Photographed the Single Leaf Pinyon Pine off one of the walking trails at the Echo Canyon Welcome Center Rest Area Westbound I-80 in Summit County Utah U.S.A.

Pinus monophylla, the single-leaf pinyon, (alternatively spelled piñon) is a pine in the pinyon pine group, native to North America. The range is in southernmost Idaho, western Utah, Arizona, southwest New Mexico, Nevada, eastern and southern California and northern Baja California.

It occurs at moderate altitudes from 1,200 to 2,300 m (3,900 to 7,500 ft), rarely as low as 950 m (3,120 ft) and as high as 2,900 m (9,500 ft). It is widespread and often abundant in this region, forming extensive open woodlands, often mixed with junipers in the Pinyon-juniper woodland plant community. Single-leaf pinyon is the world's only one-needled pine.

This poor old guy has been in the queue since 2017. Remember 2017. It seems to me that this year has been the worst year for almost everybody.

The year the world broke. So let's give a warm round of applause for good ole 2017!

Happy Slider Sunday

Took this shot nearly three years ago. I posted a picture recently of Echo Reservoir in Coalville Utah. This one is from the upper scenic view point on the Eastbound side of I-80. This is about 50 miles from my home in Salt Lake. I've stopped many times in my truck where the other trucks are parked.

Photographed the Big Sagebrush on one of the walking trails at the Echo Canyon Welcome Center Rest Area Westbound I-80 in Summit County Utah U.S.A.

Also known by the names Common Sagebrush, Blue/Black Sagebrush or Mountain Sagebrush, it is a shrub or small tree from the family Asteraceae. It is a coarse, hardy silvery-grey bush with inconspicuous yellow-green flowers and grows in arid sections of the western United States and Western Canada. It is the primary vegetation across vast areas of the Great Basin desert and is an indicator species for high desert (above 1,500 ft.). Like others in this genus, it has highly aromatic foliage. Unlike some others of this genus, it develops a true woody trunk and branches. In maturity the twisted trunk can become picturesque and suitable for bonsai treatment. Along rivers or in other relatively wet areas, sagebrush can grow as tall as 3 meters (10 feet), but is more typically 1-2 meters tall.

Taken the other day at the Rogue River rest stop in Oregon. Fall is winding down, too soon.

This rest area was built in conjunction with a trestle over Crockery Creek just a mile west of Conklin on the Musketawa Bike Trail.

I took this last November at the Rogue River rest area in Oregon last year. I'd spent the night there and in the morning went walking around, had the place all to myself. The morning had a crisp chill, but as the sun broke through I was reminded why autumn is my favorite season.

I drove by the rest area yesterday, still too early, but I was reminded that I still had this picture from the prior autumn.

I mentioned before about taking a week vacation. Well, got it approved for the last week of October. Looking forward to lots of fall photography.

I was going to post this yesterday, but too tired and had to get up at 3AM. Anyway, made that early delivery in Puyallup and heading back to Los Angeles. Funny thing is, tonight I'm here, yes same location and parked at the same spot. This load doesn't deliver until Monday, so should have plenty of time to catch up with everyone.

Have a great weekend!!!

I barely got out alive.

The thunder rolls

And the lightning strikes

Another love grows cold

On a sleepless night

As the storm blows on

Out of control

Deep in her heart

The thunder rolls

Early spring in Georgia, taken back in March of 2016, at a rest area of course. Off I-75 northbound near Calhoun. The sun was setting as I recall and I was busy running around taking pictures before it got too dark. I took a lot of macro tree blossom shots while I was there as well.

I guess I only posted one of the blossoms pictures, kinda surprised because I remember taking quite a few. Maybe they sucked.

Here's a link to the previous posted Georgia blossom macro if you're interested.

For this shot I hiked from my truck while stopped at a rest area in Washington. The hike was at least 200 feet to this spot. People that live in the PNW are so spoiled, and yes I'm jealous.

This is the time of year early morning fog in Western Oregon is very common, and it's lots of fun to photograph, not so fun to drive in. Yesterday morning it was thick along I-5, so I decided to see how the fog was near the rest area in Jefferson, OR. I spent about 30 minutes walking around the woods that surround the rest area, snapping lots of pictures. It was sooo much fun. My hands were cold by the end, but I was stoked. Couldn't wait for the day to end so I could see what I'd captured. It was fun picking my favorites and running them through Lightroom. This one is tied for my third favorite, number one and two are killing me to post, maybe I'll post one tomorrow or the next day. I still have lots of pictures processed and queued up from other areas, so it's hard to decide what to post. A good problem I suppose.

Gonna post this tonight, and I have a couple of hours to spend catching up on Flickr, won't be enough time, but looking forward to seeing some of what I've been missing.

"The woods are lovely, dark and deep. But I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep."

This one is probably my favorite, (if you don't know what I'm talking about, check out the prior picture) there's a couple of others that make my decision harder. Lots in my ready "queue" so I'm going to be posting some pictures from different places and throw in more of the pictures from this shoot from time to time.

Ended up today driving very little, delivered an empty trailer to a customer and now back at our terminal near Mira Loma, CA. Between the hourly pay for moving the trailer, layover pay, and holiday pay, I made out pretty good money. Hope everyone here in the States had a great Thanksgiving. Please don't feel sorry for me missing Thanksgiving with the family, I'll be home early in December... hopefully!!!

While taking pictures along the Iowa side of the Mississippi River, I stopped at the Linger Longer Rest Area provided by the Lee County Conservation. It is situated just north of Montrose at the intersection of Highway 61 and the Mississippi River Road.

To get closer to the river bank, I climbed down an embankment and onto the railroad tracks. I paused there before walking to the water's edge to take this photo... I must admit that I was somewhat nervous because trains would not have any reason to blow their whistles along this stretch of track.

Although the river does not appear to be very impressive in this image, it is actually very wide. The water vegetation in the river made it appear much narrower. On the far opposite shoreline stands the gleaming temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Nauvoo, Illinois. The panoramic view afforded by the park's location is beautiful!

Although the photo probably didn't need any additions, I felt the picture would be better balanced by adding the flying geese... and thus turning this image into a composite.

On the return journey from Mahood Lake, we stopped at the Lac des Roches Rest Area along Hwy 24 and found this lovely view! (22-08-19-4596-99)

Inside my truck cab I sometimes feel large and cramped, but walking in nature, perspective changes all that. Looking up into the night in the middle of nowhere, all those star's, unimaginably far away, now that's perspective. Time is the same.

Took this picture last November on a foggy morning in Oregon, Jefferson Rest stop. Took several pictures I really like. The couple walking their dogs, so small next to the tall trees.

Rastplatz im Gegenlicht * rest area in backlight

I think this is the last rest area heading south on I-5 in Washington State. I took some other pictures in the nearby woods, but liked this one on the back side of the rest area the best, better light and shadow, plus the stuff in the background came out pretty cool.

Maybe this would make a nice backdrop for a scene in a Broadway play, that's what it reminds me of. I saw Brigadoon in 1980 in New York City at the Majestic Theater. I was in the Coast Guard then and got hooked on Broadway and Off-Broadway plays, Whenever my ship was in port, I'd go to Times Square and see a play. In two and a half years I saw more than two dozen plays.

Crane-ballet :-)

Common cranes or Eurasian cranes (Grus grus) at their spring migration time. At a rest area Pulken, located near the city Kristianstad (Sweden) some days were observed up to 8000 roosting cranes. There also are chances to see the fascinating dancing of cranes.

Rocky Mountain Springtime

Photographed the White Rugosa Rose with a Orange-belted Bumblebee gathering pollen at the Watershed Truck Rest Area off of King's Highway 144 located in Northeastern Ontario Canada

Tolerant of many conditions and incredibly cold hardy, this rose can withstand salt, poor soil, and wind. White Rugosa Rose produces white flowers that are attractive and pure white with a papery texture.
