Route 136 operates a cross-Wallingford local service, linking to Cholsey to the south and Benson to the north, where it terminates at the RAF base. The basic frequency is hourly, with additional journeys at peak times. Seen on the route on Tuesday 7th November is Wright Gemini-bodied Volvo B7TL no. 933; this vehicle was originally WVL 242 in the Go Ahead London Central fleet and was new to Camberwell Garage in 2006 for route 68.
Today I took the Goldwing out for a run along old route 66. It was really windy and as usual, no one around. So I took out my toy to play a bit. This weekend I am going to Juarez for a little visit, I will be packing, my camera that is.
Bus 800 was the last of the 1948 GM coaches purchased. Shown here on Clarks Lane at Poplar Level Road on the Hill Street bus route, it was one of two of these buses retrofitted with turn signals!
U.S. Route 66, (also known as Route 66 or The Will Rogers Highway) was a highway in the U.S. Highway system. One of the original federal routes, US 66 was established on November 11, 1926, though signs did not go up until the following year.[1] It originally ran from Chicago, Illinois through St. Louis, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California before ending at Los Angeles for a total of 2,448 miles (3,939 km).
Route 66 underwent many improvements and realignments. Most of those affected the total mileage somewhat. One of those resulted in the movement of the endpoint from Los Angeles to Santa Monica. Contrary to common belief Route 66 never ran to the ocean but it terminated onto what was US-101 then at the intersection of what is today Lincoln Boulevard and Olympic Boulevard.
Route 66 was a major migratory path west, especially during the Dust Bowl of the 1930s, and supported the economies of the communities through which the road passed. People became prosperous due to the growing popularity of the highway, and those same people later fought to keep the highway alive even with the growing threat of the new Interstate Highway System.
US 66 was officially decommissioned (that is, officially removed from the United States Highway System) on June 27, 1985[2] after it was decided the route was no longer relevant and had been replaced by the Interstate Highway System. Portions of the road that passed through Illinois, New Mexico, and Arizona have been designated a National Scenic Byway of the name "Historic Route 66". It has begun to return to maps in this form.

We stayed north of San Francisco, 9+ miles up rte. 1, at Stinson Beach. It's a very small, quiet community. Dogs, joggers, horses and wanderers dotted the early morning beach. It was a nice calm before our adventure filled days.

Well if you ever plan to motor west
Just take my way that’s the highway that’s the best
Get your kicks on Route 66
Well it winds from Chicago to L.A.
More than 2000 miles all the way
Get your kicks on Route 66
In common with travelling across the USA, bus journeys are measured in time not distance. But our journey should take less than an hour compared to 5 ~ 7 days it would take to drive from Chicago to L.A.
On a bus journey passengers choose whether to spend the time travelling in the inner space of their thoughts or the inner space of the bus - examining their fellow passengers and the bus or they can observe the passing scenery. Unfortunately suburban Essex doesn’t compare favourably with the vistas of New Mexico, Arizona and Southern California.
The hodge pogded duplicator is exceeding my expectations. Gas and water pipes, plus a few welds are basic off-the-shelf bits. The X and Z co-ordinance are achieved by sliding back and forth (foot lever bar via bicycle cables) / up and down (hand controlled), while the Y co-ordinance is controlled by pushing the trolley left and right. The black hull master dictates where the stylist tracks, while the router cuts the hull from wood laminations. This tool should shave off a lot of time, so that a rough blank can be readied for sanding.
A colourful distraction along the road which prompts you to stop & check it out. The proprietor is friendly & informative.
Oct. 21, 2021: Route 66 El Trovatore Motel in Kingman, Arizona. Developer John F. Miller from 1937-40, built the motel, gas station, and cafe. Celebrities staying at the motel included Jeff Chandler, Charles Bronson, Jane Russell, James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable, and Don Knotts. Unfortunately, in later years, the motel fell into disrepair.
But about a decade ago, the rundown property was closed and facing foreclosure. Sam and Monica Frisher took over the motel in 2012 and renovated it - twenty rooms became Hollywood-themed rooms. In addition, workers repaired old signs and murals. Painters added new murals. A 206-foot Route 66 map decorates one side of the main motel building.

Apart from the animals and birds, winding jungle routes and 4-wheel drive Gypsies are the integral part of any national park. Waking up early in the chilled morning, completing the formalities, gypsies waiting in a queue, garam chai... and then the bumpy ride on these routes. Simply amazing experience.
