A Red Avadavat (Amandava amandava) on the outskirts of Kathmandu, Nepal. Avadavats are lowland birds, and a while a few birds have had a population in the Kathmandu Valley, they have not been seen here in many years due to habitat destruction. Yesterday, I was lucky enough to find six of them in a stretch of tall grass near my house. I used this angle to show how the avadavats in the valley are being threatened by the ever growing urbanization. #notgoneyet

The beautiful colours of autumn. It was not just the Maple trees that were ablaze with the colours we all search for in autumn. An ornamental Pear Tree perhaps! Red light and shade indeed. At Mount Beauty.

This is the closest a male R-lP ventured towards the pop-up hide I was concealed in. Even though it chose to stand in shadow, I was still able to capture the beauty and detail of his plumage. I'd never appreciated just how fantastic the jumble of black triangles are below the black neck band. If you view the image as large as you can, you will see what I mean!

Red deer have a large head with wide spaced brown eyes. The stags’ antlers are the species most distinguishing feature. They are highly branched and the branches increase with age with multiple points on each antler. The angle of the forward point from the main antler beam is about 90° (unlike the Sika). Antlers are cast during March/April and begin to regrow to be fully formed and clear of velvet in August/September.

This is a new species for my prairie wildlife species collection, the 121st bird species I've photographed in my local city park. Red-breasted nuthatches are one of several birds of the northern forest that are classified as "irruptive", meaning they move into Kansas in large numbers in some years but are virtually absent in others.
The almost Martian landscape of the Red Rock Canyon near Las Vegas edited with red hues. This panorama was taken at the half way point of the drive that circles the gorgeous canyon.
It's that time of the year when i get a chance to try and photograph Red Foxes.
