I was back in London at the weekend for an IET Engineering and Technology Photographer of the Year event at the Science Museum, where I was highly commended for a photo in the 'Adult Production & Design' category.
Afterwards we went for a wander round London, which meant we ended up walking through this tunnel in King's Cross which I hadn't visited since it had just opened. This time there was actually some colour on display!

Copenhagen's 400 year old Round Tower stands proud in the city centre.
It is a spiral walk, which is 268.5 metres long at the outer wall and only 85.5 metres long close to the core of the building. This means that you walk around 209 meters to get to top even though the tower is only 36 meters tall.

digital abstract art
This started by taking a photo with my iPad's Photo Booth in Light Tunnel mode (of wooden ceiling beams.) I then used an app called Percolator, to add colorful circles. Then, I used one of the art apps on my iPad (can't remember which one) which added the vertical/horizontal line texture. And finally I moved it to Photoshop for more enhancement.

Here's another from a couple weeks ago, when the huge waves were rolling in. The waves were gigantic for a couple of days, and then they died down for a couple of days. But, then came round two, as another storm brewed up in the Pacific, just missing Hawaii. The huge waves were back.
This is also from Shore Acres State Park, taken at sunset, during a brief moment while the sun was actually shining.
Alabama Hills, Eastern Sierra, California
The rounded rocks on the side of this mountain caught my eye one morning. They are the rocks found everywhere in the Alabama Hills area.
They are monzogranite, a type of granite. As often happens with granites, the monzogranite formation developed what geologists call joints, extensive cracks throughout the rock. The horizontal joints came from the removal of a massive overburden through erosion. The vertical joints developed from pressure from the surrounding rocks. Water penetrated these joints, loosening them to create rectangular blocks. Further water erosion rounded the edges, creating the smooth, lumpy rocks such as the ones we see here.
