Unlike the previous dog, this little cutie ran happily along even while on a leash. It was a joy to see him or her go and even create a little shadow.

Stopping off on the way to the Bourbon Trail for a lengthy lunch at a sidewalk cafe in Lagrange, KY gave CSX enough time to run a couple of southbounds. It was a nice spring day and pretty easy to wait for a horn and pop up from the table to get in position.

The New Forest Drift takes place each year, from August to early November. It is when the Commoners of the New Forest National Park conduct The Drift and round up all the New Forest ponies.
We ran into the tail end of a Drift as we walked today. We hadn't seen any signs , so it was a bit of a surprise.
It's been a turbulent month here by June standards. A succession of storms have pummeled the local farmlands, dumping unnecessary inches of rain and creating bizarre temperature fluctuations. Some days I've actually worn a fleece jacket. Of course my tolerance to any sort of cold weather is lost by this point in the year, but still, it is June. Other days the temperature pushes past 80 and that seems unusually hot when it's on the heels of a day in the low 60s. The storms often bring massive cloud formations, so thick they blot out most of the sun. Some days look so dark I expect the streetlights to illuminate. Nothing thrills me quite the way it feels standing beneath one of these towering masses as it sweeps in, turning a bright blue sky into inky darkness. Cool wind clashing with warm air, knowing heavy rain and even hail are about to be unleashed...yet having these few minutes to appreciate the transition as the tumult plays out all around me. Today marks the summer solstice in the northern hemisphere. The longest day is at hand. Yet another threshold moment and I savor this one most of all. Daylight will begin to wane, although not noticeably for a couple of weeks. For me it's high summer, even though technically only the first day. It's just not the same once the sun begins setting earlier.

Running Eagle Falls is one of the coolest waterfalls I’ve ever visited. The water pours out through an opening in the rock as you see here. But when river levels are higher, water also spills over the top of the rock face forming two waterfalls in one! You’ll have to Google a shot of that because water was pretty low in late summer, during this visit.
