I had a great time taking photos of this little cutie. His owner is an elderly lady from Germany, who is here on holidays - we did not speak a single word of common language, but we managed to communicate enough that I have her address and I'll post her a few of the photos I took.
I've always liked this photo, but technically, it was bad. I've discovered that f/4.0 on the 24-105 lens produces soft lines, and 10000 ISO isn't the best, even for my camera that sees in the dark. I made a B&W out of it, and gave it some PP tweaks. The result now respectable, I think.

I've started running again, partly because I want to shake it up a bit from cycling but also for cross-training.
It's cold here, so I've been gearing up appropriately and have finally found a happy medium for running gear (pictured).
Need better shoes though: the Nikes above are years old (though were barely used) and I like the Adidas cross trainers I've been using of late but I need some better support. I'll be looking into more traditional running brands like Asics, Mizuno and Brooks.
Places like this lonely country road are a sort of no-man's land. They are visited and viewed only from passing vehicles. They are not intended for pedestrians. They are in fact pedestrian-hostile and you take your life in hand to venture along here on foot. I glanced at the faces of drivers of cars and trucks as they sped past me. They seemed surprised at my presence...not at all accustomed to seeing anyone here. This was no place to linger. I got what I came for and moved out as quickly as possible.
Running To Standstill

You know I took the poison, from the poison stream
Then I floated out of here, singing
Ah la la la de day
Ah la la la de day
Ah la la la de day
She walks through the streets
With her eyes painted red
Under a black belly of cloud in the rain
In through a doorway
She brings me white golden pearls
Stolen from the sea
She is ragin', she is ragin'
And the storm blows up in her eyes
She will suffer the needle chill
She's running to stand still
So, last image for 2020, and first image posted, taken with my new Sony A73.
Am super impressed with the detail this camera captures. Very happy man.
Well, to say it’s been a bollox of a year for the world in general would probably be quite the understatement, and I’m sure, like the reference of the title of the image, most of us thought we were taking one step forward, then two steps backwards with lockdowns and so forth.
We obviously don’t know what 2021 is going to bring, so let’s stay positive and hope for a much better year.
Wishing all of you and your families best wishes and good health for the coming year.
Stay safe, and Happy New Year from me.
Hope you like “Running To Standstill “
Cheers, Mike

[G29TGW] Here is the Roundabout Preservation Carlyle Dartline bodied Dennis Dart. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to go on it but it was nice to see a change from the RFs.
More like...running me over! But it is all in good fun...street level bokeh had me a bit too focused to notice being run down. Not sure how he missed me...but no arm no foul.

This is a male Lesser Scaup, a diving duck that runs on the surface of the water with its webbed feet before launching into flight. And how about that eye!
Another week gone by already. Time now to relax and revitalize again.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend... a long one, here in the States... be safe, be happy!
February 26th, 2022 marked the second to last day of normal operation on the Chicago South Shore’s famous 1.8 mile stretch of street running on 10th and 11th streets in Michigan City Indiana. The railroad and the community have shared this stretch of roadway since 1908, and over the past 114 years much has changed. Michigan City and the surrounding areas have changed, the railroad has changed and modernized with the times, but one of the things that, for the most part, has stayed relatively the same is the presence of the Chicago South Shore & South Bend railroad and its interurban and freight trains running down the middle of the streets. The community and railroad have coexisted fairly well over the past 114 years considering trains and motorists share the same piece of roadway and the proximity of homes and businesses to the railroad.
However, change is inevitable whether we like it or not I guess, and soon the famous street running will be significantly altered. The streets will close and vehicle traffic will be detoured onto alternate routes. Interurban passenger service will use buses to bridge this stretch of railroad, and freight traffic will mostly run at night. Once the $500 million project is complete the vehicle traffic will return to a new one-way road, the interurban passenger and freight trains will once again run on a more normal schedule but will return to a new double track main through town. The project is designed to help with congestion, efficiency, and safety through Michigan City. But at the same time it comes at a loss of the famous street running that was a time capsule glimpse back into a forgotten era of railroading over 100 years ago.
As the sun dips down close to the horizon on this late February day, a pair of CSS SD38-2s run light down 10th street, as people from all over flocked to Michigan City to document the final moves of normal operations down what could be the most famous stretch of street running left in North America.
This another shot from when I went to Walton Hall on our misty morning!! The mist was now starting to lift and I managed to get view of the little private chapel within the grounds.
