While out shooting this weekend in Mahone Bay and Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, I happened to come across this eye-catching colour find on a table at a local cafe. Apart from some minor tweaks in PhotoShop and LightRoom, this is exactly as it appeared. I didn't even have to arrange the flower parallel to the slats of the table top.
The Sligachan bridge on a rainy morning. While waiting for the right moment we were treated by a few shower rains. All of a sudden, the sky turned red and created this magnificent view.

Love watching these tiny waders dashing around the ocean's edge on the hunt for prey.

I was attempting to photograph the insect swarm in the setting sun and this red deer hind trotted through in Bushy Park in May. I already posted another shot from the same sequence earlier, but I think I like this one better. This image was featured in Explore, 22nd of February, 2025.
I have spent a few days away from Cornwall with fellow photographer Max Thompson. We were in London for a couple of days and managed to get out to Richmond Park and send some time photographing the Red Deer amongst the autumnal colours - although the rut has more or less ended, a few stags were still sparring away. Plenty of images to come.

Red and purple spring leaves.
I made this photograph during a morning visit to a botanical garden with Patty a few weeks ago. We arrived early enough that there were still areas next to hedges, under trees, and near structures that remained in the shade — the full daylight sun is often too intense and harsh for this sort of photography. These leaves, while themselves in shade, were close enough to brighter light to puck up some directional highlights.
The colors actually were pretty much this intense. The plant has very reddish (or maroon in some light) leaves, and the shadows shifted the balance toward blue. Something that only occurred to me much later — the soft, rounded shapes of the background level almost suggest the very blurry bokeh shapes in the even further distance.

O outono tá chegando lá no Brasil... resolvi postar uma foto de outono de cá! As cores outonais são lindas aqui... aliás, não aumentei a saturação dos vermelhos, a foto é assim mesmo!
Bom final de semana a todos :)

This beautiful red butterfly (I'm not sure what kind it is) is at the butterfly exhibit at the Smithsonian Natural History Museum in Washington, DC.
Late May and my first trip out of the year to photograph Red Kites and Foxes, Hopefully.
The Red Kites were getting bolder and spending more time swooping down low.
Red Kites have a rusty reddish-brown body with a deeply forked tail. Their head is pale grey and patterned with dark streaks, and they have a yellow beak with a dark hook and pale, striking eyes.
The Red Kite is a scavenger and eats mostly carrion, road kill and worms. If necessary, it will sometimes catch small, live prey such as voles, mice and birds.
