Here is another Chinle outcrop I found on Oct 1 near Arizona County Road 7230. It required some bumpy driving and about 1/2 mile walking to reach. It turned out to be beautiful with mixed earth tones including pink, salmon, purple and deep red, with some white highlights. My video captured some cloud shadows passing over the site.

The rim of the formation makes it look like it is a viscous blob moving outward, but I think the border is just a stream channel along the edge below small cliffs.

Notice the difference from the previous photo, which was taken 48 miles to the north. Each Chinle outcrop has its own character, with its own palette of colors and textures. The same site can even change dramatically depending on the light. Look at some of the variety by clicking on the chinleformation tag.

A Male Red-Breasted Sapsucker captured in the Cascade Mountains of British Columbia, Canada

A red deer making ghosts with its breath against a red sky. Only winter light can be this brilliant.

Wishing everyone a sparkling day !!!

Thanks for the awards, comments and faves.

I’ve been spending time back up in my usual spot in Cumbria with these guys and it’ll be a project over winter. It’s been great so far. Having a location you can revisit time and time again to try new things is really worthwhile, especially when trying some new techniques...

Lots of Foxes around at the moment.

I've just had a few days away in the hills of west Wales and was treated some great views of the local kites flying by, searching the fields that were being cut for silage.

A Red Avadavat (Amandava amandava) on the outskirts of Kathmandu, Nepal. Avadavats are lowland birds, and a while a few birds have had a population in the Kathmandu Valley, they have not been seen here in many years due to habitat destruction. Yesterday, I was lucky enough to find six of them in a stretch of tall grass near my house. I used this angle to show how the avadavats in the valley are being threatened by the ever growing urbanization. #notgoneyet

The beautiful colours of autumn. It was not just the Maple trees that were ablaze with the colours we all search for in autumn. An ornamental Pear Tree perhaps! Red light and shade indeed. At Mount Beauty.

This is a new species for my prairie wildlife species collection, the 121st bird species I've photographed in my local city park. Red-breasted nuthatches are one of several birds of the northern forest that are classified as "irruptive", meaning they move into Kansas in large numbers in some years but are virtually absent in others.

The almost Martian landscape of the Red Rock Canyon near Las Vegas edited with red hues. This panorama was taken at the half way point of the drive that circles the gorgeous canyon.

And now a bunch of red tulips, which are my favourites though for choice I'd have them a shade deeper than these. As Valentine's Day approaches, the red ones vanish, held back so they can be put into extra-large bouquets...
