On the southern approaches to Crewe station in Cheshire, a Direct Rail Services Class 66 on a northbound intermodal freight is overtaken by a Virgin Trains Class 390 Pendolino on the adjacent fast line working a service to the north of England. With the frequency of freight on this route, especially south of Crewe, scenes like this are commonplace, with the 75mph Class 66's, Class 86's, Class 90's and Class 92's having little hope to match the speed of the 125mph Class 390's and Class 221's.

Almost an unofficial "Last Hurrah" for these magnificent Australian Bulldogs, they put on a great show, as they were chased and photographed by enthusiasts from three states and even a lucky photographer from the USA.

Locomotive #7 departing Corris Station with 14:00 train to Maespoeth Junction.

At present the locomotive propels the train to Maespoeth. However, work is now underway to provide a run-round loop at Corris which will obviate the need for propelling the train.

RhB freight Ge6/6 loco no.703 waits to depart from Tiefencastel on the morning of the 12/10/14 with the 09:58 service from Chur to St.Moritz

It has been quite a few years since 4306 has ventured from the Great Train Hall at NSW Rail Museum. It did so this past weekend and is seen here after a good weekend of thrilling enthusiasts.

"Diesel-Electric Locomotive 4306 has heritage significance as it illustrates the tentative steps taken by the NSWGR to develop a standard diesel-electric locomotive for mainline service in the mid-1950s, and with the local construction of modern diesel traction for the domestic market. Locally built by Goninan and Company from imported components, 4306 has technical significance, and embodies the features of the subsequent 44 class which became the standard (6 traction motors, 4 cycle engine and a full-width cab behind a streamlined nose). The class is significant as it improved dramatically the conditions under which operations staff on the Railways worked. The locomotive is historically significant both as the last of the class to enter service, and as the last to be withdrawn. It is aesthetically significant as its streamlined shape demonstrates the modernism of the American outline of diesel locomotive consistent with the new generation of diesel-electric power, and has technical significance with Locomotive 4306 being the last new locomotive in the world to be placed in service with the ALCo 244 Series engine. Locomotive 4306 is considered rare as the only surviving member of its class.

A brand new spot for lineside photography at the time of taking this image. Here we see OBB locomotive 1144 xxx working the 08:21 from Innsbruck to Graz on the morning of the 22/2/25. The train was captured passing through Haus im Ennstal.

This was yet another area of Austria which was suffering from a lack of snow or rainfall during the 2024-2025 winter season - you can see from this shot how brown the land is which was being starved of precipitation and water. Sadly another example of how climate change is impacting on the natural environment.

A small booklet entitled "Petunjuk Perjalanan Kereta Api ", or Train Travel Guide, and issued by the relatively newly named Perusahaan Jawatan Kereta Api of Indonesia - known as PJKA, the Railway Service Corporation. It includes a map of the majority of the system as well as timetables for various routes along with adverts for some of the long distance trains that were 'sponsored' by advertisers.

The cover shows a diesel locomotive hauling a 'named' train, the Parahiyangan', that ran between Jakarta and Bandung. The timetable was issued in January/February 1973.

Different generations of Victorian rail travel are seen here at Seymour, north of Melbourne, as a 2-car Sprinter set departs southbound, watched closely by three R class express locomotives, the last class of steam engines to be built for the Victorian Railways.

Berlin Central Station is located close to the government district in the heart of Berlin. The Central Station is also a regional train station and has a direct link to Berlin's S-Bahn network. From there it takes about 10 minutes to get to Alexanderplatz or Station Zoologischer Garten by S-Bahn.

On Thursday May 30, 2019, the Australian travel company Cruise Express began a six day rail tour through southern NSW and Victoria with a mix of heritage steam and diesel locomotives from each state. The tour was titled the "Great Southern Loop". Streamlined EMD 42103 hauled the first leg from Sydney to Goulburn, where 5917 steamer was attached for the second leg to Junee.

These photos show the two NSW locos combining to haul the train, numbered 9S03, south on a wicked and bitterly cold day.
