At this little rest area, there's a hidden waterfall in the picnic area. They don't really mention it on the signs for the rest area, it's only on one sign that's up the trail a ways. If you don't know there's a waterfall here, you'd probably never find it.
At a rest stop in central Iowa there are these really unique lanterns all over this expansive park. They all have unique geometric designs cut out of iron and wrapped around light. I want to drive back through some time and see them at night.
The poor chap sat in the sink of the ladies restroom and could not creep up, so I went back to the car, got my camera, and then used the neck strap to see it off to some trees a bit away from the facilities. Alas it still would me not tell what species it is / Der arme kleine Kerl sass in einem glatten Waschbecken bei "Damen" fest. Ich holte die Kamera und lieh ihm dann den Gurt um ihn in die Natur zurueck zu schafffen. Leider hat er mir nicht gesagt wer er ist.

The Missouri Route 66 Welcome Center rest area is at mile marker 109 on I-44 in both directions.
Whether you need to stop or not, you MUST stop at this rest area! Behind the building is a set of picnic tables set up as attractions along Route 66.
It makes a nice break to stretch your legs and admire the different storefronts at each picnic table.

Prior to stopping here, I saw a hawk swoop down roadside, grab a rabbit and fly away.
I had a strange day as far as animals are concerned.

Rest area, Route 89 North in Sharon, Vermont. It may be the most pleasant wastewater treatment plant anyone can visit.
Mt Robinson Rest Area, Great Northern Highway, 107km north of Newman and 87km south of Munjina. A rough and eroded (even in 2004) track runs steeply up the hill at the back of the parking area.

Reader Daniel snapped this photo from his car. “Apparently someone wanted to accommodate travelers along this stretch of rural road in upstate NY. Bless their hearts for thinking of others. This discarded toilet has been there for well over a year, and some kind soul added the sign, should anyone need to ‘rest.’” (Great find, Daniel! Though it would be a little more fun if you’d caught someone taking advantage of this “rest area.”)
