a small running day event in April 2000 at the invitation of Tameside Council, to commemorate the centenary of Dukinfield's incorporation as a borough in August 1899. A free circular service was operated from Dukinfield Town Hall, to Yew Tree Estate via the former 10 and 10A routes.
The event was repeated fourteen years later, in 2014, by which time 76 had received a repaint into the later lighter green SHMD livery.

In late February 2019 I visited the Epping Ongar Railway's Green Line Running Day focussed on North Weald Station. A photographer's trip to Toot Hill was enjoyed by many and proved extremely popular. I also took a few shots at Epping Station.
Extremely heartening is the news that the Museum of Transport in Cheetham is due to reopen on 26/09/2020, following a long period of closure due to Coronavirus.
As a reminder of classic days gone by, and of hopefully more of the same to come, here's a shot from the Museum's memorable Crossley event back in 1993.

What better way to welcome in 2023 than pop down to Gosport & Fareham to enjoy The Provincial Society's 'Ale & Ride' running day! Twelve buses took part operating 13 return journeys via Stubbington and Titchfield calling at 8 pubs along the way.
A visitor at the 1996 Delaine running day, apparently in transit from somewhere exotic (Wigan) to somewhere else even more exotic (Hong Kong), was this unregistered Northern Counties-bodied Volvo Olympian tri-axle for Citybus, built to the Alexander R-type style. She also carries the badging of Northern Counties' then parent, Plaxton, these vehicles all being branded as such.

Preserved 1956 all-Leyland PD2 at Statfold Barn Staffordshire during the 'Statbus' bus and coach rally and running day.
The Southampton & District Transport Heritage Trust provided today's entertainment in the form of a Farewell to Southampton's Red Buses running day. With the busy hub in Pound Tree Road, there were 3 routes to sample using 10 preserved former Southampton buses ranging from a 1951 Guy Arab III to a 1999 Dennis Dart. A great day out and a chance to catch up with a great many people!!
Preserved exquisitely as a Venture bus, but actually new to the Road Transport Industry Training Board in 1970. She seemed to have spent most of the day, tucked away at the back of the haulage yard alongside the station, so the sight of her passing through town was fortunate indeed.

These buses were new to LRT & Lothian Buses as 667 & 324 in 1987 & 2009.
Seen here at Newhaven.
A normal Saturday service ran on the 7, with Lothian running duplicate vintage step entrance buses for those able, as part of their open doord day in 2018. The vintage buses were not running to ERI, but running short to Burdiehouse. 667 is one of many buses running on that day.
Just occasionally its possible to bag a photo at a running day where it looks as if it might have been taken with the bus in day to day service. The vast array of services provided at the old 'Friends of King Alfred' New Year's Day events provided several such opportunities, but I came across this one whilst re-scanning the last dregs of the collection over the weekend. Regrettably I've no idea where I was when I took this 1990s picture of Plaxton Derwent bodied Leyland Panther, UOU 419H, but it blends into a pleasingly 'ordinary' background. The January weather contributes to the shot looking nothing special too.
I never got to witness the real King Alfred operation, but thanks to the dedicated efforts of others, people like me can get something of its flavour, for which I'm grateful.

The very first of the vast fleet of around 7,000 RT-type buses that served London between the late 1930s and the late 1970s. RT1 stands in South Street, Dorking, participating in the route 93 'running day' along the original route from Putney to Dorking.
To celebrate 75 years since the introduction of the type to London's streets, a number of AEC REgent III (RT) buses operated over route 11.

RT 75th Anniversary Running Day
2nd November 2014.
Pictured withdrawn outside Lancaster's garage in Morecambe, along with the two other ex-GM Ailsas out of shot. The occasion was the Lancaster depot open day and running day event, that ended up being a farewell to this former municipal operator in the light of its impending takeover by Stagecoach two months later.
