TfL route 108, between Stratford and Lewisham via the Blackwall Tunnel, must hold the record for variety among its rolling stock, with numerous body and chassis combinations in use. Some of its buses are old by London standards and show signs of a very hard life, unsurprising considering the 108 is an intensive 24-hour service which only uses single-deckers due to the tunnel's heigh limitation. Here unusual MCV-bodied Alexander Dennis Enviro200 ED8 (AE06 HCK) is seen at North Greenwich.

This deserted truck is a very early example. I found her in a back yard of a farm house. There was nobody there, so I sneaked in very slowly till I was standing in front of this treasure.

Route 35 (Clapham Junction-Shoreditch) also transferred from Abellio London to Go-Ahead London Central on Saturday 30th April. Rather more conventional fare for this route is a batch of ADL Enviro400 MMCs such as EH48, seen at the junction of Gracechurch Street and Lombard Street in the City of London on Tuesday 3rd May.
**************************************
Routes 35 and 40 were returned to Go-Ahead London Central on Saturday 30th April, after 7 years in the hands of Abellio London. The new contracts called for 42 new hybrid double-deckers; the 22 buses for route 35 are the new standard ADL Enviro400H MMC that is now being seen in increasing numbers on London's streets, whilst the 20 buses for the 40 are Volvo B5LHs carrying the new MCV EvoSeti bodywork, a first for London although some entered service with East Yorkshire Motor Services last year. As both routes are allocated to Camberwell (Q) Garage some mixing inevitably occurs, and the types are also likely to be seen on other Camberwell-operated routes.
At the same time route 345 went the other way, from Go-Ahead to Abellio, and is now providing work for some of the displaced Enviro400s; others are going to West London for Ealing local route E9.
The conversion of route 453 (Marylebone Station-Deptford Bridge) to New Routemaster operation was just about complete in early December, with all the buses delivered. However a few have yet to enter service and a few Enviro400s are still operating on the route, such as E185 seen approaching Elephant and Castle Station on Monday 8th December.
The arrival of the New Routemasters has triggered a cascade within Go-Ahead London, and 30 Enviro 400s are moving from Mandela Way Depot to Camberwell Garage, displacing a similar number of Wright Gemini/Volvo B7TL to a number of different Go-Ahead London garages. 18 are for spare cover and PVR increases, whilst 12 are going to Metrobus at Orpington to replace Scania OmniDekkas.
Route 453 was introduced on 15th February 2003, as part of a scheme to increase capacity on the bus network with the introduction of congestion charging; as part of the scheme route 53 was cut back from Oxford Circus to Whitehall. Route 453 was operated with articulated Mercedes Citaros from its inception until 24th September 2011.

Dallas Time Herald, Oct. 1962
What appeared to be chaos to this writer was actually the first day of filming of the CBS Tele-series Route 66 at Fair Park.
Production head Sam Manners was pleased as equipment was quickly unloaded from his mobile studio which is in Dallas for a few weeks of shooting.
Onlookers were curious about seeing two sleek sports cars which appeared to be identical.
Manners was happy to explain that since the production co. is constantly on the road across the U.S., a duplicate of the car in the series is a must. "If something were to happen to our primary vehicle we can't afford to waste time waiting for GM to ship us another one."
The episode filming this week should air the first week in December on KRLD TV, Channel 4 in Big D.
Dallas Times Herald November 1962
The Route 66 Production company had to abruptly cease filming at Fair Park yesterday and is heading back to Hollywood.
Reached by phone, Production Manager Sam Manners said they were behind schedule and had to honor sound stage commitments in Hollywood which had been made at the beginning of the season. He said he hoped to return to Dallas after the first of the year and finish filming the Fair episode.
Dallas Times Herald Feb. 1963
It was learned today that the episode of Route 66 which filmed here briefly back in October will not be completed.
Yesterday, Sam Manners, speaking by phone from St. Louis, where the show is currently filming, said that they have an agreement with the Chevrolet Motor Division of General Motors to showcase the Corvette sports car in the series. "We have just taken delivery on the 1963 model and it will be used in all future episodes. Since the scenes we shot at the Fair last Oct. featured the 62 model, it would not be cost effective to return to Dallas and reshoot with the new 63 model."
Manners said he enjoyed his stay in Dallas last year and could not rule out a return to the Dallas area in 63.
The start (or end, depending on your point of view) of the most famous highway in America. Barely 200 yards into it, the first bar is (Ye Olde) King's Head English pub where some decent American beers can be had - I personally like the Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.

Different pouches for the different routes serviced by West Ham
Resembling an old-fashioned aerodrome, West Ham Garage consists of four long round-roofed blocks, two open-facing and two sealed.
The building was designed to replace Stratford and Waterden Road Garages (demolished as part of the Olympic Park developments). The garage was a brownfield site, previously occupied by a Parcelforce Depot.
Demolition at the ParcelForce site began late in 2007 and by February 2008 the operation of the Stratford garage had moved to part of the new site. Operations from the other garage, known as Waterden Road, relocated initially to newly acquired and refurbished premises at Rainham, moving to the temporary West Ham site in May 2008.
Construction of the new garage took place immediately to the south of the temporary premises and the main garage structure was basically complete by the end of March 2009, at which time ParcelForce vacated their site further to the south of the garage that would become the bus parking area. By December 2009 the garage’s engineering and operating staff had moved in to the new building, joined by head office staff from Ilford in February 2010. Work on the parking, washing and fuelling area was completed in June 2010 when the contractors handed over the site.
[Stagecoach Bus]
The building was Pringle Richards Sharratt Architects.
Environmental aspects of the design include green roofs (50% of which is covered in lichen) which also captures rainwater for re-use, natural lighting and ventilation in the offices, and a turbine generating power.
Stagecoach Somerset Route 99 at my local bus stop on West Coker Road, in Yeovil, yards from where I live during university holiday periods.
This route has been improved beyond all recognition, when I first came to Yeovil visiting relatives back in 2002 there were 3 routes serving this stop Safeway Services Route 682 Yeovil-Crewkerne-South Petherton around 5 journeys each way at odd times Monday-Saturday, First Route 61 Yeovil-Crewkerne-Chard around 6-7 journeys each way at odd times Monday-Saturday and every 120 mins on Sundays and First Route 47 Yeovil-Crewkerne-Bridport 4 journeys Monday-Friday, 3 on Saturday.
Safeway Services packed up, First amalgamated two routes and diverted it via here (Route 56), First lost the Monday-Saturday 61 to Stagecoach who added a new route 60 doubling the service but withdrawing the Evening journeys, Nippy Bus introduced an hourly Night Bus on Wednesday-Saturday nights until 0300 am FIrst lost the 56 to Nippy Bus who renumbered it the N8 increasing the service to hourly, they later introduced a low floor solo owing to increasing demand, the 60 and 61 were joined to the 99 route creating new Routes 99/99A/99B with an hourly service all day for the first time, new Optare Versa's were purchased for the service which initially ran Yeovil-Crewkerne-Chard-Taunton-Wellington however reliability issues caused Stagecoach to reduce the length of the route to Taunton only. At this point this stop had a service every 20 minutes. Nippy Bus decide to reroute the N8 back to its original route the old 56 route pre-2004 and thus we lost this service from here, First introduced a Sunday service as a trial over the summer on the 47 which was successful and so it now operates all year.
So in 2011 we have
47 (First Hampshire & Dorset) Yeovil-Crewkerne-Beaminster-Bridport (4 Journeys) (Daily)
61 (First Somerset & Avon) Yeovil-Crewkerne-Chard (Every 120 mins) (Sundays)
99/99A/99B (Stagecoach Somerset) Yeovil-Crewkerne-Chard-Taunton (Every 60 mins) (Monday-Saturday)
N4 (Nippy Bus) Yeovil-Watercombe Heights (This Stop) (Every 60 mins) (Weds, Thurs, Fri & Sat Nights)
Somerset is becoming Optare County with operators including Stagecoach (Versa & Solo), South West Coaches (Versa & Solo), Webberbus (Versa & Solo), Nippy Bus (Solo), Hatch Green Coaches (Solo & soon to be Solo EV), Frome Minibuses (Solo), NORDCAT (Solo & soon to be Solo EV I believe), Bakers Coaches (Solo), Somerbus (Solo), First (Solo), Go Ahead Damory (Solo & Spectra) all taking the manufacturer's buses! The main competition is from Alexander Dennis with examples of Enviro 200's recently delivered to First, Webberbus & Quantock Motor Services.
Route 245 is currebtly being converted from single to double-deck operation, using buses displaced from route 24's conversion to New Bus for London. However the Volvo B9TL/Wright Gemini 2s are very similar to those already used on route 83 from the same garage, Alperton, and it is one of the latter which is seen resting at Golders Green Bus Station in between runs. It is one of the few buses still carrying the fleetnames and vehicle number (VN37799) of its former owner. The Enviro200 behind is also on route 245, showing that on Wednesday 7th August at least the double-decking was still a work in progress.
The conversion was made possible by Metroline's acquisition of route 245 and its operating base, Alperton Garage, from First London on 22nd July 2012; and is an early by-product of the merger. The vehicles are very similar to those allocated to route 83 from the same Garage, and the two batches appear to be mixed in practice. The interlopers are however instantly recognisable as they have blue dashboard panels instead of grey, and they have been fitted with the new standard white-on-black blinds.
Learning Route on Natural Resources Management and Climate Change Adaptation best practices covered several districts in Kenya. The event was organized by Procasur with the support of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
The objective was to scale up through peer to peer learning the Kenyan best multi stakeholders’ strategies, tools and practices to fight environmental degradation and to adapt to climate change with the aim of improving the livelihoods of people living in affected territories.

Even more obscure than the 375 is the 347, which operates just four off-peak Monday-Saturday return journeys on a two-hourly frequency between Romford Station and Ockendon Station, just over the border with Thurrock. Operating over several roads that have no other bus service, the route commenced in November 2004 and replaced a mobility bus route.
Since October 2005 the route has been operated by Blue Triangle of Rainham, since acquired by the Go-Ahead Group. Enviro200 SE24, with Go-Ahead fleetnumber but still carrying old-style Blue Triangle fleetname, approaches Romford Station to work the 14.00 departure to Ockendon on Monday 24th June 2013.

I shot this the day after Thanksgiving 2012 while on a short Route 66 jaunt with my wife and brother. It was a fun day trip. Wish it didn't take me 10 months to get to these. As I look back, a couple months before this, my computer was running poorly for about three weeks. And then it was in and out of the repair shop another three weeks. I shot close to 1,000 pictures while the computer was down. I have been struggling to get caught up since!
