While photographing moose in the Bighorn Mountains of Wyoming, I noticed this little red squirrel in his version of heaven, surrounded by a superabundance of spruce cones.
The Red-winged starling (Onychognathus morio) is native to eastern Africa from Ethiopia to the Cape in South Africa. It prefers cliffs and mountainous areas for nesting, and has moved into cities and towns due to similarity to its original habitat. In this instance, into Stellenbosch, in the Western Cape province of South Africa.

Finally made the trek to photograph this old red mill up in Clinton, NJ. It has been photographed perhaps tens or even hundreds of thousands of times, making it hard to be unique, so instead I just had some fun with this Jersey icon.

Tripod-mounted for the portrait of a dashing young man and hand-held for the road atlas. Both lit by a remote-triggered strobe on a stand. Ton of work done to select the hair & draw the line & selectively amend the opacity of the Doofus in the hat. HSS! ;-)

Taking a break from the Florida birds, in the summer seasons, I think of the great outdoors. The places where there green trees meet the blue skies, with interesting "things" in between.
Garden of the Gods is a 1,323 acre public park in Colorado Springs, Colorado. It features a collection of sandstone rock formations of varying sizes, heights, and shapes. In addition to it being a fabulous scenic landscape area, it's full of recreational opportunities, such as hiking, biking, rock climbing, horseback riding ... to just name a few. In 1971, it was honored with being desinated as a National Natural Landmark. Well deserved I might add.
Years ago when my daughter was very young, I visited for my first time. Often, when Tom & I are in Colorado, we make a point of re-visiting. There's something about those interesting red rocks formations shooting upwards towards the blue sky, in the midst of beautiful green trees, that speaks to my soul ... and that's before you sprinkle in some gorgeous cloud formations. :-)
