The red avadavat (Amandava amandava), red munia or strawberry finch, is a sparrow-sized bird of the family Estrildidae. It is found in the open fields and grasslands of tropical Asia and is popular as a cage bird due to the colourful plumage of the males in their breeding season. It breeds in the Indian Subcontinent in the monsoon season. The species name of amandava and the common name of avadavat are derived from the city of Ahmedabad in Gujarat, India, from where these birds were exported into the pet trade in former times.
Ever played Red Alert, just need a few TU-95's over head and we've got it! an old shot taken back in 2008.
And I love the thought of coming home to you
Even if I know we can't make it
I love the thought of giving hope to you
Just a little ray of light shining through
Love can bend and breathe alone
Until the end it finds you a home
Don't care what the people may say
It's always friends that feel so good
Let's make amends like all good men should
Pleasure at the fairground on the way
And I love the thought of coming home to you
Even if I know we can't make it
I love the thought of giving hope to you
Just a little ray of light shining through

This is what I could managed through the balcony with my just arrived 180 mm macro lens today as it was raining all day.
This one is made just before 6 in the morning.
You have a good chance to meet one when the grassfields are freshly cut.
They have a chance to find some "leftovers" between the grass.
Made out of the car of my mate, handheld.
From my sister's Albuquerque garden; my favorite image from dozens I've taken of the flowers on this single red climbing rose over many years.
Hope everyone has a great weekend. Thanks, as always, for stopping by and for all of your kind comments -- I appreciate them all.

An AI image about a historical group of warriors ☺☺!
They were medieval warriors from Wales, who were dressed in red :-)
According to the stories, they had a shoe on one foot and a bare foot for better balance on slopes and in rough terrain :-)
A wonderful sight greeted us as we trudged up some slopes covered in snow in the Findhorn Valley: a large herd of between 40-50 red deer, alert to our every move. They gradually disappeared over the top of the ridge, led by one of the stags.
A double rainbow as Storm Doris batters the west coast of Ireland. This is taken at Kilkee this morning. The only ones enjoying the craic were the seagulls!! #stormdoris #ireland #kilkee #waves #storms
Je ne sais pas pourquoi on l'appelle la mer Rouge (vous pouvez aller voir sur Wikipedia), mais les Bahamas n’ont qu’à bien se tenir pour les tons de bleu ! 💙
I don’t know why the Red Sea is called red when it’s so blue! Perhaps that's something to Google this weekend😉💙

Great to get back up the Glen today, even tho Fife Council tried their hardest to kill every motorist who drove on the A92 this morning, -2 on wet roads overnight & not a gritter to be seen, what do we pay our Council Tax/Income Tax/VAT/Road Tax for? obviously not for grit, however it was great to see the sun today & the Moorland Birds.
A walk around my wetland recently showed a group of small Red-Browed Finches hopping around for seeds. I only had my 18-150mm lens on so this image has been cropped. It was lovely to see such a beautiful wee bird. Happy Wind Wednesday.

The red crossbill or common crossbill (Loxia curvirostra) is a small passerine bird in the finch family Fringillidae. Crossbills have distinctive mandibles, crossed at the tips, which enable them to extract seeds from conifer cones and other fruits.
Adults are often brightly coloured, with red or orange males and green or yellow females, but there is wide variation in beak size and shape, and call types, leading to different classifications of variants, some of which have been named as subspecies. The species is known as "red crossbill" in North America and "common crossbill" in Europe.
