Red Grouse, Highlands of Scotland

Pagham Harbour, West Sussex. Great place for bird spotting. I also spotted a couple of nice Big Bambooly Beacons there too. I even lined it up as well… (just add moonlight). : )

Little Red Squirrel leaning against the base of this tree with his dinner in hand. Spotted in Alverstone Mead Nature Reserve on the Isle of Wight.

Between car issues and bad weather, it has felt like forever since I last ventured out with the camera. At the weekend I managed to spend the day out and ended up photographing this very confiding Fox. It was a freezing morning but worth getting out, really must try to put my head down and get out as often as I used to.

A wider shot of one I uploaded a couple of weeks ago. Squire Anderton's Wood, before Storm Claudia removed the leaves, and before the groundsman had blown the leaves from the verges! (Yes, he must have done that as my later photos show them neatly lying on the other side of the railings.)

I'm looking forward to some mist, hopefully with sun too, at this place.

Busy and worrying times for the red stags as they battle for dominance in the highly competitive rut.

Six weeks of not eating and during which they lose a lot of weight but that allows stronger younger stags an opportunity to take over the harems and so improve the blood lines.

Impressive to watch but not if you are an ambitious stag

This stag did cause me some concern as frankly I do not trust him and he did not trust me as he stepped slowly one step at a time nearer to me but I allowed discretion of take over and I slowly retreated.

A Red-whiskered Bulbul clicked in the backyard. They live in thickets, near cultivated areas and gardens, and in big towns. They also like lightly wooded areas. Resident in their range these birds are always welcome due to their friendly nature and lovely song.

The Scarborough Red-necked Grebe has not been reported for a few days so I presume it has left. Or maybe BirdGuides has decided to stop reporting it in case it is making a breeding attempt. Small numbers do occur here in summer, but there have been few breeding attempts, and most have been unsuccessful. To date, the only successful breeding was in the Scottish borders in 2001. This was probably my closest photo of it but I didn't post it as I wasn't sure about the reflections in the water. Its scientific name Podiceps grisegena translates as grey-cheeked arse-foot, and you can see its grey cheeks here. And in case you are wondering, the feet on grebes emanate from the arse region to facilitate their almost wholly aquatic lifestyle. The Red Arrows put on a great show on Saturday, No matter how many times I see them I always get a little tingle and a sense of pride, I wasn't even in the Airforce lol! Still, they are the best of the best and never fail to deliver.

I should have had a lower shutter speed but must have inadvertently hit the dial without realizing it.

I went to the Wine store this morning after the gym and picked up some tasties for the holidays. I'm going to enjoy a little glass of this. It pairs great with chocolate!

Sometimes the simple pictures seem so easy but I have waited many hours by Red Pandas just in the hope they would wake up and move..... At last!

After a 6 hour drive back from Cornwall this today I took a trip out to see the returning Red-necked Grebe at Farmoor. Again well worth seeing this bird for the third year.

This was my 4th trip to Bushy Park, in London this season to see the rut.

Shot at 2000 ISO in shade. Lots of snow still on the ground, but spring is in the air.

This little red wagon (ok, not so little) looked lost in the middle of the spring field and begged to be photographed.
